I think the Senate should just call it quits on the health care reform for now. What's the rush anyway? They need to take the time to really take a look at all the aspects of the system and see how to improve them. Government run health care might be right for other countries, but it is NOT right for this country. Right now what the gov't should concentrate on is the economy and employment, things wont get better till the economy turns around. We can't be taxed anymore, especially now, for these oversized bills with all the hidden agendas. I want to ask what are they thinking, but know they are not thinking, especially about the people. Greed is talking and the gov't is marching to its beat. It's time to get back to our country's foundations, that's what has made us great. Linda

While RV traveling this past year we have met several Canadian citizens who were on their way to Mexico for health issues and dental care. These people told us that the health care in Canada is NOT GOOD under their socialized society and that's why they go to Mexico for a few months EACH year to get their health and teeth taken care of. They also said that illegals coming across their borders get the BEST of care before the citizens of Canada. How wrong is that.

That is what is going to happen in America if this health reform bill is passed at this time. It needs much more scrutinizing. I'm definitely NOT in favor of the Government taking over our health care!!

Cedar
Just noticed you deleted your comments on Health Care issue. You should not have done that. You did NOT offend anyone.
Besides, among the great things remaining about our country is the fact that everyone is entitled to an opinion and it doesn't matter if others agree or not. One of the things that seems to get us in trouble as a nation is people's reluctance to speak up. Never fear expressing thoughts.
Also, always know you are among friends here on the forum.

Cedar - I second that - we all have different opinions and different standards of living. We each need to make our own choices and be glad that we can.

Bluepinecones, you said that very nicely, thats the big reason, I really like this forum, we are all entitled to our opinion, how are we going to get feedback from anyone else, unless we state our opinion? My only opinion in this matter is its "SCARY' If I thought those people we put up there had read this bill, I might be a little more at ease. I think the debt issue of this country is more important, jobs, our debts to other countries, bills we are still running up and NO money to back them.

I, like another sistah here, know people who could buy insurance or have their own dr., but why, when they need medical help they get it. There will always be those people. Responsibility was not taught to them and why pay when they can get it all for free. So therefore we all have paid for them, through the years and now its hard for some of us to afford our own medical care. But unless our economy is turned around somehow, we're all going to be in a bigger mess in this country, in more ways then just our health issues.
If we don't have jobs or income, how can we pay taxes? (I guess I do have a wee bit more of an opinion then just "scary" huh?)

I PRAY ALOT

We must be careful when voicing our opinions that we don't disparage or disrespect another's opinions by calling them out by name. We certainly don't want to go back to the days of censorship of our comments.

We love you Cedar, and as for me, I value the diversity of thoughts expressed. I haven't expressed an opinion here because I honestly don't know what's best for our country. Sadly, I'm not sure those making the decisions do either. I wish there was more open, honest, respectful debate and less partisanship involved.

Yes Cedar, one reason I responded to your post is because on this forum we are all friends and respect others opinions, just as we all have a right to say things that might make others think. I don't believe that anything that was stated in any of these posts will cause Beth to censor things we say on this forum. We disagreed as Ladies--no name calling. The use of your name was only so you would know the post was addressed to you, I try to address all posts to the person that I was talking to. Sorry if you read anything into it that wasn't meant.

Another thought on voicing a thought or idea, & using the example of the idea of loopholes for the people who earn more. I too thought that those loopholes were there and wondered, so had it not been brought up for others of our sisters to read and feel they could speak up and say hey, that isn't the case, we learned from the dialog. Had we heard it from a stranger we might have still been skeptical. I for one believe very little of what I hear on the news or read in the papers!
Hope that makes sense!

The congressmen and senators should have to have the same health care they vote for us instead of having the first class, low cost care they have. Then they might think about what they are voting on.

Martha, I agree with you 100% on this statement. If they had to live with what they are asking the rest of us to live with, we would get a much better system for sure!

We're taking a wait and see attitude on the health care bill - as it stands doesn't seem to helpful to any one except the paper industry.
Our health plan with the revisions for next year just came. We are locked into it as it is part of my retirement package and is handled out of California. Any way one of the pills I take will go from $10 for 90 days to $100 for 90 days starting Jan 1. And our copay will go from 0 to 20% -
IF we still lived in CA or NV we could get Secure Horizons which is a better plan - but not living there we are forced into this one. Also our doc here might not be one of the "providers" next year. Haven't found out for sure until 2010. He's the only doc in town so sure hope so.
As for the uninsured - many years ago - our son (22 at that time) was in a terrible motorcycle accident and had no insurance - other driver took off. He was treated at Los Angeles county hospital (USCs teaching hospital) was there for 40 days he ended up owing about $100. Sure he was in a ward and the food was terrible - but he his care was excellent

Martha, a few weeks ago I heard a senator proposing just that. An amendment that would require all congress to take the same health care they are proposing for us. I tuned into Cspan and it caught my interest. I haven't heard a word since, guess there were no takers. Surprise, surprise. Linda

Not sure what the solution is but a lot of the same arguments against were made when medicare went into effect. I do know there is something wrong with our medical care when the United States is behind countries like Spain, France on the list for infant fatalities. I do know that altho I worked my entire life I didn't have ANY health insurance until I went to work fo rthe City of San Diego at age 42 because I couldn't afford the premiums if I wanted to feed my family. Congress has had many, many years to do SOMETHING and hasn't - they have excellent health insurance so why should they worry about the people who voted them into office. The time has come to do something - it may not be perfect but it has to be done.
