Heat Strips for RV AC

Heat Strips for RV AC

Postby cpatinjones » Fri Aug 26, 2011 3:44 pm

Hi,

Martha mentioned having a heat strip in her AC on her RV. Is it possible to add one to an existing AC unit in your RV? It would be cheaper to heat an RV with electric heat, than using your propane heating when at a campground when your are hooked-up to electricity (included in your site fee).

I've wondered also - so searched and it looks easy on some units:

I added a heat strip to the air conditioner in my previous motorhome but I don't remember the brand of ac. The motorhome I have now came with one already installed and it has a Duo-Therm by Dometic. I looked on the internet and a couple of the sites that came up said the heat strips were for non-ducted systems. My air conditioner is ducted so guess you would have to ask at one of the RV service places. Since you have a large 5th wheel I don't know if it would heat your whole place but would probably keep the furnace from cycling on and off as much. Where we live we don't need much heat most of the time anyway.

I went to an American CLipper owners club meetup - everybody there had one of those small electric room heaters.
