Wednesday, August 7th

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Wednesday, August 7th

Morning from the sunny 45th. 50°, predicted high of 78 today. Going to be busy day. Haircut, followed by attorney appt. To pick up and sign legal papers and the meeting ith executive director of Community Foundation. All of these are about an hour to two hours apart. Then will have my legal stuff in order again and everything set. Maybe will spray paint last two shutters when I get home. Picked up screws yesterday as well as more spray paint.

Barbie, you could donate those pens and highlighters to a school maybe or charitable organization or senior center maybe. What about in your park. Do they do activities or other things where they could use them? Test a few and see if they work and if not, into the trash. Highlighters do dry out over time. Sounds like you are making progress slow but sure.

Catherine, the trans Canada really is nothing special from Winnipeg to Calgary. There are some nice spots, but far and few between. Small little towns with a grain elevator, small gas station and maybe a store for the local area of which the people are scattered around. Otherwise the Trans Canada is a beautiful drive on beginning on the east side to Winnipeg and Calgary west to the Pacific. I’ve been across it twice. Here’s a picture I took in eastern Alberta outside a town. Take out the fence and you pretty well got what it’s like for 2 1/2 days of driving on a long flat road.

O’Sharon, hope your car gets fixed in short order and passes inspection. Martha, I don’t blame you for not wanting to drive in the dark. I don’t either.

Got a jury summons for U,S. District court the other day. Filled out the online info as requested. Age and hearing handicap got me excused. That court is a hundred mile drive from here. Glad I can forget it. I’m exempted in Michigan as anyone over 70 can opt out. District court is 73.

Good morning, cool 54 and cloudy right now but it is early. We will be 91 so not too bad. I had a fun day yesterday. Met Laura for lunch and it was very good. Today is our Bunco group. My neighbors car isnt fixed yet and he has a doctor appt this morning so I will take him to that. Took his wife Mary to her doctor appt on Monday. They are good neighbors and his wife took me to my cataract surgeries so helping each other out is great.

I need to fertilize my plants again today. Fighting the deer eating my Hydrangeas out front. Dang deer. I caught one on my camera the other night munching away. At least they are not bothering my back yard. It is fenced but only 4ft tall so they could if they wanted to jump over it. Thank goodness they have not found it yet.

Time for some breakfast soon and will take a shower later when I am done with my neighbor duties and yard duties.

Morning. Quickie for now. Barbie, I thought you'd like this about the only ferret native to North America.

I'm cooling off after unloading my car. Waiting for a tow truck to come get it. Since it's at my house I'm sure he's not in a hurry. This is the second time I have had to have it towed. I'm not feeling very confident about that car. The dealership told me they were backed up so it will be a few days before they can get to it. Hopefully I won't have trouble with the truck.

When I went to visit my brother in Thunder Bay he took me for a drive along the North shore of Lake Superior. It was in October and the air was so clean and fresh. We went to somewhere there was a waterfall. I don't remember if it was at a park or where it was. There was a viewing area so it must be some kind of attraction.

Good morning gals!

Beth, thanks for the link for the Black-Footed Ferrets. I am very familiar with them and their story, but I am very interested in the live-trapping program for volunteers that they mentioned in the article. I have seen videos of that being done but didn't know they had a volunteer program. I will definitely have to check that out. It is done in Seligman, AZ. That is on the section of Route 66 that I haven't explored yet and is on my bucket list.

Martha, along the shore of Lake Superior from Duluth to Thunder Bay are many state parks with many, many waterfalls along that route! I love driving along there, and my mom and I went up there every year to rent a cabin on Lake Superior. She was more into shopping and eating which was fun but I always wanted to do some hiking and exploring off the main road. I went up one time after she passed away, by myself and stopped at several of the state parks and went hiking along those rivers which was amazing!

Slept good, other than having to kick Romeow out of the bedroom at 5am  . Will get started again here after I have my bagel. I also have been making smoothies in the morning with a box of Premier Protein drink (caramel) and one strawberry Activia yogurt cup blended together in my mini-Bullet. It is frothy and yummy! I get my protein and pro-biotics for breakfast!

Have a good day!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Way back in about 1982, my ex and two sons who were about 10 and 13, borrowed a pop-up camper from my aunt and took a three-week vacation traveling completely around Lake Superior. There are literally dozens, if not hundreds, of waterfalls around Lake Superior. Basically, a lot of small streams empty into the lake, and I remember stopping at dozens of streams to look at waterfalls and rapids. Very beautiful places, which is one reason I am heading west along the north coast of the lake this time.

