I don't have any audio books, but I'm sure there will be somebody interested, maybe even trade something else that you want/need for your books. There's just no tellin what all may get accomplished during this gtg. Including teaching some of us the card game, what was it, Hoof & Mouth, Foot & Arm, dang, I really can't remember it. :lol:

Doofus will probably agree - being she's mostly nice (sometimes) and all that...(well, she wants all of you to think so anyway)
And she's already agreed to bring me something I can't find around here and let me reimburse her.

Tina, I'm a cook who's a non-cook - and let me tell you - that's hard to explain. I only liked cooking if it was for a holiday or big to-do - but I hated potlucks. I'd never think ahead of time, then would end up rushing and tearing apart cabinets to try to throw something together.

Needless to say - I'm at a loss when we do these things. But I figure something out. And usually I try a recipe I've never made and get scared that I'll hate it - let alone everyone else :) But I'm always finding all these recipes - and it's just me - so how else to try them?

What I'm saying is - don't feel bad that you don't cook. I'm figuring at least one of the side dishes I bring will be something simple like cutting up melons - as I've been eating them like crazy this summer - so if they are still good - will hope everyone else will too.

Just bring a hearty apetitie - as there's going to be way too much food - I can tell that already - even if many don't do anything!

I seriously doubt that we will let anyone escape to their rv at night hungry!!! (probably everyone will have doggie bags for midnight snacks) :lol:

It sounds as if Tina and I could exist without ever using a stove or recipe to cook anything! My idea of cooking is to throw a frozen, prepared dinner into my microwave and set the timer! I so despise recipes, preparations, like cutting up veggies for a recipe, cleaning up, etc. etc. When my oven caught fire back in the 80s as I was preparing a huge turkey dinner for about 12 people, I never replaced or repaired the stove! The wiring caught on fire (it was/is a Jenn Aire stove) which I loved only because it had the inside electric grill I could use in the winters. I had to finish cooking the dinner at a friend's house about a mile down the road! When the kids were young and at home, and my husband was working every day, I DID cook suppers. However, when they didn't show up to eat on time (for various reasons----the kids' activities, the husband's drinking habits) I ceased that part of my 'job' as well. Now my oven is a storage pantry for whatever! My dishwasher, which developed a leak back about the same time, is also a pantry now.

In subsequent years, I have shoveled out my outside grill on my front deck to grill any meats in the winter. That grill also has a huge burner to cook a pot of potatoes, or some veggies, if I so choose. At 30 to 40 below zero, however, it takes hours to cook anything!

Once in a while, I break down and create a vat of some sort of good food, like the chicken-noodle salad I made for the Ruckus, and this week I utilized all my leftover corn to make a vat of corn chowder. Then I made a cauldron of beef stew. All the while I was cutting up the veggies I was swearing this would be it for along while to come! However, I must say, that when I DO cook something, I love what I made and tend to eat it all for weeks on end, and freeze some individual servings for the future.

I do wish I were going to this GTG, but just cannot manage it this year. Too much going on and too many adjustments to make right now make it impossible. However, next year, if I find out I can exist on my new retirement income, will be another story! Tina, you and I can chat about what we will bring so we don't have to actually cook or prepare anything! I think we can even figure out how to avoid even having to use/wash dishes! I am a big fan of paper plates, hands, and already roasted chickens you can buy in super markets! Raw veggies solve a lot of prep time, also!

I've been looking over recipes I've wanted to try - and found one for a Mexican cornbread - so you'll all be guinea pigs - as that's what I'll make for the taco night.

I intend to make a fruit salad with whatever fresh fruits are available for the potluck night - and who knows, maybe something else. But that for sure.

Trying to be good and say something other than just side dishes!

Soos, you are a woman after my own heart. :) Another reason I try not to cook much is that I have had problems with portion control in the past. If it is in the frig it can end up on my plate and on my butt. So if I want to keep weight off...get extra weight off.....it helps not to cook stuff. I have been eating lots of fresh fruits and vegs this summer.... :)

Vickie, you can put me down for "probably" chicken enchiladas for the potluck. Mild, of course, for the gringo mouths! :D New Mexico style with verde sauce.

I'm not much of a cook either. Maybe if I had someone else to cook for, I would try more things. I avoid recipes that have more than 5 ingredients! I like the concept of "semi-homemade" cooking. Like to use stuff in boxes, cans, jars, etc. I reduced my mom's famous chili recipe down to 5 ingredients and it's not too bad! (She probably rolls over in her grave whenever I make it like that tho!). She was a fantastic cook!
