Spring Like Tuesday

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Spring Like Tuesday

Postby Colliemom » Tue Feb 14, 2023 8:57 am

Good Morning. Sun is coming up here at the 45th. Temps heading into 50’s today and tomorrow. That’s over 20°above normal. By Thursday and Friday it’s back into the 20’s and then we go back to around 40. March 1st is the first day of Meteorological Spring and the season is definitely transitioning. Some rain moving in tonight.

Trip to Petoskey was a mixed bag of success. Didn’t find what I wanted at Hobby Lobby, but got some craft paint. Stopped at the Walmart there and found a plastic picture frame of the size I wanted, so grabbed that. I was looking for either a 9 x 12 or a 10 x 13 and I found a 10 x 13. It’s the glass I’m after. I wanted the acrylic, not regular glass. So for $5 I thought that would work perfectly. So I am going to incorporate it into the design of my shadow box. That is going to be today’s project. Since the weather is going to be so mild, I think I might cut out a couple of more bird patterns in the garage. And I might clean the inside of my truck.

Velda, I’m about 70 miles from Lake Huron. The object was shot down about 15 miles east of the Upper Peninsula, so that’s at least 100 miles from here. They think it may have drifted into Canadian waters. So from what I understand the coast guard is looking for the debris. It was flying out about 20,000 feet as compared to the Chinese balloon that was up at 40,000. They say that it had no kinetic military threat, but it’s height poised a threat to aircraft.

There was an accident up in town around noon yesterday and one of the vehicles that was involved hit a support wire for a power pole and bent the pole, snapping the power lines. That in turn knocked out the power to the traffic lights and businesses in the area there, until about 7 o’clock last night. That area includes the majority of our restaurants, Walmart and adjoining businesses in that strip mall, as well as Lowe’s, Home Depot and the majority of our businesses in the industrial park area. Haven’t heard what caused the accident. The weather was OK.

And now this morning I sit here listening to a police conference on the shooting at Michigan State University. 3 students killed and 5 in critical condition. The shooter was a 43 yea old man, but he is dead as well. Apparently shot himself. This will affect affect many communities within the state, including ours. Classes are canceled until next Monday.

We lost a community member here last week to a tragedy as well. A 32 year old man from Gaylord was ice climbing at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore when he was knocked off an icy ledge by a wave and fell into Lake Superior. The lake is not frozen up there this year although there is ice floating around in the water down there. After very intensive search by National Park Service and Coast Guard personnel the search was called off due to darkness and weather conditions. They made another attempt the next day but could not locate the body. So the search was suspended. This past Sunday the weather conditions were very favorable So they decided to try again and this time they did locate him. Lake superior is extremely cold. Except for the shallow bays and harbors around the Shoreline, you can’t really go swimming in the lake. You can get hypothermia in a matter of minutes. He was taking part in an annual ice climbing festival that is held up there every year. He was married but no children.

So, enough tragedy for this week. Time for me to go and take a shower and get my day moving along here. I wanna run the vacuum before I get into my shadow box project. Have a great day everyone. :D

Sue so sad about the man in the lake and sadder still about the shootings. I saw news on that last night and didn't read it all as it was too much for my brain just before bed.

I intended to be on the road early but the wind is horrendous. It's supposed to be lessening by late morning so I'm waiting. It woke me up a few times last night. Heck, I haven't gotten out of bed because I don't want to walk Ty. I will soon.

Judy, I understand about weight. I have a little more also because I don't have any slides. Those are quite weighty. I use the plastic orange camco blocks. When I started I used wood until I realized the weight. I like being earth friendly but sometimes it doesn't work. At least I've been using the same ones for probably 15 years.

Well no spring like weather here. In fact we are covered in snow. They said temps would be down to 17.............NOT we are 33 so I know the snow wont last too long down here in the valley. I live in the "banana belt" so when they said we would get snow I highly doubted it. It is pretty out there but it should be gone later this morning. We only have an inch or so, so no big deal. I am not going out in it regardless. Emma went bounding out this morning and came to an abrupt halt at the end of the steps. She then went to the other end of the deck to go out but decided she would go out in it from there. She wandered around for a bit, did her business and then was ready to come in.

Safe travels later Beth. You are wise to wait. I wouldnt drive in the wind either if I didnt have to. I dont mind the cold so much, or the rain, but I absolutely hate wind. I am snuggled in my recliner with my heated throw, life is good.

Good morning everyone! Happy Valentines Day! No plans here, other than Sean will be here to continue with the fence. It's sunny and just reached 50° again. Winter is too short here and no rain in sight!
Sue, according to CNN, the Alaska object was at 40,000 feet when shot down. The Huron object was at 20,000 feet. The Yukon object was at 40,000 feet. The large balloon shot down was between 60,000 amd 65,000 feet. This all seems very strange, but I've been watching reports. I was just curious how close to you, the Huron area was. And I certainly thought of you and your state last night as the shooting reports came in live. Such a scary time we live in.
Have a good day! I wish we would see a bit of snow! We have a few times over 35 years here!

Happy Valentines Day! Yesterday was my mom's birthday. She would have been 99. Sure still miss her!

I did OK with putters golf this morning in spite of the windy conditions. Was close to 70* so was very comfortable.

