Wednesday August 31

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Wednesday August 31

Morning All, yesterday did not improve. The internet went down yesterday evening because the fiber cable for my IP was cut in Virginia. No internet in Virginia, Maryland and Delaware. #2 daughter has satellite tv but her power went out because of t-storms that moved through. Family was using their cell phones but I don’t enjoy trying to read on the little phone screen. It was like the day had a hex on it. But it is a new day and we will have low humidity and dew point so I will be able open windows and doors. Yah! Have several bags and boxes for the thrift store so will be a good day for that chore. Hope everyone has a good day, be safe

The End of August

Postby Colliemom » Wed Aug 31, 2022 8:21 am

Good Morning from the 45th. Sun is up in a nice blue sky. The past two dsys of clouds and scattered rain showers has moved on. Supposed to be around 68 to 70° Today, but big warm up starting tomorrow. Tomorrow is the first Day of meteorological fall. We humans say Fall begins Sept. 21, but Mom Nature is already starting fall way before that. I was thinking yesterday how much is starting to feel like fall around here. The nights are getting cooler, some of the plants and flowers are starting to die off now, Gardening season is going to be wrapping up before long, the days are definitely getting shorter and cooler, little by little. We only made it to around 70° yesterday. Sweatshirt weather.

Took Miss Molly to the vet yesterday as she has been limping on her front left leg, plus ear looks irritated. She has arthritis in the elbow and turns out she has infection is both ears. Suspected it in the, one but never did on the other. So I have some antibiotic drops to put in them for the next 10 days and also a supplement for the arthritis condition.

BJ, glad you are getting a new computer. One doesn’t want an outdated, not able to be updated version these days. Too dangerous with all the hackers out there. My computer is operating on windows 8.1and that is going to be unsupported in January of next year. I like you have an older computer and it cannot be updated any more plus already had a couple of repairs,, so I don’t wanna put any more money into it. I love my iPad so much that I rarely even use a computer anymore. It wasn’t for the fact that my printer is not compatible with Apple devices, I probably would never use my computer. Although I do for Genealogy work which I am not doing right now. But I do not store stuff on it except maybe some pictures. So I will probably be computer hunting at the end of the year. This iPad’s battery is starting to wear down too, so that may be something else that’s going to need to be replaced. As for my printer, I rarely print anything, so that is in good shape. And out of a mile long list of Canon printers that are compatible with Apple mine is not.

I guess I had better get moving here. I have had some zucchini sitting here on the counter and I need to shred it up and make a couple of chelate zucchini cakes. Then I will go outside later and start getting my railings and my new step area ready for painting tomorrow if the forecast looks okay. Want to get that project done. Have a few spots on the house foundation that need a paintbrush run over them too.

Have a wonderful day all :)

Good morning, 58 and cloudy right now but will have a high of 93 so I will take it!!! Will be going to the grocery store here soon. Nothing else on my agenda for today other than to make something for dinner.

Quick healing for Sheila as she posted she is in the hospital with bronchitis. Hope she heals quickly. She has her cruise scheduled for 2 weeks so lets hope she is better by then.

Fall? What Fall? Sue, Sue. . . at this point in summer I can't even imagine a cool breeze - although your descriptions sound wonderful.

No Fall here, of course, maybe not for several more months. . . if at all. As for plants and flowers dying off. . . my garden veggie plants are pretty much goners. They can't take the "Fall" heat, even with extra (and probably illegal. . .shhhh!) watering.

Here is the predicted weather for the next ten days here at my house (and temps at my house are usually warmer by a degree or two than the predictions):

Wednesday 101
Thursday 106
Friday 105
Saturday 105
Sunday 108
Monday 111
Tuesday 110
Wednesday 105
Thursday 102
Friday 97 (a definite cool-down - a chill in the air!)

Welcome to September.

All that is needed stirred into this volatile mix are our annual autumn winds. It is "wildfire time of year".

And the millions of California/west coast people that live in wildfire-prone areas now begin (again) to collectively hold their breaths. Wondering if they are "next".

Welcome to Autumn in the West. :?

OH! SUE!!!

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Hrm. . . where did I put my tissues?