I have been watching big lake freighters pass by this campground just east of the Soo Locks, and frankly am getting a bit tired of running out and taking photos all the time. Today, I went for a 2.5 hour boat tour. It was supposed to be shorter, but a ship was in the locks, so we had to go through one older one on the Canadian side. Nice day and great way to see this area.

I have stocked up on stuff I know is hard to find in Canada, like Dr. Pepper. My first stop after I head over the bridge tomorrow morning is going to be the Walmarts on the Canadian side to get some Canadian cash and some peameal bacon and a couple of other things. There will not be another big supermarket until I reach Thunder Bay next Wednesday--lots of small mom and pop stores, but no guarantees of a good selection.

Finally a cooler day here!! I don't think I could have remained sane if it hadn't cooled down! It was 70 this morning which after the heat felt a bit chilly. I just had my computer do a strange thing it started flashing a message that I needed to call Apple as I was locked out of FB and everything . I've had a similar thing happen and I just turned my computer off and back on which took care of it. It didn't work this time though so I looked up the Apple Support number and called. It didn't talk long and they fixed it. What a relief.

Martha you mentioned about kids running out in front of your car and I've noticed they do the same here on the busy main street. I almost hit one the other day as he hesitated and then decided to run right in front of me. Maybe it's a 'thing'. I hope your truck keeps running and your car is an easy inexpensive fix. Sue glad you were excused from jury duty. It took a lot of calling around to get out of a US District Court jury I filled out all the paperwork that was required from people over 70 and I thought sure I would be excused but I got a summonds. I had decided not to go and face the consequences when I was finally able to be removed! I'm a long way from 70!

Sue, I can see what you mean. That would be a long, boooorrrring couple of days. However, what the others said about driving around Lake Superior do make me want to experience that area now. Something to look forward to & possibly plan.

I got an earthquake alert on my phone last night a little after 9. Within seconds, it felt like Sadie was rubbing against my bed, but... she was asleep on the floor not moving at all. Googled it & there was a 5.2 quake up near Lamont (by Bakersfield) over 2 hours north of here. Turns out quite a few folks felt it down here.

I made fried chicken livers for dinner tonight. All my siblings love chicken livers - since there are 8 or us & only 1 liver with each chicken, it was a special treat to get it when mom fried chicken - that's if she didn't nab it first. I only cook them once in a great while (like every 2 years of so) but since I'll be up with my brothers in WA next week, I wanted to make sure I still know how to make them - just in case... yum!

Martha, hope your car gets fixed & doesn't cost too much.
Take care all,
Catherine

Catherine, I read today, about the earthquake but I never felt it here. I also read that a lot of people had a warning about it on their phones about 10 seconds before it hit. Not a lot of warning but enough time to get under something or run outside.

I went out to run a few errands today and it was SO miserable outside! :o Not terribly hot (103*) but horribly humid! :o Dew point was in the mid 70's, very oppressive! Just walking out to my car from WM, I was dripping with sweat by the time I got in my car! I really don't like humidity at all! :(

I called around to get renters insurance since I am required to have that according to the sales contract, for the time I am staying here after closing. Turns out renters insurance is all but impossible to get now days! State Farm no longer offers it so I called my agent at Farmers/Foremost where I have my home-owners insurance, and they don't offer it anymore either. He called around for me and found a company I have never heard of before that still offers it so I got that taken care of. I wonder why they are all dropping that?

Escrow finally got the HOA documents today but are still waiting on some paperwork from the buyers agent. She is the one that took over the listing on my house after I fired the first agent. She didn't do anything for me either so I had her discontinue my listing contract. The first two agents both live here in the park and I think would rather play golf or lay by the pool, instead of sell houses. They just let the big buck golf course properties sell themselves, but don't want to put in the work to sell the smaller, less expensive homes here. My ReMax agent doesn't like working with her much because she isn't good with getting the paperwork done on time. I just hope she comes thru tomorrow!

I would love to drive all the way around Lake Superior sometime. I have been to Bayfield Wisconsin on the lake but not further east. I have heard that Door County, WI on Lake Michigan is really pretty! Might have to check that out one day too!

Got another problem with my car now. I had a small bug on my driver's side window so I pushed the button to open it and let the bug out. When the window went down it sounded like a bunch of rocks grinding around in the door! Same thing when I closed the window again! What the heck?? :o I was afraid the glass was breaking! I will be lucky to get that thing to CarMax in once piece! It has been such a great car up until the last year or so. It has seen better days! And it hasn't even hit 100K miles yet. Just lots of quirky things like door locks, windshield wipers, now the window.

Gotta get to bed. I have a dr appt at 8am tomorrow!
