Juneteenth (June 20th)

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Juneteenth (June 20th)

Postby Colliemom » Wed Jun 19, 2024 8:07 am

Another hot day here at the 45th. However, it hasn’t been too bad as humidity isn’t high. Dewpoints are in mid 60’s,, so that makes it feel humid. We were under cloud cover most of yesterday, so that kept the hot sun out most of the day. Keep Hoping for rain, but keeps popping up elsewhere.

I was sorry to hear about Doc too. I never met them, but always enjoyed Lori’s morning “imaginary” breakfasts. French toast, Orange muffins etc. and reading about their adventures. My condolences to her and the family. Like the rest of you, I miss those who no longer post. Wish some would come back.

Errand running this morning and also browsing for a few things. Then will water the flowers as well. Good breeze out there again today.
Was going to swing by Credit Union, but they will be closed for Juneteenth as will the Post Office, so no mail today. Not expecting anything anyway.

So, that’s about it from here today. Have a good one.

We can only miss people if we don't keep up with them and they don't keep contact with us. Just because people are not posting on this forum doesn't mean that they are gone from our lives. We all get to make choices with our time, our emotions, our energy, or how to share our lives, and those aren't necessarily a right or wrong choice. Our ability to stay connected is as diverse as we ourselves are and this forum is just one historic point in time.....

Good morning gals!

Yesterday I was the Energizer Bunny!! Got up early and worked outside most of the day. I was very careful this time tho and came inside every 10 minutes or so for water, rest and cooling off.

The nasty winds the past few nights undid all my clean-up on the deck, patio, and driveway! So I had to blow off, hose off, and clean up everything all over again. Also cleaned the porch. It all looks nice again and didn't have any big winds overnight. Last night I gassed up my car for the weekend and picked up a Pizza from Cesars.

My muscles hurt today all over. I still need to clean up my bedroom, get my car washed, and get to my Dr appt this afternoon for a follow-up on my back injection last month.

Oh, and I invited the guy down the street, who's CFO is looking to buy a place here, to stop by yesterday and take a look at my place so he can tell her what it looks like in person. He loved the big porch! And the unique layout of my place. No one has seen another park model with my layout and he thought it was really nice. So hopefully the gal will be interested enough to come and check it out.

I remember Lori and Doc too. I never met them but she seemed so nice from her posts on here. Am sorry to hear about Doc.

And yes, Aloe is wonderful stuff, especially on burns! Heals things up really quickly! I used it on my ant stings and they are almost healed up already. Two are completely healed up and the other two are getting there.

I better get my energizer butt out of bed and get moving here!
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Good afternoon to all. Well I finally bit the bullet and hired an RV instructor to teach me how to drive the RV. That's right in all the years we've been RVing, I've never driven it. Now that Bill no longer has a license, I decided I try to learn. At 85 I wasn't sure I could do it. But after two days of instruction I did it. I know for all of you driving them for years I probably sound like a wimp. Yep I was and still kind of am. But will give it a try on a short trip. But still haven't driven it with the car attached. So we'll see about that later. Wrote about it in the blog. http://travelinginrvandlivinginlasvegas.blogspot.com/
And that is my big news for the last couple of days.
Now I need a nap.

Carol, just read your blog and saw your photos. You did very well for the first trip. One tip to avoid curbs is to put your right mirror down just a bit so you can see the rear tires as you go around a corner. In fact, I keep the right mirror lever set on the right side, so I can reach without looking and drop the mirror even a bit more as I go around a corner. And you even drove right past Willow Beach Marina, so next time, you could pull in and check it out.

And VERY good decision not to let your husband or son teach you to drive!!! I rode with my 16-year-old granddaughter yesterday afternoon. She has had 3 months of driving experience after she got her official license, and she loves to drive and has her own car, but she does not slow down early enough at stop signs and lights. It had rained a bit, and she managed to stop at one stop sign, but then accelerated too fast to get moving and skidded a bit. She thought something was wrong with her car!!! I told her NOPE, she needed to take it easier on the accelerator and the brakes!!! Told her dad that maybe he should install dash cams on both her and her brother's cars so he can monitor their driving. (Remember that he crashed his dad's Tesla last winter?) After discussing the issues with oil on roadways after brief rains with her, I don't think she really believed me or her dad, who told her same thing. UGH, and I thought I was done with teenagers after raising my own!! I think I will be safer flying with my 19 year old grandson as a pilot, as he is MUCH more careful than these two in Ohio. :o

I did grocery shopping for a few things today and was going to do laundry. Ohio state parks have washers and dryers in their washrooms, but the one for this state park is too long a walk and with the heat, I decided I did not even want to sit in my rig with my generator and AC going. So, going to wash out a couple of bras and a few pairs of undies to last me a few days. Got enough shorts and t-shirts to last a while.

