When I was in the first grade a little boy that rode the bus with me got off and went behind the bus instead of in front to cross the road. A car didn't stop for the bus and hit him when he ran out from behind the bus. He was badly hurt but survived. That was almost 60 years ago and it still haunts me. Probably has a lot to do with why I'm such a nervous Nellie on the road now.

I've thought about looking into the Kindle thing too. I read a lot and have a million books (my other addiction besides chocolate chip cookies!). It would be much more convenient to have a Kindle, and the "books" are cheaper too. If I ever get on the road in my own RV, I will for sure get one since I would have no room for my million books!

Well, tonight I let one of the girls at work talk me into cutting my hair off! So now it is really short!! No more bob! Does look pretty good with the new frosting I did yesterday tho.

I was a bad mom today! I got home and wasn't greeted at the door by my kitty, Zoey. I then realized I had locked her out on the porch all day! Poor kitty! Have you seen the ad for that kitty litter where the cat is crossing it's legs because it can't find it's litter box? Well, that is what she was doing!! She ran right over to her box and took a big, huge dump! I could almost hear her sigh with relief! Poor kitty! I felt so bad! She actually tore off the cat door on the outside of the door but I had it locked on the inside so she still couldn't get in. I think if she had pushed it tho, it would have fallen off since the screws were stripped. Poor kitty! Bad mom!!

It was a little quieter at work today for a change. I did a really cool asymetrical stacked bob on a gal. It was down to her shoulder on one side and up to the bottom of her ear on the other side and layered up the back. I have never done one like that before so it was a lot of fun! It turned out nice!

My dad called and said one of my brothers wants to take us all out in his boat on Sunday for Father's day and take us to Big Island for a cookout. Big Island is THE place to go on the lake. One side is the busy party side where hundreds of boats anchor near shore and party all day and night on the weekends. The other side is the quiet side that has docks and a picnic area for members of the US Power Squadron, which my brother is a board member of. I had to check my schedule at work and was scheduled to have Saturday off and work Sunday, but was able to switch with another girl so I can go on Sunday. Hopefully, it won't rain. It will be just me, my dad and my two brothers. We hardly ever get together anymore, so it will be nice to do this.

Well, gotta get to bed. I have to get up early tomorrow since I start work at 9 am! No time for cookies tonight!

Have fun Sunday with your family. I don't know what we'll do, probably a short visit with each of our Dad's. Ronnie's wanting to go camp at the Cameron Jetties next week so he can fish at their pier, we'll see, I think it's gonna be really hot, there's no shade trees there. :x

Well, I am hunkering down here. We have tornado warnings all over the state of MN and there are two just west of me moving in, so I am going to get carriers ready in case I need to head to the lower level of my apartment building. It's the first time this year that we have had any severe weather so we are overdue for this. My weather radio is going crazy with all the watches and warnings. The power was out here when I got home from work due to the strong winds but it is back on for now. The wind is picking up so I think I better get off here.

...updating... the storms have weakened around here but more are coming from the west. The town of Wadena in central Minnesota got a direct hit from a tornado about an hour ago and has major damage. Another tornado touched down in a town just 15 miles northwest of me but no word yet on damage there. Now reports of two more tornados on the ground in southern MN.
I decided to bake some cookies while watching the radar and listening to the news. Still very humid and windy out. But so far, we have not had any rain or thunder right here. Will keep you posted on the next wave of storms...

...more major destruction from a very large tornado in Keister in southern MN just a half hour ago. Got another cell moving into this area shortly and then it will be done for the night...

...We are in the middle of a very big storm! The wind is incredible! The waves on the lake are like an ocean! And I just saw a large charter boat on the bay! It looked like they were going to try to park at the public docks but the waves are too big so they turned around and headed across the bay. I can't believe they would have a charter boat on the lake tonight with all of this bad weather for the past 4 hours with lots of warnings all day about it. I sure would hate to be on that boat right now! It is still storming but the sun is coming out from the west so it is almost over for us. Down south there are still tornados all over. Two deaths so far up in Wadena. Lots of farms all over have been destroyed. Hail reports have been as big as grapefruit size! We didn't get any of that luckily! The wind is starting to die down here now. Whew! What a wild evening!

(That would be Owatonna, MN). The reports are starting to come in about all the tornadoes. The photos and video are amazing (not in a good way). They say there were over 30 tornadoes so far that they know of, all together in the state. I think 3 people died, including an elderly couple who's house was destroyed, and many injured and many more homeless. Lots of farms hit with lots of animals killed and crops destroyed. Not a good night for many. The worst of it was north and south of me. There were a couple of touchdowns west of me but no real damage done. It is unusual for us to get so many tornadoes all across the state like that. They are usually more isolated to one or two areas.

