There are actually bridges that go over the channels between a lot of the smaller bays so it doesn't take as long as you'd think. It takes me about 15 minutes to get to work. The drive is very scenic but the roads are real curvy so you have to pay attention so you don't drive into the lake! Last weekend I saw a group of people who had skis on and were being pulled around by large kites! Some of them even got lifted up into the air for a few moments. Really awesome to watch, but had to also keep my eyes on the road! I think a person could drive across the bigger part of the lake on the ice, but you can't drive a car thru the channels because the ice stays thin there from the current. Snowmobiles will actually skim across open water thru the channels to get to the next bay. Most of them make it, some of them don't. Most of those who go down, survive, some of them don't...
