Wednesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Good Morning All, another pretty winter day and snow is on the way this evening. Tina, I took a ride yesterday too and it was wonderful. I use a copycat Wendy’s chili recipe because it’s my favorite. I would think Tina turned on the heat, turned the radio up and had a frosty. Beth, glad you have a vaccine appointment. Our county is geared up and ready but waiting for vaccine. Might take another ride today since we will have messy roads for the next couple of days. Be safe

Ah yes. Winter.

Looking to be mid-70's here today. Rain in the forecast, but who knows? So far this year there have been lots of "forecasts", but very little rain. :(

Next-door neighbor has jumped on the downed-fence project, looks like he is doing an excellent job. Last evening there was nothing out there (he had previously dismantled the downed fence) this morning the framing of the fence is up, posts in the ground, and cross-members nailed top and bottom! WooHoo!

A truly BEAUTIFUL sight!! Best part of all, I haven't had to do any of the labor, although I am waiting for him to tell me my portion of the cost, including his labor (which I am more than happy to pay).

He started work at about dusk yesterday, I don't know how late he worked (I could see lights out there) and this morning when I looked out the framing was UP! Woo-hoo! :D

Speaking of "up". . . I have lettuce up in my plastic tubs!! I had also re-planted lettuce, carrots, cabbage and broccoli in my cold frame at the same time as I planted in the tubs (seed was planted in the cold frame for the third time). . . the cold-frame plants came up in lovely rows. . . the plants in the cold frame are now completely gone (again). :x

However, the plants in the plastic tubs appear to be flourishing! Another week or so and I should be able to pick the random lettuce leaf.

YUM!!

Still haven't posted photos of my "plastic tub gardening" project. . . will try to get this done later today. Have four more (a bit larger) plastic tubs, may drill holes in the bottoms of one or two of these as well (I also already have potting soil for these tubs, but am short on the scoria - lava rock - to put in the bottom of the tubs for drainage).

The seed I ordered for carrots are for carrots that only grow about four inches long (instead of the usual 7 or 8 inch varieties, so may try carrots in one of these tubs as well.

Tina, so GLAD to see you posting, and to read of your adventure to the fast-food place. You GO girl!!

Thanks!

It's already 70 this morning. There was fog earlier and now it's misting. Everything outside is wet. I could skate on the carport. I had rolled up the rubber runners for the hurricanes and need to put them back down before someone falls.

They still can't decide how cold it's going to be. There is some talk of it being in the teens next Monday or Tuesday. I have never really winterized my camper but I might have to this time.

Anne, good neighbors are a blessing. Glad you are getting a fence back. I have 5 or 6 big plastic containers that cow feed comes in. Harold tried to grow tomatoes a few times but I'm not sure we ever got a tomato. The fire ants are so bad here that it's hard to keep them out of the pots. I need to look for a couple of satsuma trees after the danger of a freeze if over. You can bet that if I plant a tree the temperature will go to 15 degrees.

I wish Louisiana would get with the vaccinations. A hospital about 60 miles from here said they are getting 300 doses. You can about imagine how long that is going to last.

I got an announcement from New Mexico health department this morning telling me I could make a reservation because vaccine was now available. Yippee! Except by the time I went online and entered my codes, it said all appointments were filled, and they would get back to me in the future. Dang!

Also, making reservations for next winter in Florida has been even more of a challenge than in the past. (Sites in Florida state parks are available 11 months in advance and fill up within seconds or minutes.) This morning was the third morning in a row I got up at 5:45 am to try to get a site at Jonathan Dickinson State Park near Jupiter, FL, near the Atlantic Coast. It is a very large campground, but has full hookup for $26 per night--paved spaces spread well apart, etc. Anyway, the first night, the Reserve America site for that park crashed two minutes before the opening time, yesterday I missed getting a spot, and this morning it crashed again so that even though I was logged in, I kept having to start all over again. But I was able to finally log in and view the site 10 minutes later, probably when others have given up. However, knowing that spots are only held for 15 minutes and that sometimes people get spouses and kids to snag more than one site, I waited for another five minutes, continually clicking the button to find sites and reloading my page. (There were only four to begin with.)

Finally, 16 minutes after 6 am Mountain time, three of the four original sites appeared as being available. That means someone had snagged all four spots and were now releasing three of them after completing registration for one site!!! So, I jumped and was able to get a spot. Could hardly believe it, but registered and paid FAST for a full 14 days in January!

So, my big news is that I don't have to get up before dawn again for a couple of weeks! It has been worth it because I can guarantee you that next winter, it will be almost impossible to get more than a day or two of cancellations at any state park in Florida!! The only other options will be Forest Service sites, which are not as common in Florida as in the west, or commercial campgrounds with amenities, but not near the ocean or Gulf, and costing a lot more. So, I now have November in the Panhandle, and December in Myakka near Sarasota and Gamble Rogers on the Atlantic, and now half of January in Jonathan Dickinson! Will head south after that to some favorite COE parks that do not open for a few months.

Nice day down here in southern Oregon today. I am down here as I have eye doc appts Thurs and Fri morning. Then after Fri appt will head back home. Spent the day shopping with my friend down here. Now back in the hotel with my feet up, they are tired. Dog is crapped out too. She has had dinner and now is down for the count for a couple of hours until potty time then bed.

