Santorini, Greece

Santorini is one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea and known in ancient times as Thira. It was devastated by a volcanic eruption in the 16th century BC, forever shaping its rugged landscape. The whitewashed, cubiform houses of its 2 principal towns, Fira and Oia, cling to cliffs above an underwater caldera (crater). This is where the “Epic” portion of the trip (as my daughter described it) began. She managed to obtain reservations using her points (therefore no charge) for us in a hotel voted recently as the best in all of Greece. Neither one of us has ever stayed in such a nice hotel with such beautiful amenities and services. They even upgraded our reservation to 2-bedrooms, 2-baths. We have our own jacuzzi.

Definitely EPIC !! It's like a dream I can't even imagine experiencing all the places you have seen. I've read so many books that have been written about the areas you are visiting and wished I could go. Keep enjoying! it is great your daughter found this place.

Many historians believe that the eruption of Thera (the still-active volcano of Santorini) which destroyed the ancient Minoan civilization, was the origin of the Atlantis story.

Beautiful, Sandi. Thanks for sharing.

Santorini is incredible! I spent a day there on a cruise in the Eastern Mediterranean with a friend. You are very lucky to spend four whole days there!! Would you believe that after we took a tour of the ruins at Akrotiri, that my friend headed back to the ship to watch videos??? I stayed in Oia and wandered around all afternoon, plus did some shopping, and had a lovely lunch with some other ship passengers.

Never could understand that friend of mine. She spent a lot of time in the cabin while I was always out on deck watching the scenery. I would have loved to have spent much more time in Santorini, so I am envious of you, especially at your fabulous hotel and pool!
