VETERANS' DAY 2009

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

VETERANS' DAY 2009

Postby Nasoosie » Wed Nov 11, 2009 7:49 am

GOOD MORNING ALL!

It's a holiday for us, (a very poignant Veterans' Day for us this year, I might add, in light of the latest happenings on this earth) clear, sunny and 18 degrees outside. I will go to one of the RV dealers today to get my truck cap installed. I was also going to the other dealer's to pick up my trailer that now has its new tires, but it will get me back here in the dark if I do that. Backing up to park in my narrow shelter in the dark is NOT something I wish to tackle alone! So I will wait for Saturday to get the trailer and just enjoy the new camper cap today. I can make Saturday a shopping day for groceries in the city, to boot.

The earlier sun is now gone, and it looks as if today will be overcast and grey----with these temps, it seems as if snow could begin to fall. I am ready for snow, but just not until I get the trailer parked for the winter! I am looking forward to some cross-country skiing.

I hope all of us will remember all the fallen military people today and their families, and take time to honor all the active military people out there. Some day I have hopes that we may be able to eliminate Veterans' Day from our calendar due to our having no veterans and no military people in any wars----although I don't have much hope for that's happening in my lifetime, perhaps that's a future goal we humans should all be striving for. In the meantime, it's nice to have a day off in the middle of the week and a break from my frustrating job.

Hope everyone is safe on the roads, and happy wherever you may be. Time for me to get acquainted with my new truck cap!
Life is about learning to dance in the rain
Happy travels!

Good morning ladies!

Glad you have the day off and happy things (new truck topper) to look forward to, Soos.

Dregs of Ida came through with steady downpours last evening. Sprinkles this morning. We need the rain, so it's a good thing. Gives me an excuse not to do yard work today. There's enough to do inside to keep me busy.

I am now officially a "Friend of Silver River State Park," and will volunteer for certain events and projects such as workdays, trail maintenance, etc. For my support I get 12 free admissions to the park, no free camping though.

Hope everyone has a happy day as we reflect on the sacrifices our veterans make to ensure our freedom to pursue it.

I can feel it - this will be a good day. It's been too long since I've been in the SoCal desert and even longer since there's been a beach remotely near by.

Got here to Blythe yesterday and found a spot, of sorts. I was tired and any place looked good. Don't have to pay until this morning, so I'll most likely change spots in a bit. The water faucets where I am are pretty iffy and I don't want to flood the place.

After about 1500 miles, this rig needs a thorough cleaning, both inside and out, so will start that today. Wanted to get it washed at a truck wash, but the one here doesn't do washes any longer. So, I'll bite the bullet and do it by hand.

Stopped at Gene's RV Repair outside of Mesa, Arizona yesterday, on the recommendation of Beth and Jean (Sparkle) and finally had a new onboard water connection installed. Took him an hour to get the part and five minutes to put it in. So now I can comfortably boondock again without having to haul gallon jugs of water around. Ooh! I can even use my shower again! If you're ever around Phoenix or Mesa and need repairs, I heartily recommend them. Doug is infatuated with the idea of us women fulltiming by ourselves.

I'm driving into San Diego this weekend to see my mom and hopefully hit the beaches there. One of the big things with cross-country bicycle trips is dipping the bike wheel into the ocean on one coast and doing it again at the other. Although I haven't entirely crossed the country this year, I feel running and jumping into the Pacific will be a fitting conclusion to this recent journey. It will also signify the end of a long-time relationship, as does finally getting the water connection installed. To be a little philosophical for a minute, the connection now allows me to let something new and required (water) to enter my rig, just as the end of a relationship that wasn't working will allow new and hopefully better things to enter me as well.

60 degrees this morning in Catalina State Park, Arizona, but it will go up to the 90's pretty soon. I had a shower yesterday. What a good idea those things are! After 8 days without one I just stood in that water and let it pour over me. Thought I'd never get out. We were going to stay 2 days, but the Internet connection isn't good enough for Beth's business, luckily we only paid for one night, so we plan to boondock while in Tucson, then one night in a campground to dump, get water and SHOWER! Today we are going to Biosphere 2. Pics tonight!
Soos, I love my truck topper. No more tarp's to tie down. Everything is safe and dry. Enjoy.

Good-morning !!! 3 days and I am leaving here. Last night studied the map for another way out of here. Any of you see the landslide on Hwy.64, in Tn on the weather channel? Thats about 10 miles or so from me and also my way out, usually. Takes me over to 75 to Chattanooga to points west. So now add another 100 miles to any route, I do take. I travel that road often, and have wondered how some of those boulders stay up there right over the road. Its really a beautiful route by the Ocoee river, all seasons of the year.

