Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Friday, May 17

Good morning ladies. It’s another gray day for me with thunderstorms forecasted for later today into tomorrow. I keep wondering if we’ll ever get a few days in a row without rain. At least the temperatures are up so that makes it more bearable. Sue, sorry about your accident but glad you’re okay. Reminded me of all the hoops I had to jump through when the gal rear ended me a while back. Anita, glad your daughter’s tests are good and you can go on your train trip with an easier mind. I need to make a couple of phone calls today to set up a time to get my rv inspected for the state. Should have scheduled it before since it expires this month. But if I have to go into June it’ll be okay since I don’t have any plans to travel any time soon. Yesterday I finally managed to stuff a bunch of bags of leaves and yard debris into the car and finally got them to the dump. They are making mulch for the residents of town to have. Just have to load yourself at no cost. This is when I wish I still had a truck. I finally got the couple of bags dropped off at Goodwill too. So poor Buddy was having to share the backseat with them. We do go for a nice walk out at the project after I dumped the yard bags. He knew where we were and was impatient for me to get him out for his walk! He has no patience when we’re out there! So that’s about all that’s going on here. Same thing just different day. Hope you all have a good day.

Good afternoon!

Rain supposedly on the way. Still trying to get cat smell out of the Sling, just didn't get it all first time around. Will put the barriers, cayenne pepper, etc. on later along with the full cover. What a pain!

Sharon, I get a kick out of dogs and their impatience! So smart to know what's coming. I just watched a video of a man who had been in the hospital for some time and lost weight. When he got home, the dog didn't recognize him and was not getting near him. Finally, someone got the dog close to the man so he could smell him and the dog went nuts! Beth, enjoyed your FB photos! Always makes me realize how long ago I visited some of these places. Tombstone was probably 2000!

Sheila, sorry to hear about your granddaughter's fall and break! Regarding my train trip. I bought an Amtrak $500 rail pass that allows me 10 stops in 30 days. Not getting a sleeper - daughter says I sleep in my chair anyway plus I spend enough time alone so can people watch, etc. Going to Washington, D.C. with a change of trains in Chicago. Will rent a car in D.C. and go on to Maggie Valley, North Carolina, for the big Sling event. Plan is to stop in Kansas on my home. I leave Tuesday evening and daughter should get bone biopsy results back Wednesday if not sooner (which would be ideal). If needed, I can always turn around and come back.

Going to get the laundry done and then I can pack. :) Hoping everyone in the paths of these storms are safe!

Good afternoon Sharon, Anita and all who read or follow.

They lowered the high for today from 90 to 89. Have me a chuckle. It looks like highs of 90 plus all week. Overnights still getting into the 50's, so I'm ok with it. Longest walk of the day is morning because I don't do long walks in the dark.

I'm trying to use up products in my cabinets so I went into the Walmart app where they have recipes with ingredients to add to your shopping cart. I found one that is cheap per serving and even more so because I have about 1/2 the ingredients. So I've added the others to my cart for my next order. This'll use up my pizza sauce and some other things. I'll have to make a list and try doing this with other things sitting in wait. And, yes, I could use recipes I already have, but this was more fun, doing something in a different way. I did a load of laundry and have my hot water cooling a bit for a shower. Dinner will be leftovers from my lunch in Tombstone yesterday. Barbie, b you connected on my FB post that there prices are reasonable. Yes, they are and I'm getting two complete meals. Anita, l I've thought about doing one of those train trips, but as long as I have Ty I don't see it happening. Enjoy.

Beth, as I get older, I really hate throwing away food!! It is really hard, as you know, when you live alone to avoid leftovers, but this week I am tossing some stuff that I just did not want to eat. I had bought a melon and it was super sweet, but mushy, and i let it sit around, so out it goes today.

And I do get tired of my own cooking, so yesterday I had some takeout and today I happened to stop at a rest area on the Ohio Turnpike with a Jimmy Johns, so bought a sandwich and had half for lunch and half now. I am going to also have some blueberries that I forgot about.

