My Life Is Taking a Turn, Part II

Well, here's the new "Fur Kid". She arrived yesterday. Her name is Maize and she is 4 years old. She's doing fine, just going through the adjustment period of new surroundings etc. Tessa, was a kennel mate with her but Sassy was living with me before she was born. But they have been together before too. So all's well. So now we shall see how the summer goes. The breeder plans to take her back around end of Sept. to breed her one more time. My cut is either a new pup or bring Maize home forever. Tessa is a champion show dog and the breeder really would like to show her some more. Now that she is going to be 7 in June, AKC rules allow spayed femailes to be shown, so she may eventually take Tessa back. That was one thing we talked about as Tessa and Sassy although mother and daughter are not a compatible pair. She and the breeder have a bond between them and Tessa loves the shows. But she had to make room for up and coming prospects, so Tessa had to go. I took her in cause she didn't want her to go to just anybody and she had mentioned two yers ago when I picked her up that she might like to show her again. So there may be some dog changing going on here later this year. Time will tell. In the meantime Maize can have fun exploring a whole new world.

At last, someone who just might have as much hair care as the pack around here! We name our fur bunnies that live in the corners and under the furniture. Occasionally they have been known to roll right across the middle of the kitchen floor! Beautiful dogs. Having just read the winners from the Veteran's class from the English Cocker National in WI, I reminded Blondie that she could let her coat grow and jump back into the ring. She declined. Said she did want the "bait" though!

Maize is beautiful, as are your other two! How interesting to have a 'dog exchange' now and then, paricularly if a couple are more campatible with others. Thanks for the pic!

Beautiful doggie. Fur bunnies are a fact of life with multiple dogs, though I haven't gotten around to naming them just yet. Who knows with the summer holds. Enjoy your time with Maize. Linda

Yeah, the fur bunnies are fun. And as most of us who own dogs who shed, we "take our dogs wherever we go" on our clothes, car seats etc. We should hug whomever invented the vacum cleaner.
A "dog exchange" might be interesting. But as time goes on, I will see who is going to be better with whom. My oldest Sassy I think would love it if both the others would go and leave her alone. Maize, the new one, is wild and has never had any obedience trainng. She wants to play but can't get my other two to play with her. She's been "riding" them so she's trying to be Alpha dog, the which of I am putting a stop to when she does it. I don't want her hurting the other two. NOt sure I didn't hear Sassy give a little wimper tonight. She's 8 now and probably more content to just be with "mom". She and Maize spent a week together about 3 years ago and I guess they just played themselves silly. But now I guess Sassy being older, doesn't want to get into it. Maixe and I are going to have a few obedience sessions in a bit here after I let her go through the adjustment period of being in new surroundings and with a new "mom". So we shall see what happens here. If she gets too out of hand, well, the breeder may have to find her a new home. She interviewed with two families abou two weeks ago, but neither were interested. One cause she is debarked and the other cause she was big and too rambunctous. They had their heart set on a pup. Pups aren't rambunctous? But I adopoted another collie who was a lot like Maize too, full of heck and everything was big new world. With time and patience, she calmed down and became my protector and a really sweet dog.