Yesterday was a constant downpour, my app. with my hairdresser was yesterday. Had planned to do all errands too, but couldn't with the weather, gave up and came home. So another trip into town, which is 25 miles or so to finish all the business. Things keep happening, not unusual, just beginng to get a wee bit more complicated this time.

Oh my ,the sun is coming out, thats nice, we had 24 hrs or more of constant rain, no let up here at all. I never mind the rain, always have things to do in the house. Yesterday, would have been nice to have been able to do all I had planned for the day though.

I don't see anythng from Echo here, did she make it to see that Grandbaby? Thought we might have more pics from her, with her holding that little one.

Any outsider reading this forum, would think we are a dirty bunch of women, the length of time between showers, and how we so enjoy them when they are available   Just another highlight of RVing though, makes you really appreciate the everyday things

I hope you all have a beautiful day and those traveling stay safe and enjoy the sights,

Carol

Morning, everyone.
Had my coffee and oatmeal and will leave in 1/2 hr. to go workout. Then it's a shower and off to my dog grooming place to get Choco's nails trimmed for free. Wednesdays they are done for free, and also their big sale days on their food/feed (they sell food for dogs, cats, goats, poultry etc.). After that I'm free for the rest of the day.

My GDs other grandmother is visiting and the girls wanted a 'grandmother's' day where both of us baked cookies with them. Not sure what day that will happen. Perhaps today is a good day since the kids are out of school all day? I might call her in a bit.

No sun here for at least the next week. In the 50s for highs and perhaps a flake of snow later this week. Nothing measureable. We mostly get liquid snow this time of year.

Soos, I know you'll enjoy that new truck topper!
Sparkle, looking forward to seeing pics of the biosphere. I was there years ago and it was falling apart then. We weren't allowed inside so had to look through the windows. Very interesting concept, though. Also I remember a huge motorhome pulling into their parking lot, towing a big Cadillac. They both were painted to look like they were made of gold.

Ok, need to scoot! Have a safe day everyone!

I just moved to my new spot and am going to go take a LONG shower. Let's see - it hasn't been eight days, but close. Last chance to take one was Thursday morning at the Escapees campground in Deming, NM.

Hi all! I am slow getting moving this morning after a couple nights with DGD (DD is in CA for work). Free today, then back at 5 pm to stay the night again. Tomorrow, nanny (and her daughter), my DGD, and I are planning to visit local state park. Play and have a picnic. That will be fun. Then camping trip this week-end with DD and cousins.

It's been FABULOUS weather here. Warm during day and cooling off for nights.

The new cover came in for my water heater, but won't get it until next week. Also am thinking about when to winterize. Hoping waiting until mid-December will be ok. I'll talk it over with the RT folks when I get the cover.

OH, and I have just about decided to pick-up a folding bike. The Adventurer is on sale this month at Camping World. Always am wishing I had one when in campgrounds!

Sparkle.....I love Tucson....have a step-sister there. Be sure to see San Xavier, it's so worth a visit!

I second San Xavier. Beautiful place. And, be sure to visit the small market area outside and across from the mission. If you can, talk to the Navajo silversmith there, Joe Begay. Last time I was there, his booth was to the right as you enter. He told some wonderful stories about his life in movies and has the photographs to prove it.

Good Morning
a paid holiday for me, they didn't used to give us this day off but the district
decided with so many veterans taking the day off anyway in ALL departments
that they should put it on our list of paid holidays. But of course that means
they took one away, think it was Presidents day they took away, we were still
off but not a paid holiday. Seems to me I remember some talk amongst the
employees about it being odd they gave us Martin Luther King day as a paid
holiday but not Presidents day. Personally, I find that ludicrous as in my humble
opinion I think Presidents day is much more important than Martin Luther King day.

Not much doing today, just some general housework inside, pulling the table out
and computer up off the floor for a good cleaning, replace the rugs underneath
with clean ones and call it good.

If I get energetic.......there is always the shed to re-arrange as last time I was
in there I was in a hurry and put it all back any which way.

Coffee is good this morning and a bowl of oatmeal will hit the spot.
Enjoy your day and honor our veterans, we did that yesterday at work, had
a bit of a brunch with all our dept veterans listed on the board.

Good Morning All

Ida came thru with lots of rain and enough wind to destroy what progress had been made in getting leaves under control. But this morning we have beautiful sunshine and a few days forecast for it to continue to be nice. Will give the leaves a couple of days to dry out and try again.

There are many Veteran's Day activities planned for our area today. The city has a good reputation for supporting our troops, past and present.

My hand is continuing to improve. Seem to be getting a bit more use of it daily.

Have a safe and fun day whatever you have planned.
