Axle on my RV

Postby cpatinjones » Thu Feb 02, 2012 10:36 am

Hello Ladies,

I put my RV in the RV shop a couple of weeks ago to get some things done to it. Well, while going over what I wanted done with the rv guy, he noticed some uneven wear on my tire on the right side. I wasn't expecting any problems. :( After some investigating, he thought the axle had shifted. I didn't even know what that meant, but I did know it wasn't good. :(

He told me he would contact the axle manufacturer to see what they could do. He was told to break it down (not sure if this is the correct term to use) and inspect it. Of course, my one year warranty is no longer in effect (it is 2 yrs old as of Dec 2011). I just got his call. The alignment pin on the right rear axle was missing. Can you believe this! :o Well, since it is out of warranty, they are going to send two new axles with springs. They are calling it customer consession. I am thankful they are at least doing this. I will have to eat the labor cost. I do have an extended warranty on my RV, but not sure if they will help with this situation. I think my warranty is suppose to cover axles, suspensions, etc, The rv guy will be calling them today to discuss my situation and see if they will pay any of the expenses with the axle installation.

I keep telling myself, this will make you stronger! :D

Alice, did you put some gris gris on me?

It's a good thing it was discovered before you had major problems. I hope your extended warranty comes through to help with the rest of the costs.

Sorry to hear about your problem. Hope the extended warranty will pay some of it. My experience with them is that the first answer is always no. Read you policy and threaten them if they give you a hard time. Good thing they have all month to fix it so you won't miss the TX GTG.

So sorry to hear that this happened to you but really glad to hear that RV company is at least doing something AND extended warranty will handle the rest. And the very best news is that this didn't happen on the road and they have time to get all fixed before you start traveling. Hope to see you in March and definitely in April at the GTGs.

So happy for you. Strongly suspect that since the axle company was so quick to replace the axles free that they have had some undisclosed manufacturing problems in this area. Reason doesn't matter, only that you got it fixed free. Thank God you didn't lose a wheel on the road.

You suppose the axle mfg felt a little vulnerable that an 'alignment pin was missing' from a product. Like.....Hello...somebody have a bad day a couple years ago!!

Good on you Carolyn...just taking care of business getting the rig ready for a couple of trips. Good that your mechanic picked up on that too. You better keep him around for a while.

Expect to see you in March GF...being safer on the road now.

I am happy my rv guy noticed the tire. Yes, I will be keeping their services. It was the first time I have taken it there. It was recommended by an RV guy in Hammond ( a friend of my boss). In fact, it is the rv place that Sue got her black tank repaired. The name is Good Shepard RV Repair in Breaux Bridge, which is located off of I-10 next to the Breaux Bridge exit.

I am so happy it was discovered before major problems occured. It could have turned into a nightmare.

Hopefully, they receive the axles next week and get started on installing them. It should be ready for the TX March GTG.
