One of my biggest concerns is health care. I don't qualify for Medicare for 3 more years. I have ACA here in CA and it is free, including emergency care out of state. I am not sure I can get health insurance like that in other states. I am thinking it is worth keeping my residency here in CA, at least for now. I am not sure I will be on the road for more than a year anyways before I find a place to settle down again. Will have to see how things go.

I had a non-hookup site for the Escapade but decided I really need at least an electric hookup in case it is warm and I need to run the AC for Romeow. I will be away from the camper for most of each day so I don't want to worry about him, so I called and was able to upgrade to an electric/water site for a reasonable cost for the whole week.

Evie, I would not feel comfortable pulling a 5th wheel, plus I couldn't afford a truck and 5th wheel anyways. I did the trailer thing before but with my shoulder issues it was literally a pain to hitch and unhitch. And towIng made me nervous and stressed. I think a small 23 or 24 ft C will be a good fit for me this time. I can get in and out of places easier with that size. I think I will wait to see if I need a toad before I commit to the expense and extra work of having one.

I am now looking into getting mobile internet. Any thoughts? I need to keep it affordable and I don't plan to use my laptop for much other than just reading emails and FB and on here. I have a tracfone prepaid cell phone that I think I can get a hot spot on but need to check on that. I have seen on YouTube about various wifi modems for hot spots too. I don't know much about them and of course, being tech challenged as I am, I need something that is pretty much "plug and play".

If you get a regular Verizon cell phone, you will have a certain amount of data for internet. You might want to try to get a used phone instead of an expensive new one. I also once bought a used mobile hotspot on eBay, but I would not trust getting a cell phone on that.

And insurance is really critical, so you need to research that and maybe delay putting your house on sale. I knew someone who bought a new Class C and a toad and then got sick. She was paying a horrible amount for insurance because she was not old enough for medicare. She ended up having to quit full-timing when she had to go on oxygen and could not travel over 3,000' in elevation. Had to have electric to run oxygen concentrator so could no longer boondock.

Will your ACA insurance cover you out of state? Or can you get new ACA insurance in another state?? Might want to post questions about that or other available insurance on another forum, such as Escapees or RvForum.net. Or could call your provider and tell them you are thinking of moving to South Dakota and wondering if you could transfer it there.

If you could find a paid work camping job, that might help you afford insurance.

Also, I have managed without a toad for over 10 years, so it can be done!!

My insurance will cover me for emergencies out of state. My ACA insurance provider is local to this area so not able to transfer elsewhere.

I read that Florida is the only state that offers full-time RVers insurance that can be used anywhere in the country.

I highly recommend you get a phone with Visible service. They use Verizon and for $25/month I have unlimited good data. I can stream with it, etc. Best change I made.

If you won't have an address in California you might not be able to keep your residency there. Double and triple check that.

Beth, what phone is that? Where do I get one? Can I transfer my number?

There is a mail service called Post Scan Mail that has a location here in Indio that I can get an address with and they send photos of the mail and if you want they open it and show you what is inside, and then will send it to where ever you want. It is only $10 per month.

You probably can keep the phone you have. And yes you can keep your number. Use this and you can get a discount when you sign with them.

Check out this page: https://www.visible.com/get/?3qwQpq, it has all the info you need to know about joining Visible. When you use my friend code, 3qwQpq, you’ll get your first month of service for $20-off!

Thanks! I just bought a phone (5G) and signed up with your code! My phone only has 16GB and the new phone has 64GB! I also got a $50 credit off the phone for transferring my phone number. I didn't like Total Wireless anyways and this is actually cheaper than them.

One more thing off my list...

I just want to add that I was in the Escapees for many years and I loved that organization. Got some real good advice, and the people are very nice. Mostly friendly to single woman. Lyn

I've been very happy that I discovered this. It's the best phone plan I've had and the least expensive.
