Vet day for Gracie

What a fiasco that was!! Had a 10:00 appointment for Gracie to get her ear looked
at, well, first thing when I opened the door she balked and tried to back up so I had
to pick her up, and that wasn't easy, she kept backing away form me!! What a brat!
I get her picked up and went in and there were half a dozen people and their pets
in the waiting room. I hear one of the technicians going on and on apologizing to
some guy in the hallway for the long wait and saying over and over how short handed
they were today, but yet the lady on the phone kept telling people to "sure, bring her
in, we can work her in" ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? after a long wait, there are people
even waiting outside and I say this is just crazy! A big malamute got tired of laying
on the floor and stood up, beautiful old guy with blue eyes and Gracie just freaked,
growling and snarling and baring her teeth, and the dog did nothing to her! I don't
know if she was afraid or if she thought she was protecting my lap which she was
sitting in. Maybe a little of both, she's never seen such a big dog, all the ones at
the dog park were little and its been a good year and a half since we went there.
(bad news dog park) Finally they get us in, its 11:00 and as I suspected, Gracie
has a yeast infection in one ear. When the vet tried to look in her ear with the
scope thingy, she got viscious, and started fighting with us, told the tech to muzzle
her as she had broke the skin on the back of my hand, don't know if it was tooth
or claw but it was a fiasco, she was so scared she pist all over the place. Vet was
so nice about it though and after the muzzle was one and she was wrapped in a towel
she calmed down and he cuddled her. She's all fixed up now with ear drops for yeast
and fungus, 2x a day for 7 days, and I wait another while at the desk trying to pay
my bill and after she rang it all up and took my debit card she said, Oh, you have
a credit on your account, I can give you the money or carry it forward to another
visit, I said, I'll take the cash, thank you. I was so upset with my little brat dog
I shook like a leaf for two more hours. Took her home and went back to work. Don't
know why I just suddenly felt so sick, and dizzy, shaky and decided to eat something
and chat with the other drivers to get myself calmed down. Gracie is the only dog that
has ever been like this and I'm just not accustomed to her temper trantrums when
she has to go to the vet. Bandit was always such a good boy and very proud and the
vet techs used to prance him around and show him off. Pixie is just a love and even
tries to cuddle with the vet, but this little Gracie........
ok, I'm done now, I think I have it out of my system and will just get over it now.

Poor Gracie, she must have been so scared. I'm glad yall made it through and now she has her meds and will be on the mend. Glad you have been able to calm down too, Ava. I know it's upsetting when our babies are frightened.

So sorry you and Gracie had such a stressful day. Better stop by the campfire and get in the hot tub.

It is so difficult to watch the guys be so scared..... At Herschel's first vet (Before I went to work at a different vet office) Herschel would come into the office and when asked to get on the scale he would pee. Next they would always say they wanted him lifted to the table (they would lift him but the young male tech would get peed on every time and the floor would need cleaning.... This was sweet Herschel. First thing I noticed at the clinic I worked at is that the vet sat down on the floor with him to look at his sore ear..... And Herschel didn't have to have any submissive peeing incidents....... When I left that job.....I knew that the next vet was not going to ask him to get on any tables.....

3 glasses of wine later and I'm ready for bed and....she did her ear medicine
just fine tonight

Yeah, know just how you feel Ava, now they just automatically hand me a muzzle for Chewy...I felt bad until the tech told me they do that for all the small dogs, 'specially chi's unless they know for sure they're mellow. She did so much better at the last visit tho with this training we're doing. Altho she did try to climb up my neck while we were in the treatment room waiting for the Dr.

Poor baby. It breaks our hearts when they get so scared and they don't understand that you are only caring for them. Glad that's over and hope she gets well soon.

Gracie sounds like my cat Pepper. There's usually bloodshed when she has to go to the vet. Sometimes it's mine, sometimes the vet. At least I can keep her in a kennel until we get into the room.

When I used to take my old cat, Snuffy, to the vet and leave him there for his treatments (ie; enemas), and then go back to pick him up later, the vet techs would have me come back and take him out of the kennel myself because they were so afraid of him. At home, he was the sweetest cat in the world and loved everyone! I guess I would be attacking people who were trying to stick something up my butt! Can't blame him!
