Saturday... but if you're retired does it matter?

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Saturday... but if you're retired does it matter?

Postby BirdbyBird » Sat Jul 18, 2009 5:56 am

I started the coffee and put the diet coke on chill. I am leaving to make a run to the airport to pick up my step sister from NYC. It was time for her to fly in. Her 87 yr old mother was transferred into ICU yesterday and I was there when the docs tried to explain to her that kidney dialyses was not just just a sometime thing but three times a week for the rest of her life..... She had originally tried to tell the doc that she didn't think she wanted it. She still "can't believe this is happening to her." probably b/c she thinks any of this stuff just happens to "weak old people" I have some good stories for a future campfire, for sure! The stress of the kidneys, C-diff, and not eating right seems to be effecting the heart and blood pressure. Don't know what will happen but I called her daughter and said I thought it was better to come and be wrong than not come and be wrong..... Oh, and we both expect to be yelled at b/c she doesn't want any "help" in her business! It will be fun and if I have any energy left, the high school class right behind mine is having their reunion dinner tonight. Since my class never got around to planning our own we were all invited to the class of '69's. I say, it all sounds like fun. Well the cat is now trying to walk across the key board and we all know what comes next...the accidental, "I didn't mean to erase that e-mail" step. I am off and ready to hit the Sat. Cincinnati traffic. It dawned on me that this is the first time in a long time I have picked up someone that doesn't have a cell phone....as in I wait in the cell phone lot and have them call me when they get out front and I drive by. Think I may have to actually park!

Enjoy the day. I know that I will. I think of reunions as opportunities to meet a bunch of new people b/c I know that I'm not the same person I was 40+ years ago and I hope to heaven some of then have grown and changed too!

It's a beautiful cool morning with NO humidity here how wonderful to breathe. Tina hope the airport experience goes ok, traffic around those places can be madding! I went to a class reunion last weekend and had a good time. Only thing, what do you say to people you haven't seen in 40+ years. I found most to be like total strangers with vague memories of long ago. The funny thing was, most had a different version of those memories! Still I'm glad I went and did connect with a few what I feel like are 'new' friends.

GOOD SATURDAY MORNING ALL!

It sounds as if Tina has a busy day in front of her today!

It's 60 degrees out there, dark, grey, dreary, and was raining all night long once again. So far, no rain coming down this morning, but the air is wet enough to be rain in itself!

My sofa-bed out here in the trailer, that I made into a recliner of sorts for me yesterday, with pillows galore, worked fine for me to sleep last night. YAY! I can stay back out here now and avoid the house, as that's where I'll be stuck all winter long. Today I will hook up some water for in here, as it appears that this is where I will be camping for a while longer until my ribs get better.

Let's see---what can I find to do today without wrecking my ribs-----Molly and I will walk to the pond again, as long as it's not totally pouring. She hates to get wet. My rain suit, a Frog Togs suit, will keep me dry in any downpouring.

I need to call my friend who works on computers to see if I can drop off my HP that won't boot up. I set up my old HP again yesterday, and it's working just fine without messing up my network or Wifi. But it sure is slow compared to the speed of my broken one. Now that I've got the broken one unhooked, I can take it for an estimate on how much it would cost me to fix it. Here comes the torrential rain again! Will have to check my rain gauge to see how much fell overnight when I go inside to check on Twitch.

My young wild bunny, whom I have named Spot for the white spot right between his/her eyes, is outside the trailer door munching on clover----driving Molly bonkers in the window by my bed!

Guess I'll finish this coffee, make the call about the computer, and go shopping in Saranac Lake for a few things I need, like some new heavy-duty bungee cords, propane long-handled lighters for my stove, and other odds and ends. Oh yes---cat food and litter!

And then perhaps I'll take the time to figure out how to change my VHS tapes into CDs or DVDs....or, better yet, figure out how to change them into MP3 digitals. I have a combination VHS player to DVD burner all set up, so if I burn what's on the tapes to DVDs, as they are now, then, later, when I play them in a computer, maybe I can edit the assinine parts out, add titles and dates, music, narration, and perhaps make them into MP3 files on thumbdrives or digital storage cards? I know the technology is out there to do that, it's just that, until now, I haven't had the time to even think about sitting still long enough to attempt to do it! I don't think I have the patience enough to do it even now, but we shall see. Anybody know which MP3 players have removable storage cards that don't cost an arm and a leg? And which cards might be playable far enough into the future for my great grandkids to be able to still see their relatives? I'm open to suggestions and all the help I can get.

And then I need to tackle my record collection, as well. I do have a 3-speed turntable which hooks to a device that changes the music into digital format, puts it on my computer, which I can then burn to CDs, or should I hold out and change those into MP3 format, as well? CDs are beginning to go the way of vinyl at this point in time. I know that my newest computer, the one that won't boot up, can quickly make MP3 music files. What should I store those on? I have some original Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, and famous old band records on 78s, as my father was a radio announcer in that era....he got many original cuts directly from the makers.

Sigh----rain and infirmity! What a combo! I hope you all have a great day doing something fun, IF you are lucky enough to be able to get outside and move around. And, if not, then let me know what you find to do to stay busy! With another wave of torrential rain, I go to read other posts!

Good morning,....

like the headline says... Saturday..but if your retired does it matter? Well, I am no longer retired thanks to an unexpected divorce and having to go back to work,.... but.... it's SUMMER and I work at a school.... so it really doesn't matter to me either!

Lots to do today,... laundry, dump run, pack the last of the groceries and the clothes into the new camper,... and leave in the a.m. to arrive at the St.Lawerence River .. Coles Creek Campground by lunchtime. Love that river,.... and even more I love to watch the freighters... lakers and salties go by right in front of my campsite.

so I'll grab a mug of coffee and get busy!

I hope you are all having a wonderful day,....

Soos, I know just enough to be dangerous! MP3s are audio. MPEG-4 and MPEG-2 are video/audio. Once your turn your VHS into digital format, you can copy them onto most any media. The problem would be having a player that plays MPEGs on your chosen media. Since I retired, the 'play' funds are not near as plentiful to buy a new toy as soon as it comes out! But I'd bet dollars to donuts there's something out there that plays videos off say, SD storage cards.

Let me go look around and see what I can find.

good morning ladies
routine stuff today, the laundry thing, and I dumped the tank and cleaned stuff out.
Cleaned the yard of the tumbleweeds that blew over the fence during the winds last
night. Tumbleweeds hurt when you pick them up so I have a long board with some
nails in the end of it and I use that although this morning I got poked in the little
finger and it is so sore!!!, like when you get a prick for a blood test, ouch!! Such
a tiny thing to cause so much pain
Also cleaned the intake for the a/c, it really struggles in this heat and the worst
part of the day is when the sun starts to set, it just can't keep up. I'm holding my
breath that my a/c makes it through the season so I can budget the money for
a recharge before next season.
One more week to work then we're off till the 5th of August. I'm probably the odd
ball that can hardly wait til school starts.
Off to get the laundry together, have a great day and be safe.

Thanks, Mitch----I need to explore the whole digital media thing before I begin to copy stuff to some format or another. It looks very complicated, and, as you mentioned, very expensive to watch at this point.
