Pics of what I did today--and more

Postby Nasoosie » Thu Aug 27, 2009 3:16 pm

Here are some pics of what I accomplished today and the day before windy yesterday. I left out the good half hour I spent today getting orange paint out of my hair! In order to paint the orange slats on the balcony, I had to stick my head between them and reach at a horrible angle. I had solid orange hair at one point! ACK!!

My scaffolding with no railings makes me too dizzy to use for very long, what with that labyrinthitis I still have and can manage usually ok on wide, solid ground. My stepladder gets me sort of up there, with something to hold onto, but I still need to do most of the painting from the balcony deck with head between slats.

Tomorrow, if weather is still good, I will tackle the brown parts of the entire deck and balcony. I have no clue how I will ever paint that scalloped peak of the roof which desperately needs scraping and orange paint. I can reach just a smidgeon of it from the balcony, but it is too far far forward for me to get to via a ladder on balcony deck. I suppose I can get a huge, tall ladder and go up from the front deck. As soon as I upload these pics, I am headed to a much-needed hot bath!

A few of my painting supplies.

Orange diagonals on front deck I painted first. Snow fence gets in the way, but my lights are interwoven in that so I don't want to take it down. I will keep it up on top rail for winter so I can shovel snow off under the rails.

Image
New orange screen door, one coat. Rest of bare wood will be brown.

Icky balcony slats needing paint.

Painted balcony slats and front deck diagonals.

Inside of south balcony slats done.

Image
Icky north balcony slats and deck still awaiting paint.

Image
Wild asters between my lawn and the woods. With no mowing, that's what my lawn would look like by this time of year!

Image
Another view of wildflowers at lawn's edge.

Image
British Soldiers lichen.

Image
Buggy yellow wildflowers.

Image
Telescopic view of distant mountains from north balcony.

And that was my day!!!! Off to the tub I go!

Good job! You got way more energy then me. What about renting a cherry picker for top part. Lot safer then a ladder.
Love the pictures of the flowers. and the view. Many thanks for sharing.

I'd be tempted to stand on the railing to paint the scallops, I'm kind of fearless
that way, looks easy from here  but don't look down

Right, Mitch put the Mountain Home on your map....with a view like this no one will care what the food specialty is....but I think if I have read carefully it is a liquid beverage......

Ava, if you notice the satellite dish screwed to that railing is ratcheted down to the floor board of the balcony! The railing is a bit tippy, to say the least, and the TV reception was being lost when the dish blew in the wind! And, for me with this inner ear problem, even standing on flat gound can be a challenge some days!

The cherry picker is a real possibility----my son suggested that, actually, and, if he were here to pick up and use it, it would be a done deal! I am considering hiring him for a weekend, buying his plane ticket from Orlando and paying him while he is here. I could do the entire house up high with that baby!

I would LOVE to have you all come for a visit! I wonder if I could handle TWO yearly GTGs!! Or combine the ORS one with one for this group. Now that's food for thought! When I am retired, what else will I have to do??

I promise to keep the Recipe under lock and key while any 'risky' activities are being performed! (Like campfire dancing!! :) )

Speaking of Campfire Dancing, how are the ribs doing?

And what is 'The Recipe'???

Ribs are way so much better, Mitch, and only hurt when twisting now---such as when reaching through those da&% orange slats I painted yesterday! Lying down doesn't hurt any more, so sleeping is back to a normal position in a bed. All in all, I would say I am healed just fine! Thanks for asking.

As for Recipe, it's like that stuff the old ladies made in some TV program I used to watch back in the days of black and white TV----can't think of the name of it----and it can be quite potent, tastes so good that it's easy to OD on it! (Witness my performance on the 4th of July, and I should have known better!) I have sort of lost my taste for it since the 4th, although I am slowly finishing up the batch I made for the ORS GTG----very slowly!
