Question for those who camp with canines...

Do any of you bring any pens/fencing/or anything like that for late night potty runs while at campgrounds? I plan to walk my dogs extensively during their daily training workouts during the day, but at night/early in the morning when my daughter is asleep in the trailer, I'd like to have an option for a potty place where I wouldn't have to leave the trailer AND without the inevitable tangle of three leads. Any recommendations?

Would a campground have any issues with this? Thoughts?

I bought two portable pens and put them together for my three guys. The pens fold up well and store easily. I got them at Tractor Supply but places like Pet Smart also carry them. You might not have room at a campground at your site and you might have to get permission at some campgrounds. Because they lounge around in the pen they won't potty there. I take my two Labs together and the little girl separately cause she needs more time to walk than they do. I take them out about 10pm and not again until around 6;30am.

I wish my dog would go in our site - will not even pee in it - so have to walk her. Doing pens of any kind would just be for convenience for her to sit outside. Peaches is great tho - we rarely walk again after 8 or so pm (until it's light later) and she doesn't get me up until 7 or 8 am. Haha - in MX - our last walk was often 6 pm - that was winter and we didn't like going out in the dark. My last 2 dogs, I always did a 10 pm walk. Amazing how different dogs adapt.

Many people use them - but as Karen said, some cg's will not allow them- so make sure you can where you set up.

Check out the dog equipment sites like Pet edge, etc. The wire X-pens probable don't take up as much space as the plastic but definitely look different. With bigger dogs you also have to think of how tall you want it. I use two together and it works for everyone but the Herschel! he want privacy away from the rif-raf. Check out the AKC web site for All Breed shows coming soon to your area. You can often get a decent price on the X-pens from vendors and you don't have to pay shipping. You also can eye ball all the different heights available. In the end a "climber" will climb out of anything and many larger dogs will respect a 30 inch fence. I just don't go to the other side of the dog show grounds or campgrounds when I have dogs out.

I have two Xpens for my crew, and when I did camp I never had a problem using them,
and I've seen many others use the same setup at campgrounds. The ones I have I bought
at Petco, a long time ago but they are just like in Karens signiture picture in the background
to the right all folded up. When I first moved in where I am now I used them temporarily
to fence off the front of my space until I got my fence up.

I'm lucky, none of my dogs are climbers or even pushers. A couple was here a few days ago with a couple of Yorkies. One of them just climbed right out of the pen. Was funny.

Thanks, guys. Lots of great ideas. I'm going to look at the wire ones; I do think they would be much lighter. I'm not worried about them jumping out/pushing it, I just pretty much need a boundary marker...so I think the 36" one would work. Thanks for the input!
