Muggy Thursday Afternoon

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Muggy Thursday Afternoon

Good afternoon ladies!

Sheila, I neglected to tell you that we are driving the car to MD. Campgrounds in our area are not near were we will be. The one we used to go to takes long term long, 30 days or longer. So were staying in an Airbnb on the water. Its ard to believe we are leaving in one week.

It was 80 degrees when I got up this morning and the dewpoint was also 80. Needless to say, it is very humid. It feels like you're walking through a warm cotton ball when you go outside.

Crab cakes and potato skins with another veggie will be dinner.

Enjoy your day.

Hurry Up and Wait, Thursday!

Postby BarbaraRose » Thu Aug 08, 2024 2:46 pm

No one has anything interesting to say I guess?

Well, a week ago on Monday, I had a mammogram. A few days later, I got a call that they wanted me to come in for an ultrasound for something they saw on my right side. So this morning I went in for that. I first got a special kind of mammogram done on that side. Then they had a dr look at it and determine if I needed the ultrasound. Yes...so I waited to get that done. It is amazing all the things that go thru your mind while you are waiting. :( I went in and got the ultrasound done. Then more waiting for the results. More crazy thinking... Finally, was told there was nothing that concerned them. Whew!! :o What a relief!!

Now, I sit here waiting to hear about the closing. The escrow lady called earlier and said they are just waiting for final funds from the buyer and some paperwork from his agent. Then I will just need to go in and sign some final papers before they send the money to my account.

I found an RV in San Marcos that I am going out to look at tomorrow. I will just go out in the morning to look at it, and then stop at the Gourd Farm near there on my way back home. I also found a Jeep in Mesa, AZ that looks very nice, but I can't even go check it out without having money to buy it. Not gonna go all that way just to look.

A guy just showed up to inspect the roof on my house. No one told me about that. I guess the buyers agent sent him. It was inspected by the home inspector several weeks ago and he didn't say anything much about the roof in his report, other than there were some "tree debris" on it (palm fronds).

Well now he just left...he was up there not even one whole minute! So obviously he didn't see anything worth looking at closer. Another "Whew!!" Geeze, I am gonna have a nervous breakdown pretty soon!

I need to eat some lunch and then I have a dentist appointment at 2:30...

Barbie, I hope everything gets finalized today for you. Sounds like they are doing last minute checks.

TY was throwing up off and on yesterday. But he otherwise seemed ok. Until dinnertime when he wouldn't eat. He has never skipped a meal. This morning diarrhea and still wouldn't eat. So I called both vets in town first thing and the one that got back to me first with an appt in an hour got me. No cause has been found. Good news is after a complete blood work none of the scary, dangerous possibilities reared up. He got fluids and antibiotics while there and I have 2 pills to give him, one tomorrow, one Saturday. I put some food out for him when we got home but again he walked away BUT where he wouldn't even take a treat this morning, he gobbled his vitamin "treats". So, fingers crossed that the weekend shows improvement. If not, we are to return Monday. This vet office was super busy and I felt good about them, so they've become my Benson area vet.

So that's what I've been up to. TY started this off by waking up in bed and throwing up on it yesterday morning. My mattress has a zipper covering. I've never minded my back corner beds. Except when i have to remove that mattress cover and again, worse yet, putting it back on. It is a true workout.

Last two nights I slept with my bedroom window open. Yay.

No closing today and doesn't look good for tomorrow either  .

Then there was the dentist appointment...I got x-rays and then got told how bad my teeth are (ones that need crowns, etc) which I already knew but just never could afford the work to be done. I then set up an appointment for next week for cleaning. When I asked how much my out of pocket amount would be after my insurance, I just about died with she told me! $600!!! :o Just for the fancy, dancy cleaning they do! She said the insurance was paying $1500. So, over $2 grand for teeth cleaning??? Yikes! I will wait until I can go to Mexico and get that done and all the rest of the work. So I will be cancelling that appointment. How do people afford to get their teeth fixed now days? Especially if they have kids?

It has been a very stressful and frustrating day... :(

Gotta get to bed early so I can be up and hit the road by 7am tomorrow. It is a 2 hour drive over the mountains.

Barbie, be sure to call around when you get a "surprise" estimate on a dental procedure (or anything else for that matter).

Some years back, the dentist I had been going to for a while said I needed $4,000 (four-thousand!) dollars worth of work on my teeth, just as I was getting ready to retire. The price included my insurance! I was just about floored.

I called around, while checking the online reviews of various dentists around town, and found one (still local) that did the needed work for $800.00. And that was several years ago - and the teeth that my new dentist did the work on are still doing just fine.

Good luck on your closing - and beware of anyone coming to your door wishing to do new "inspections" at this late date. Sounds bogus to me, you being so close to closing. I would phone my realtor - or escrow officer - before I would let anyone on my roof, or inside my house, to do any further "inspections".

I have ridden in the real estate rodeo a time or two in the past.

Just sayin' . . .

Ditto on what Anne said. I do not have dental insurance, at the advice of my old dentist who said that most of the time it does not cover much compared to what it costs. BUT, I agree that that amount is ridiculous!!! I think I was paying about $200 for a cleaning and a dental check. When I go to see a dentist, I always tell them I do not have insurance and ask what the visits will cost. This is after going to a new dentist about 20 years ago, who gave me an estimate of my needing several thousands of dollars of work. My previous dentist had retired, but I had been seeing him every 6 months and keeping up with everything. I took the copies of the x-rays and never went back to this new guy. Found someone else who was much more reasonable. Found this article just to check on prices, and this article says an average cost is $104 for a cleaning. https://www.goodrx.com/conditions/dental-care/dental-cleaning-cost-without-insurance The article also suggests dental colleges. I am going to find a new dentist in Napa soon, so this applies to me also.

Did you ever watch the very funny Car Talk program on the radio? There were two brothers who answered questions about car repairs, and whenever someone called in and the brothers thought someone had been way over-charged, they always said the shop owner probably needed to make a payment on his new boat!!

Am in Canada, about 150 miles north of the Soo. I really enjoyed the campground at the locks and took a lot of ship photos, but it is going to take me a couple of days to get them posted on my blog since I was driving today and will be driving all day tomorrow.

Anne, I asked the guy who sent him and he told me the buyers agents name so I figured he was legit. My agent thinks they needed another inspection on the roof for the home-owners insurance policy that they just applied for.

I have dental insurance thru AARP so I can use it anywhere. I might check with some dentists in Tucson when I go out there in a couple weeks.

Barbie, glad your mammogram was ok. I had to have a biopsy in about 1976. Back then the plan was if it was cancer they were going to take my breast. No discussing what my options might be if it was bad. Things have come a long way since then. Thank goodness it was nothing. The dentist you went to must be on something, $2,000 for a cleaning. My last cleaning was $195. Hope they finally get on with the closing.

Beth, hope Ty is ok. Maybe he ate something when you weren't looking. Glad you were able to get a vet to see him. I have waterproof mattress covers on all the beds. Now I put a couple of the waterproof pads since I have them so I don't have to take the mattress cover off if a cat throws up.

Never heard anything about my car.

It was 101 again. It's going to be a long hot month. It is getting dark earlier. I thought about walking about 8:00 but it was still like an oven outside.

Beth, I, too, hope Ty will be okay.

Barbie, your fee for a dental cleaning is crazy!!! Definitely go somewhere else.

Martha, I hope you get your car back soon.
