Jed. Again -- Monday Night

Postby Forestgal » Fri Apr 22, 2011 12:29 pm

I'm at the emergency vet with Jed. He's going downhill neurologically. Please pray for my boy.

Thanks.

We're home. It's likely that he may have "intervertebral disc disease", but getting a definitive diagnosis would require a CT or MRI, neither of which I'm going to do right now. The neurology resident thinks that we can try to treat it medically for the next 14 days to see if it resolves itself. So he's on prednisone, tramadol, and methocarbamol if needed. And he's to have absolutely NO activity for the next 2 weeks.

Watching him hurt so much this morning, trying to get school taken care of, then seeing him go downhill before my eyes as we left the vet was overwhelming. Fortunately the specialty vet was less than 10 minutes from my regular vet & they got him in immediately. I'm just glad I wasn't all the way home, because it would have been a 30 mi./45 min. drive.

He's sleeping on his bed next to me right now. Think I'll join him & stretch out in my recliner.

Thank you all for your prayers and support. While I'm all by myself in taking care of him, it's nice to know that I've got so much support through your thoughts and prayers here. It means the world to both of us.

Thanks again ...

I googled it to see exactly what that meant, http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/cliented/ivd.aspx

Apparently it's the same or similar to what is referred to in humans as a slipped disc.

I know it's hard to see our babies hurting but I think the place you took him to is on top of things and will do what is best for Jed. I'm glad they were so close to your vet.

Hugs to you and a head pat for Jed, cuz I don't want to squeeze him and hurt him. Keep us updated.
