Storing a Smart Tote

Since we will be camping a lot at CG's that have no sewer hook-up, the DH bought a Smart Tote portable waste tote to use for the grey and occasionally the black tank. Here's my question: for those of you who use one of these, where do you store them when not using? ie during the weeks when the TT is in storage. I know that we need to rinse it out well, but won't there still be some residual smell?

I don't use one and never have, but I would think that a little holding tank chemical and water would take care of the smell. As far as storage...wherever you have room. Do you have a garage? Storage shed?

I know Linda (BikerChic) has one but I think she is on the road right now so not sure if she is keeping up on here lately. I can mention it to her and see what she says about it.

I've seen people carry theirs like this too, but if you store your rv away from home I wouldn't leave it there, too expensive and too tempting for theft.

If you have a place to keep it, I'd think leaving the top open some to air would be a good thing, AFTER a good cleaning, that is!

Thanks all. I haven't even seen this bad boy yet as DH bought while on the road for business, but it sounds as though it will be possible to clean it out enough to store it in our garage at home. I will let you know how it works out.

I, personally, wouldn't use one for both grey and black tanks. But that's just me. I have friends who boondock extensively and have 2 totes and replace the black one every year or so. It cannot be cleaned really well - at least that's what they tell me. I prefer to take my rig to the dump station or get honey wagon service if possible, over them. Again, that's just me.

In Guntersville last summer where I was without sewer, many used them for their grey tanks and used honeywagon when the black tank was full. Some used them for both, and some, like me, didn't use them at all.