Carol, “you go girl”. Don’t park that tv and wait too long before you get behind the wheel again. You did so well go by yourself on a lon stretch of road less traveled. Your first rv trip tell Bill to lay on the bed and rest while you drive. Wish I could ride with you lol (( hugs))

You go Carol! Good job. I agree that you should get out, even for short drives, fairly often. Your confidence will just continue to grow.

wow Carol impressive :o as they said get out and keep on practicing .... a short drive although won't get you out of the heat would be Valley of Fire
Martha it was much warmer today.... didn't look at temp but it was I'm sure in the high 60's maybe even into the low 70's and it's suppose to be 13 degree's warmer tomorrow... I can like that ... 8-)
dd came over with my grandson's brother in law and his family... the plan is for their son to move into a bedroom in the basement as he lives in Idaho and works at the airport so they came to clean up the area they cleaned the bedroom and the bathroom then will empty up the pantry don't know how long some food has been there.... but it all needs to go... then hopefully will be able to use that area for storage so he can use the family room which right now is full of storage bins that way we have an able body young man around for the times one needs a strong able body young man .... and it relives some concerns both of mine and my daughters... right now isn't the time when one wants to have a knee replacement I think at this time they wouldn't anyway due to my weight so need to attack that someday so if or when they recommend it I can do so... although right now with taking care of mom it's something that I wouldn't even consider
did get some of the plants planted.... more tomorrow I only got 2 yellow petunia's need to get one more to fit with the other wave petunia's I'd still like to find some (can''t even dream of spelling the name...) but I think they have a nickname of Pink's??? I maybe wrong but the petals look like they have been cut out with pinking shears... I put one planter together have a spot that needs something not sure what didn't realize that I got a perennial and it gets too cold here for it so if I'm here for the winter it will have to come inside if I go to Q it will go with me... it has a real unusual scent but I'm not sure if I have a compatible plant water wise to go with it.. will have to look might need to find one when I go back to get the yellow petunia and fuchsias. anyway my day is planned for tomorrow more of the same
and tomorrow is when the aid comes as well as the nurse...
I'm not planning of going to the nursery until Friday hopefully by then I'll have all the plants planted and if I need a few more can get them then...
had macaroni salad and sandwich middle of afternoon so was full enough that I didn't fix a proper meal made popcorn... sometimes that hits the spot...
courting a cold and it's winning
you all have a great day

I remember planting pinks! I just looked it up and it is also called dianthus. Remember it as a very pretty flower.

Yea for Carol!,, a big decision and you are doing the right thing by getting an official instructor. Yes, I agree, many short frequent trips will be easier than a long one now! Good luck and have FUN! Lyn

Congratulations Carol! We are a determined lot! And you are right Sheila about dropping some weight before knee surgery. And knee surgery may be a way out but weight comes off slowly so it is good to plan ahead and start now....I am sure your overall health will appreciate it. It takes a lot of determination to keep moving on our legs, too! You can do it.

Sheila, I agree with Tina. Also when I go to the Wellness Center there are many people who are doing leg strengthening exercises before thier knee replacement surgery. Good muscle strength in both legs will speed up the healing process and mobility after surgery. You need to take care of yourself too.
My mind works like lightning...one brilliant flash and it's gone.

Sue, I left your Wed opener for a 2nd day because your heading was perfect for it. I didn't notice the date didn't match until today. That's something I would expect from me who never knows what day it is anymore.

Nothing exciting here today. Emptied my water holding tank on the RV. Refilled, but will empty it again in a few days because I didn't have any bleach and I want to clean it. My bleach must have been left at the TT. Or I used it all. No biggie.

I don't remember what I meant to comment on, so might have to reread everything later.

I was confused for a bit until I read Beth's post for awhile I thought no one had started a page for today... I didn't even pay attention to the actual date so since today is the 20th that works...
I didn't go fast enough and that cold caught up with me.... so haven't done a lot today and it feels like a busy day anyway... the aide comes at 1 and then the nurse comes at 3 although she is quite often late... was going to plant plants but just didn't feel up to it....after the aide left I took a half hour nap dd#4 called we have played phone tag all week... but her son was not letting us talk.... what is it that when mom gets on the phone that is when the littles get chatty? so we finally gave it up that is when I took my nap after the nurse left I read scriptures... hopefully the plants will be ok till tomorrow and I can get them planted hopefully.... if not I diffidently need to water them....
bought a kit for a slow cooked roast has potatoes carrots and onion in it hopefully a roast  even thought I don't have a slow cooker or a instapot I thought if I just put it in a covered dish at a very low temp for 3 hours or so it should be ok ...that didn't happen either need to tomorrow though
I don't know what happened normally I am posting after 11 but her it is just 10 not sure what I didn't do
perhaps I'll go to my room at 11 might even turn the light out earlier
you all have a great day