I found out that, in just the past 6 weeks, there have been 20 park models sold here in the park, and there currently are 6 more in escrow. Doesn't sound like a slow time, to me!

My knee is sore still so I will put something on it and rest it for a bit before heading to work. Just a 4 hour day today so that is good. Then the next 2 days off.

Have a good day. :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

It's still 70 here and lightly raining off and on. The wind has picked up some but not bad. I don't see that there are any really bad storms in the line of weather that is coming through.

I went to Walmart and hope I have everything I need for my trip. I got some cheese crackers to put in the car and motorhome so I don't have more dizzy spells from not eating. If I'm headed to Lafayette and in a hurry I won't drink because I will have to find a bathroom on the way. That's probably not good either.

Beth, hope the wind died down and you could get on the road. There was a post on the Facebook page for the Hangout that they were putting up a tent for us to meet in. I looked at the website for the campground the other day and it says they have a meeting room so don't know why they are putting up a tent. A tent is not going to be great if it's cold and wet. I have turned into a fair weather camper. lol

There was a cartoon on Facebook that showed the kind of balloons that you ride in with a sign that said balloon rides have been cancelled. I thought that was funny since they are shooting balloons down.

I did good by waiting. Not a bad drive. Martha, I figure you and I can figure out what we want to do. I pissed off some on the FB page when I said if it's not raining the night of the lighted boat parade, I'll not be at the planned dinner. I can eat anywhere, but really want to go to the lighted boat parade! I've got my car, so we can be flexible. It does seem strange that they are putting up a tent when there's an available room. Like planning a dinner at the time of the boat parade. And it's a dinner we pay extra for so no biggie. I'm at a Harvest Host winery tonight. They have dry Moscato and sparkling Moscato. I bought each. But no sweet Moscato. Maybe the sparkling would be good for us to toast. I didn't buy it for the group. Dang, I'm getting mean lol I did have alligator egg rolls. Very good.

Glad you had a good drive Beth. Makes traveling so much better and relaxing rather than fighting the steering wheel. Our snow event was over this morning, only some residual snow in my front yard. No big deal. We ended up with 1 3/4" so they say. I think it was just an inch but think I am just as good as the weather people. They said our temp would be 17 this morning ha ha ha 33 when I took Emma out. They say upper 20's, we shall see.

Going to be ambitious tomorrow. Shampoo part of my carpeting. I can only do half a house at a time LOL I really want to do my windows but it is just too darn cold. I like to do inside and outside at the same time but guess that will have to wait.

Finished a light dinner as I wasnt real hungry and now time to sit and relax.

I don't drive in the wind either.... will wait it out was caught in Needles for 3 days because of the wind... if it's over 15 mph I do hesitate...
it does sound like Barbi you are getting the run around... I am not sure what to suggest other than what was suggested...
recreated the hamburger strogonoff as a topping for baked potatoes... it was so good...roasted some carrots in the A/F don't think mom was wild about them as she took what was left then only ate about 3 if she had left it in the bowl I'd finished it off... she does that almost always gets more than she will eat all though she did finish off the stroganoff tonight the other day nope... breakfast she will take 3 spoonfuls of oatmeal and leave 1/2 of it... so aggravating
we had snow today but not a lot you got more than we did Karen
think my sister was suppose to get back to her home today ...
have a great rally Beth and Martha
I finally did something that I have been going to do for such a long time you know those things that every time you look at it you say I need to but it's gone till the next time you look at it i finally did it
you all have a great day

Beth, do you have rear dually wheels? If so, what plastic thingies do you use? The biggest I see is 17" wide, but I don't think my tires will fit on those even sideways. I am also concerned about the weight limits--my rig weighs 14.800 pounds. I used the smaller plastic blocks when I first got my rig, but it took too many and they slid around. I gave up after I lost several in soft ground once. They shot out when I moved my rig and just buried themselves, so I gave up digging around for them because it was cold and rainy. I wish they made blocks that were more like 22" or 24" wide, and overall heavier duty. The boards usually last at least a couple of years and cost only about $2 each. I buy an 8' long 2 x 10, and have it cut into four two-foot long lengths. And, frankly, I only use them about 15% of the time because most sites are level enough.

Just checked online. My tires are 8.86" wide each, with two inches between them, which means when they are connected together, they are almost 20" wide.

Heading out tomorrow for an oil change, and then will probably stop on my way and get a propane fill. Will get groceries on my way to Phoenix on Thursday. Still eating my way through what I have already!!

FYI - I-10 is still closed on the southwestern edge of Tucson after a tanker containing nitric acid overturned this afternoon. Did not affect me, luckily, but they sent out warnings for people within a mile away to not go outside and to turn off fans or AC units that pulled in outside air.

Ha! To springlike!!! It rained a little earlier, but now it is snowing in Tucson!! I wondered why I could not get any satellite signals after the noise of the rain stopped. That is because snow is quiet.

At 2 am temp is 32 but supposed to drop to 29 by morning. Brrrrr

Judy, I sent them with the new owners that bought my Thor Vegas but, wandering through Camping World one day I saw and purchased a set of yellow lego blocks that were double wide (rectangles) that fit in front and across both dually wheels. They made leveling up back wheels so much easier. And if not needed for the back wheels they made leveling up a front wheel a piece of cake. I didn't have to worry about the wheels being a couple of degrees off....they still had plenty of block to land on.
