Loreto, Baja

Still heading South, in fact we are now at Cuidad Constitucion for a one night stay before going to La Paz, but I couldn't get the photos uploaded yesterday so here goes. Everyone said we would LOVE Loreto. It was nice, but having been there once we are in no hurry to revisit it again. The setting is lovely, white caps on the deep blue water. Islands placed as if by a master decorator. In fact as a side note, when we were driving to Cuidad C. I was struck by how much like Scotland it looked. Not what I expected. We rounded a bend and the mountains swept down to the Sea of Cortez. It looked like one of the sea lochs in the Highlands. Anyway, back to business. Oh not yet. One more note. The patience of Mexicans. Out in the wilds, miles from anything we will come across two men with a 10 gallon bucket of paint and a wide brush - painting the lines on the road! A small rock slide - one man with a shovel and wheelbarrow. Half a dozen men with machetes swinging at the weeds at the side of the road. When the bridges went down they were hauling groceries over the river with rope pulleys. Once the water went down a tractor would pull cars and small pickup trucks across. In America, they probably would have had helicopters out, and of course there would be alternate routes. So anyway, you've waited long enough for the photos. This is the City Office Building, the Mayors Office along with many other officials were here.

One street was lined with touristy type shops, yes, we spent money. The trees made arches over the street. Trippy!

Image

The Malecon along the waterfront was beautiful Never saw so many pelicans in my life. I bet the owner of this boat wishes they would ALL hang there little bird bottoms over the side of the boat.

A beautiful walk along the Malecon.

Even the garbage cans were decorated. This was my favorite.

Another great tour. Thanks
Love the garbage can. Wonder if they were decorated in the U.S. people would be better at using them.

My Mom loved Loreto, had a blast there till she tripped on some cobble stones and down she went and smashed her face! Looked like someone punched her in the face because she had two black eyes!! Luckily there was a Doctor traveling with her and Dad so he made sure she was ok!
Love the photo's , keep having fun!! Ruben is almost finished doing all our brick work around the casita

Sparkle, thanks to you and Beth for the wonderfully clear and informative pictures! I sure do hope you are feeling better now, and getting over your cough?

Stay in touch as often as you can---I realize that internet connections down there are scarce, especially as you wander the never-ending miles of beaches! I miss being able to walk on a beach up here in the mountains. Maybe this summer I'll head east to a beach, or two. Maybe that will be my first trip hauling my trailer that is over about 120 miles, round trip!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

OK - I'm there! Trying to figure out if I'm a fool to consider going to Mulege by myself. I do speak Spanish fluently, but........... it is SO inviting! You are doing a good job of luring me down the road you two!