Barbie, glad you are OK after that horrible system of storms. It is scary being in the middle of a system like that and not knowing exactly which way the tornado will go. The last one here, we spent most of the evening in the walk in closet. (All 7 of us. :D ) Linda

I had my weather radio on, the TV news on, and the local radar on my laptop, so I was keeping close tabs on everything going on. I had two carriers ready by the door for the animals in case I needed to make a run downstairs. Luckily, I didn't need to.

Tonight they are showing all the destruction around the state on the news. Wadena was almost wiped off the map. It is amazing that only one person died up there. Everyone ran for their basements when the sirens sounded so that saved a lot of lives. One house they showed was lifted off its foundation, turned 90 degrees, and dropped a hundred feet away, almost completely intact. One family didn't have time to get to the basement, so they ran into the bathroom. The only thing left of the house afterward was the bathroom. The rest of the house was demolished and fell into the basement. One couple layed in their bathtub over their 5 month old son. The bathroom was the only room left intact. (So remember to go into the bathroom during a tornado!) So many farms were hit, as well, killing many animals. Very sad.

It was very busy at work today and I didn't even get time to eat all day. I put my lunch in the microwave and never got back to it. I went to the breakroom once to get a drink of water and the GM came back to "remind" me that there was a customer waiting. One gal went to Caribou to get coffee for everyone and I had time for two sips and ended up throwing the rest out when I left for the day. I bought some protein shakes tonight so I will at least have that to drink )(hopefully) during the day if I can't eat. I can't understand why they won't hardly allow anyone to eat or drink all day long. That can't be legal, never mind just plain unreasonable (and unhealthy). I don't dare say anything until after my 30 day "trial" period. I need this job until I move. I have fun when I am cutting tho. I did a mohawk today which was fun to do. My customers are all very happy with what I do for them which makes me feel good.

Gotta get ready for bed now!

so sad for the people affected by the tornadoes. It is always amazing what that force of nature can do...in dh's home town there was a corn bin in one spot tornado came through picked it up and set it down a few feet away it was usable and is still used never moved it back. It is amazing that more lives weren't taken.

and you are so right it is illegal you are suppose to by law in most states get 10 min. in the morning then in the afternoon and an amount for lunch but also understand the want to keep the job so won't question the situation.... but you should get that power break good luck!

Wow, Barbie-----it's a very good thing you love what you are doing, as the work conditions are barbaric, and, as has been said, totally illegal. A person needs some time for the bathroom, for drinks, and for lunch, at a bare minimum. The manager is running a sweatshop type of business, it seems. How she gets away with that must be related to how desperate people are for jobs at this time. Perhaps, after your 30-day trial, you can organize all the workers into a group requesting a break and lunchtime schedule, or threaten to turn her in. How do the others feel about the work schedule?

Anyway, enjoy it while you have it, and save those bucks for a leaner time!

Beauty salons just don't work like ordinary workplaces. I have been working in one for over 35 yrs and you just have to grab breaks when you get them. I have found hairdressers to be one of the most, if not the MOST independent bunch of people in the working world today. I think those 'chain' places are trying to run things differently , and i have found that they usually get new hairdressers from right out of school that don't know what to expect,, so they can bully them into working non stop. I never worked at one of those places, nor have I been a customer @ one,, but I have observed them when I was passing by and have talked to the ex workers of such places.

I guess, Barbie, that you are at their mercy for however long you need to stay,, but, I sympathize and hope that you can get out of there asap.. and get on w/ your life and it be as pleasant as possible SOONer, rather than later.

Best of luck and keep your chin up. I feel for ya, girlfriend!

Things are a lot different at work when the boss isn't around. The manager and GM weren't there today so it was a lot more relaxed there. One of the girls actually told me to take a lunch today! Each salon is run different since they are franchised. There is good and bad with each one. This is one of the few GC's that has receptionists which is great! As soon as I check out my customer, I come back to my station and it has been all cleaned up and there is a new clean cape on my chair. I also don't have to answer the phone or interrupt my haircuts to check people in. They also give the customers a free haircut after 8 paid haircuts. So they do some things that are really nice. I think the girls put up with the lack of breaks because of the good money to be made there. My feet hurt a little less once I count out my tips for the day!

Now I have two days off. Tomorrow is the boat ride with my brothers and my dad. Hopefully, the weather will be good for that. It is nice out this evening so I think I will grab a book and go read out on the porch for awhile. A great night for a campfire! Will share my cookies later on with you all! (Shhh! Don't let the ferrets find out!).
