Chilly Tuesday Morning

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Chilly Tuesday Morning

Postby Colliemom » Tue Oct 08, 2024 7:38 am

Morning everyone. 37° when I got up this morning. So thanks to sone lake effect rain showers in the early evening, it’s chilly and damp outside. So no outside chores for me today. Other things to do anyway. Want to clean bathroom and kitchen, run the vac and then head to town to gas up truck and pick up a few things from the store. Hopefully will be able to work on my DP later today. I’m about 3/4 finished now.

Molly had a good checkup yesterday. Things are improved from last checkup. But in order to keep it that way, am going to continue the daily eye drop routine. I could stop them, but that would mean having to go back for a recheck in 1-2 months and with Winnter coming, uh uh. Continuing drops it will be 4-6 months which means pushing into spring. Was a nerve racking drive yesterday with road construction on and off for about half of it. I was so glad to get farther north and out of the barrels, cement barriers, traffic shifts etc. MI is in midst of major road construction all over the state, so there’s been a lot including 6 Mo ths worth here too in our I-75 business route. But it’s been sorely needed.

I see that the hurricane has downgraded to a Cat 4 and 145 mph Winds this morning. Looks like my neighbors might just escape any damage where they are as Winds expected to gust about 40-50 mph and a couple inches of rain. But given the unpredictable nature of these things, not to be trusted. Glad Irmi and Steve are bailing out. For those who might remember Carol Lamphere, she and her family are also evacuating.

Karen, when you make meatloaf muffins, how long do you cook them. I know regular meatloaf is about an hour, so was wondering if it is about same in the muffin tins.

Martha, that was nice of you to take the neighbors cat. Although it means adding to your crew. Hope it adjusts to all the cat activity. And to you.

Well, I I want to accomp, ish anything today, best get moving here. Have a nice day everyone.

Morning Sue, not too bad here this morning 46°/ 78° slight chance of showers this week but I doubt we will see any. Glad you got a good report for Molly. Hope Irmi and Steve dont have trouble leaving. Saw pics of all the traffic, looks bad. I have a few errands to run today but need to do my deep vacuuming this morning then Henry will be back on the job later this week. He does great for the dog hair and stuff on the top but my big vacuum gets the deep down dirt so use that every month or so. Still finding some dust I missed during the electric construction. Glad that job is done. It was 88 yesterday so turned on my ceiling fan in my bedroom when I went to bed. Set the timer for 2 hours........perfect. I only had it on low but moved the air around so I was comfy.

Sue I lightly spray my muffin tin and fill 3/4 full. Cook for about 20-25 minutes depending how full they are. I use my digital thermometer to check the temp At this point should be 165° then put my glaze on top and return to the oven for another 5-10 minutes. Sometimes I just turn the broil on to caramelize it better. My glaze is just ketchup and brown sugar. So good.

Having my second cup of coffee, checking out the internet, watching the news then will get some breakfast and get dressed..........ready to start my day.

Yesterday was an adventure, but not the fun kind.

I spent 2 hours trying to get thru to the USPS main office and when I finally got a live person, she had no idea where my phone was. I ended up going to the local post office and they told me it will either show up at their location or back at Amazon.

I have Total by Verizon, formerly Total Wireless. Their only store near here is up in Casa Grande, so I decided to drive up there to get a new phone and have them set it up for me. I was on the I-10 heading out of Tucson and saw one of those overhead signs saying that there was an accident ahead and traffic was backed up, so I took the next exit and went to David and Julies place which was just a couple miles from where I was. I stayed there for a couple hours chatting with them, then headed out around 3pm to try again. Traffic heading north was not bad by then, but at the accident scene on the south side was at a complete standstill since they shut down the freeway on that side. The traffic was backed up for about 15 miles! There was a frontage road along that stretch that they were sending traffic down to get around it but that was also at a standstill because of all the cars and only a very narrow road to drive on.

I was worried I would have to spend the night up there if the freeway didn't open back up until late.

I got to Casa Grande and decided to first stop at the gourd farm as long as I was up there. But they are closed on Mondays, so I went back to town and found the phone store. I picked out a new phone and they set it up for me. I sat in my car to call the highway patrol to find out if the freeway had opened up again but kept getting a message that my call wouldn't go thru. I tried a couple other numbers and got the same message. I finally went back in the store and told them what was happening. Turns out he put the old SIM card in the new phone which was causing the issue, so he put in a new one and it worked. Luckily, I had stayed there while trying to make the calls and caught him just before he was closing!

I did find out the freeway was opened around 6pm and it was now 7pm, so I decided to head home. I usually don't like to drive after dark and being tired, but I went anyways and it was fine by then.

Then I got a bunch of text messages that had been sent over the last 5 days. 2 of them were from the RV dealer trying to get ahold of me about a potential buyer! :o So now I am waiting for a call back from them. I hope I didn't miss out on a sale! Damn phone!!

