ANTS!

The teeny, tiny ones! But I have some ant traps and have set them up in my kitchen area. I am moving to a new campground about 30 miles away tomorrow, so I will set up the outdoor kind when I get there and re-set new ant traps.

Feeling really creepy right now, as if they are crawling on my toes. Yuck.

Glad I was prepared and bought the ant traps a long time ago.

x3 on Terro. I always put down ant bait around tires, etc. They say baby powder works.

Also, tell the office they need to spray around your rig. Their responsibility.

Find out where they are coming in. Once they climbed my electric cord. Learned in Texas that I shouldn't let it touch the ground. Haven't worried about that some places, have been very careful others. Then put whatever you want to use to deter ants at the entrance to the rig. Another time they came in through a roof vent. They came from a tree branch.

I'm very careful about any chemical use. I know what they do to me, so hate putting things on the ground if I can avoid it. Especially if I think it might be toxic to any animals and wildlife.

Good points. I have left that campground and will be setting up in new one soon. Will put baits around wheels and cords--not trying to let them touch. Will have full hookups but might not attach sewer hose right away.

They seem to be gone from kitchen but i saw a couple in bathroom.

SO gkad i had traps!!!! Will try baby powder also.

There was a terrible ant problem at the state park we were at a couple of years ago in Arkansas. Someone complained to the rangers and they said they weren't allowed to put out any poison. That didn't stop us. I think we cleaned out the ant poison in town. I had some Terro bait trays. If you can stand to leave one overnight and let the ants swarm it they will be gone. Since then I carry some of the powder too.

We've used Ajax or Comet with pretty good success - of course it has to be replaced if it rains. Just sprinkle a trail of it all around the RV especially by the tires and hoses. Works pretty good. Unless the ant hill is under the RV on the inside of the comet/ajax.

I've put out two Terro baits inside. I have to move my campsite tomorrow, so I will not put out baits outside until then. In the meantime, I made sure my water hose and electrical cord are not touching the ground.

There seem to be fewer of them on the kitchen counter, but I am not leaving any food on it to attract them anyway.

I am on pea gravel, so hopefully that will help. I had a problem in a national park, Martha, and the campground people (not rangers) said the same thing, but they said they would go over and look at it. When I got done with my laundry and went back to my site the ants were gone, so I suspect they sprayed anyway.

All you new RVers! Make sure you buy some Terro and borax and other things just in case you need it. I bought mine 5 months ago, and now I really needed it. Glad I stocked up.

Judy, we have fire ants here at this campground. Barb brought me a can of grits and I have put that on the ant mounds. Paul has them really bad. He is going to spray around his rig. I will be getting some borax and terro traps too.

Dawn, I don't know if the Terro traps work as well for the fire ants as they do for the tiny black ants. Fire ants had gotten into my Ficus tree when I had it outside for the summer. I tried one of the traps and that didn't get rid of them. I finally had to get a poison that I could put on my tree and not kill it. What ever it was worked. Tomorrow I'll see if I can find what I used. We have fire ants in our yard and usually use the white powder poison or the bait type poison. I don't think anything kills them, it just makes them move.

I've noticed a few little ants in Magic past couple of days. Cannot figure out where they are getting in.

Dawn - Liz says those horrible bites I got at Hillsborough that made the big blisters were likely fire ants. Sores have still not healed. Be very careful of them.

I have terrible reactions to fire ant bites. They don't bother DH, but I get big red bumps that itch and have a white head to them. Then they get angry red and hive like, Itch like crazy and stay around for a couple weeks . More often than not, they get infected.

My younger son was allergic to fire ants as a kid. We had to watch him anytime he was outside and we went through the shots. He was also allergic to other things that stung. We had to make many trips to the emergency room. He hasn't said what kind of reaction he has as an adult if any. I tried to get him to always carry benadryl and tell his boss about his allergy but you know how hard headed men are.

Everyone should carry benadryl because campgrounds are where the bugs hang out. lol
