I forget what he said that piece was!

The Amish still don't have electricity, but do have cell phones - as they have to communicate. In times past, the phone companies put up pay phones that Amish families shared. Since those are gone, the elders have approved (in most Amish communities) the use of cell phones - as the phone is so necessary today for so many reasons. They still can't use them at various times, and most don't use them inside their homes. They have refrigerators that run on gas. And she has some appliances that run on solar (including her sewing machine). So, in some ways they are ahead of us on the eco friendly stuff :)

Great photos as usual, Liz. Thanks for keeping us up to date.
BTW: You didn't mention what was served for dinner. We need such info you know.

The Amish dinner?

I have to admit I forget the very first course
Broccoli salad
Two kinds of homemade bread - oh so yummy.
A sausage with a bbq sauce (her own sauce)
A chicken pot pie type chicken
Chicken fingers
mashed potatoes
corn (their own)
Shoofly pie
Peach pie
Ice cream

Did I miss anything ladies?

Today 5 of us traveled more of the Amish country - including the Bird-in-Hand farmers market and a quilt shop to wine and beer tasting, to September Farms (cheese) and on to Shady Maple for the smorgasbord (as well as some hit their grocery store and some of us hit their rv dealer).

I need to get pics off my camera (I didn't take many) and I'm sure Liz will contribute hers. Will update my blog with mine either tomorrow or after they leave. Hating seeing them leave Friday :( This week is going oh, so fast.

All the dishes were passed, then next thing you know, they get brought back to the table and passed again. And again, if anyone wants more. Needless to say, you don't (can't) leave hungry.

We had a delicious dinner last night with the Amish family. I'm so glad we attended.

Today, Steve & I stayed at the campground and used the golfcst to visit areas in the campground we hadn't seen before. This place is huge. Then we played mini-golf and used the rest of the day to relax. The rest of the ladies came back with bags from their shopping trip. Beth remembered that we liked the Amish cheese and picked that up for us. It's raining right now and we have a cold front moving in, so I'll probably be wearing jeans & a sweatshirt tomorrow.

Rebecca (Amish hostess) also served her homemade pickles, a jam and I have to mention the brown butter which was poured on the mashed potatoes. Absolutely yummy. I asked if they had a spare room I could rent so I could eat her food every day.

The Shady Maple buffet was enormous. I took tablespoons of several dishes so that I could save room for the apple dumpling and custard desserts (with fresh whipped cream). Then I just had to sample the chocolate fountain with a spear of marshmallow and banana.

The countryside is beautiful with all the farms. The produce stands are plentiful. I had to purchase food items to take with me..pepper jam, black bean salsa, cheese crackers, pretzels, fudge, cheese....I will be eating good!

Love this campground. Took an hour walk with Maggie to investigate new areas yesterday. Of course, long walks help to balance all that food I've been eating.

Looks like this GTG was quite the success. Even the weather co-operated. Beautiful countryside. Many years ago, I did the same tours. Loved it. Thanks for sharing your pics. Linda

I was first to arrive and first home (ok, the full-timers were home before they left :D ). It's great to have this beautiful campground only an hour away. Just like my visit earlier in the summer, I enjoyed the scenery, the totems, and the rental units but this time thanks to Beth and the management we were able to view the inside of the rentals and play with golf carts!

Thank you Beth and the rest of the ladies (and gent) who made this week special.

Now for some pics...

The gnome house rental unit (our golf carts were called gnome mobiles)

Steve, Irmi, and I decided to try the "world trail" exercise stations. Shhhhh....we rode to each one in the golf carts

Don't worry....Steve is not suppose to be walking a straight line

Pics of "Missy" waiting outside my RV the last two mornings. I fed her, I named her, I took her for walks, and I wanted to bring her home with me! When I was outside doing the last minute inspection before leaving, around the corner comes Missy with another campground cat and they sat down right in front of me. It was so hard to leave both of them behind but I know Beth will give me updates.