Have an 8:15 eye appt tomorrow, then will meet my friend at 11 as we are going to the mall so I can look for some spring/summer clothes. I had some winter clothes in my storage unit that didnt burn so that was good but no summer clothes. Wont be there too long. After that we will grab some lunch then I will head over to my storage unit to load some more stuff to take back home. Just a quick trip but getting alot done.

Good news on the fence Anne. And no labor for you involved LOL Hope it doesnt hurt your pocketbook too badly. Is insurance involved?? that would help.

I had a grocery pickup today. Otherwise didn't get much accomplished. Judy I'm glad you didn't give up and got those reservations today. Anne, like Karen I'm wondering if you've gotten insurance involved. But I'm mainly thrilled that your neighbor is getting the job done!

Early inJanuary I was surprised to see one of the customs stops I've never seen closed, closed. It still is. Maybe they've decided it isn't worth it.

Ty now recognizes the sound of the UPS, FedEx and USPS trucks and if any of them slow down or stop on our end of the block he starts barking. So I shush him, then some of the times I get a knock and he goes berserk, like I told you so. Lol

Well thanks for all the well wishes yesterday. Up at 4am and out the door at 5am, got home at 5 pm. It was a long day, but all went well with Bob’s operation. We had a light supper at home and went to bed early. We both had a good day today.

Yay for Tina! I just know how wonderful that drive to Wendy’s must have been for you. Bob and I often stop at Wendy’s for a Frosty when we are out.

Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and up to 79°. Should be a great spring-like day to work in the yard. I’m looking forward to seeing your container garden pictures, Anne.

got up that is an accomplishment isn't it???
sat out for a bit thinking of what I wanted to do today thought don't know about the water it's pretty windy... again because they are jugs and blow away easy ...so thought that I'd go out and bring in the jugs fill enough for while I am gone and leave the jugs in the trailer no place for them and not taking them to Vegas... happened to check the levels and the fresh water is down to the red... still have enough but questioned if I should fill a few jugs... went outside and the wind had died down wasn't bad so went and got water... that way the plants can be water speaking of plants Anne do you have a county extension office there? if you do give them a call they maybe able to till you what is eating your plants and give you ideas of what to use to take care of the culprit.
As I was reading Tuesdays postings thought of something that I wanted to comment on but it's gone happens more than you all know
so much that I didn't get done today to be able to leave early well to me early that I am not sure I will leave on time... hate getting into Vegas with rush hour traffic and getting into the dark if I didn't think Friday would be worse I'd be tempted to wait a day to go...
not many vendors left they were mostly in the front so didn't realize that lots had left or never came not sure which... did get a jar of huckleberry jam and visited the Roots tent got some dates to take with me and got another jar of jam strawberry/kiwi the guy indicated that he really liked it... the tent is mainly dried fruits/ veggies, pasta, jars of lots of jams ect... don't know that they are Mennonite or not but make you think that they are...
so if I am going to do my last row for the day need to do that and make a decision as to when to go
you all have a good day

Beth and Karen: Yes, insurance will pay part of it, although I have a hefty deductible. But I will take what I can get, every little bit helps. In my "younger years" I would have been outside slinging the hammer while my ex was inside with his feet up playing on the computer.

A real relief not to be involved with the labor part - I won't say that I have "hung up my hammer", but I save that tool for fun stuff these days.

Having the fence down has been a bummer for my Joe as well - no place to play "kong toss".

Martha, you are certainly correct about good neighbors being a blessing. I have got on with these neighbors really well since they moved in a couple of years ago, and this fence adventure really takes the cake. They are good people and I am blessed to have them next door.

Thanks! :D

Last night I rechecked my work schedule for today and it said 10-3 so I was happy that it would be a shorter day (we are open 9-5 during the week). But on the way to work, I got a funny feeling that something was wrong and I checked my text messages while waiting at a red light. My manager had sent me a text asking where I was and if I was OK since I was supposed to be there at 9am. I texted back that I was on my way. When I got there, I checked my texts for this week's schedule and it did say 10-3 for today. Apparently, she changed the schedule but for some reason I didn't get the new schedule sent to me. Luckily, there were 3 of us scheduled for today so I didn't leave anyone alone for opening. I was only half an hour late. We stayed busy the first half of the day but it died right around 1pm. She let me leave early at 2.

Stopped at Michael's Crafts for a few more flowers for my pots before heading home.

Not sure if I mentioned it before but I signed up for an on-line course on writing an autobiography, a couple weeks ago. It started today. I figure I need a little prompting and direction for getting back to writing mine. I did the first lesson tonight. I have one small homework project to do. The next lesson is Friday. Will just be twice a week on Weds, and Fri. for 6 weeks. It was free thru the local community ed. I figure I can write some of it at work during quiet times, instead of playing games on my phone when it is slow. I already have an outline done so I just need to fill in details and then this class will help me to get it more organized and rewrite it in a good story form.

Tomorrow I work at the other shop I worked at last Thursday. No one else from my shop likes working there but I don't mind it too much.

Off to bed...good night :D