I spent the night in the RV parking area of the Turnpike. They have electric hookups and a water fill and dump station, plus it is away from the trucks. There were three other RVs there for the night. Only $20, and even though I already had a spot at this state park, it was too long of a drive after two mornings of having getting up at 5:30 am for the service people to start work. I was done yesterday at noon, but had to return something to ACE hardware, so was really ready to stop for the night by 4 pm. Got a good night's sleep, and drove 160 miles to campsite today.

Judy, I do try to reuse my leftovers but sometimes you have to let go. I'm glad you stopped at the Ohio rest area. I wish more states had reasonable stops like those. And I agree, better you get off the road and get a good night's sleep.

The storm hit last night and my electricity went out about 9:30 and didn't come back on until 8:15 this morning. I was getting ready to go look for some extension cords so I could start the generator in the motorhome and plug in the refrigerator and freezer when the power came on. It got noisy with the storm. Luna is afraid of thunder so we had to sit in the small bathroom during the worst of it. It was scary. I'm sure glad I wasn't in a camper. The power was out at the campground this afternoon and I haven't heard if they ever got it back. There are pictures on Facebook taken at a campground in New Orleans. I think all the campers there got blown over. It's right next to a canal and close to the lake. It just started raining. There are suppose to be storms coming through again tonight between midnight and 3 am.

Sue, sorry about your truck but glad you weren't hurt.

Judy, hope you got most of your problems fixed. I hate to throw food away. I wasn't raised to throw food away and always think about what my dad would have said. I get tired of my cooking and don't like to make a recipe of something I will have to eat for a while. I always try to freeze leftovers in single servings. I wish more places had inexpensive camp sites along main roads. I have heard one of the truck stops is putting in sites. There use to be a couple of motels close to Dallas that had some campsites but haven't been up that way in a long time. It looks like more motes could put in a few sites.

Inky is doing a little better. He's not crazy about the food the vet wants him to eat.

Martha it's Loves doing that. They are asking as much and more than RV parks! The first I've I saw I looked up and they wanted $55 for a back in site. I'd be hard pressed to pay that much at a CG.

Beth, I agree, $55 is a bit much for a parking lot. I'm use to paying half price at the state parks with a senior discount. The resort type campgrounds are out of sight. If you want to camp with friends you have pay extra for them to guarantee a certain site. Some of the clubs I belong to could have 30 to 40 campers but they don't want to work with a group. Guess they don't need our business.

Staying at the Turnpike rest area broke my drive from 270 miles (including some shopping driving the second day) to one day of 115 miles when I was exhausted and a second day of 155 miles. I've also used those stops to break up a 4.5 hour drive from his house to the campground I used south of Detroit. That means I can leave late in the afternoon, drive 1-2 hours, spent the night, then finish the drive the next day. As I am getting older, that really helps. It also gives me more time with the kids. I mentioned what I was going to do with some of the people at the REV Fleetwood service place, and several mentioned that it would make you feel less guilty than taking up a space all night in the truck area. Trucks do drive by, but I had a good night's sleep and barely heard them. Max size of rigs on newer pull-through sites was 40', but older back-ins at older rest areas would be closer to 30' and electric does not always work.

I did stay at a Love's in Georgia and paid $55. It was expensive but there was nothing near Andersonville that I wanted to stay at, and I wanted to give Love's a try. It was full hookup, but sites were very close together. They had picnic tables and fire pits behind them, plus you could tell they were trying to justify the price by including pickle ball, a dog park, laundry, and a splash pad, but I did not see any water running in the splash pad, and none of the other extra facilities were being used. I would not spend that money again, unless I was really desperate for a place to stay. Also, it was a little noisy, though not as noisy as staying directly in the truck area. (It was in a separate area with a fence dividing the two areas, though frankly a 6' high wooden fence does NOT do a good job of blocking noise!) Will post some photos I took of Love's site tomorrow on my blog. (Gas was only $3.19 a gallon, so that paid for part of my stay, I guess.)

One interesting thing I did find at Love's near the campground area, but not inside it, was a little building which was a dog wash!!! Did not take photo, unfortunately. Anybody else ever seen one of these?

Generally, I look for COE parks, then state parks, and sometimes county parks, in that order. I get a 50% discount in Ohio on weekdays and 10% on weekends.