Will stay home today and get caught up around here on unpacking, etc. My roommate has been spending the past week down the street dog sitting and just got home this morning, so I haven't seen much of her other than the few times she was here getting stuff ready for the dog festival.

So that is my latest news!

I wonder how many people in FL will decide enough is enough with these huge hurricanes, and move out of state. The insurance companies are gonna stop insuring people down there, as they already have in other areas. The costs will be prohibitive for home owners anyways after all this.

Hopefully, this hurricane will continue to lose steam as it hits FL tomorrow. Hopefully, it will continue out to the Atlantic instead of decided to turn north and go up the east coast.

I think I better call the RV place again...have a good day and stay safe!

Barbie I second good thoughts on selling your RV. Hope Irmi and Steve landed at their rental ok. Eeryone else is hunkering down wherever they evacuated too. This is a very scary storm.

I had excitement last night here. Nice clear night and I actually saw the Northern Lights. They were NE of me so I had a pretty good view. So stayed up a bit later than usual but they were pretty awesome. Mostly purples and greens. Lots of people posting pictures but I didnt take any, I just enjoyed watching them. I had never seen them before. Spectacular.

Today I made pecan cinnamon rolls so now it is safe to say I am in a sugar coma. I wouldn't be if I had not eaten TWO of them. So just a small salad for me for dinner.....later.

Good evening ladies!

We drove 7-1/2 hours to go from our home in Webster to Richmond Hill GA. We visit that area sort of regularly and has taken us less than 5 hours, but the traffic was horrendous. On top of that, most gas stations were out of gas and we ended up having to go to a truck stop to fuel up. There is a gas station next to the Quality Inn where we are staying and we'll top the tank off again for our return trip on Friday. Despite the fact that the traffic was a pain, I'm glad so many people are taking this storm so seriously. I guess we'll know more tomorrow to see where it will make landfall and how strong the winds are.

Karen, I'm so excited you saw the Northern Lights. And Irmi, I'm more excited that you and Steve arrived safe and hopefully out of harns way.

Irmi, glad you made it out. The weather repots are not getting any better. The latest report still has the storm at a 5.

Barbie, hope you lose that black cloud soon. Hope your RV sells. You are so right about the insurance going up or out. I have about reached the amount I am willing to pay here and I can only get home insurance through the state.

After I got my car serviced I went to get gas at Sam's. Gas was $2.50. Picked up a whole pizza, cat food and some ground meat. I have one of the muffin tins with the square holes and I don't think I have ever used it. If I have time tomorrow I will make a meatloaf.

I make the cats come in at dark and Frosty didn't come in Saturday. I didn't see him all day Sunday or Monday. Last night about midnight Luna was howling in her sleep so I went to check on her. Since I was up I looked out and Frosty was coming across the carport. He didn't look like he felt good but I didn't pay much attention to him since he ate some food. Tonight when he came in I checked him and he has a large knot on his side. He doesn't want me messing with it so I will call the vet in the morning and see if I can get him in. I let the new cat out of the kennel tonight and she is hiding somewhere.

We are finally having some fall temperatures. The high was 88 but it's down to 66 tonight.

My parents had a cottage on the tip of Michigan's thumb, overlooking Lake Huron, from 1951-2000. We used to have a lot of beach fires and parties late at night, so I got to see the northern lights a lot as a child and even adult. I remember one night, however, when I was driving my younger son and his girlfriend home to the Detroit area late one night through farm country. The lights were so bright and multiple colors that we stopped the car in the middle of the deserted road, turned off the headlights, and all got out to look.

Dumped my tanks today and finally was able to find someone who would check my brakes and replace them, as I suspect is needed as they are making a noise, but unfortunately it is all the way in Eugene, so won't get done until next week or so. I also have an appointment there to get water heater either fixed or replaced. If it needs to be replaced, I will have to change me schedule a bit because it will likely need to be ordered. Will be along ocean beach at one point, so might have to adjust schedule to get repairs done. I don't want to wait until I get to my son's house as stuff will likely be more expensive there and take up my time.

I have been working on writing my very lengthy life story, mostly about my childhood and growing up with a ton of aunts, uncles, and cousins. My sons have met few of them, and I want to describe how things were growing up in the early 50s for my grandchildren. I've also included information about my grandparents, and what I have learned about my great and 2nd great-grandparents.

PS - Stomach has been upset so I got out some of the dried Lipton Chicken Noodle soup i had and started to heat it up. Then noticed it looked a little funny, so checked the date---way, way out of date, so tossed it. Then went through other stuff in my cupboard and tossed a bunch. I know not everything out of date is bad, but this stuff was a couple of years out of date.

Anyway, I think I will drive to store tomorrow and get some more soup that is fresh!! In meantime, I am eating only soup I had that was good!! Cannot believe how I have ignored old food.