Dang. Just checked on Google to see how long it would take me to drive from my north-of-Sacramento home to Gaylord, MI.

Hrm. 35 hours - about 2500 miles, one-way. Unfortunately, at the moment, I'm just not up to that kind of drive. :(

Lucky you! Otherwise, you would likely find me on your doorstep by, like, tomorrow. . .

Have again started actively checking the listings for Klamath Falls (Oregon). KF is about 15 degrees cooler than it is here on any given day, and only about 6 - 8 hours drive from where I live now.

Do-able.

Now waiting for real estate prices to, hopefully, soften a bit more. Recent articles in the news about a potentially major California flood in the not-too-distant-future has kind of re-lit the fire (among other things).

"A disastrous megaflood is coming to California, experts say, and it could be the most expensive natural disaster in history"

https://www.kcra.com/article/megaflood-california-most-expensive-natural-disaster/40888657

There was a major flood in my town many years ago (I live only about a mile from the Feather River). Many people died in this flood - not a fun thought.

As Karen always says, "We'll see". 8-)

Thanks, Sue. You made my day.

BJ, I don't like to use a laptop computer so I have my Apple laptop connected to a large monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse. My son had set it up like this and I have managed to keep it working.

We finally had a day with no rain yesterday and maybe today. I got more of the hill mowed. I haven't seen the truck that sprays for mosquitoes pass in a while and the mosquitoes are terrible. My legs are itching from the bites I got yesterday. I finally came in and got some spray.

I talked myself out of going to town yesterday but will probably go later. Sugar is almost out of food and I don't want to let it get too low in case I have to go to more than one store to find it. I found a new way to get her to take her pills. Cesar's has a dog food that comes in little trays. I slice a thin slice of the soft food and wrap it around the pill. It goes down so fast she doesn't know there is a pill in it. She won't even eat one of the pill pockets without a pill.

Sue, my neighbors are headed to your area in a few days on one of the bus tours. Wish I could join them but I can't be gone for two weeks and they are the ones that feed for me when I'm gone.

Good Morning, our hi today will be 79, with low of 70
Sheila, so sorry to hear of you being in the hospital. I hope they can fix you up and get you out of there.
I am going to go to the store today. Need some red lentils to make Greek Red Lentil Soup.
And my house keeper wants black Lysol toilet bowl cleaner. I’ve never heard of it.

Today started out pretty bad, but ended up pretty good! I was in San Clemente SP dropping some things I brought from the lawyers in Florida off to my co-POA. Did that yesterday and had a nice lunch together and went through jewelry and coins. She is putting them in Safety deposit box.

So today, I decided to take I-5 straight north to Napa, staying overnight tonight about halfway there. First bad thing was driving through LA. Do I need to say more?? Have to add that CA drivers in the big cities don't merge, they just refuse to slow down or speed up and just honk at you if you are in their way. :x

Got north of LA on the freeway at about the city of San Clarita. Freeway was 4-5 lanes wide and started to slow down and then stopped. Saw smoke ahead of us, and after almost an hour of being mostly stopped, I decided to bail out, so was able to move to far right lane and exit, following my GPS's alternate route. Ha, about a thousand of my fellow escapees also followed that route, which took us to the entrance of a county detention center, so we had to turn around!! This was about noon, and temps were 110 degrees, which was rough because my AC is blowing out of the place where the defrosting air usually blows. I think something is stuck in there, but I have not taken it in to get it repaired yet, so my rig was getting hotter and hotter in the long line of people trying to find a better route that did not take us to jail!

So, I pulled over and tried my generator so I could run AC, but it kept quitting, I think because of heat. Even my tire monitor showed my tires getting really hot. And personally, I was about melting. I could have headed east through Tehachapi, but that was a lot longer, so I ended up heading west and getting onto Highway 101 at Venture, and then drove along the much cooler coast. Ended up being a lot longer drive, but at least the coast road was scenic and very cool. And I am finally in a campground near San Luis Obispo. Got here about 7 pm and temp was 65 degrees, which really, really felt good!!! It is 9 pm and I don't even need AC right now.

And yes, it is really expensive to do all the driving from Ohio to California, but this is my annual migration from one set of grandkids to the other, so worth it. Also, I was paying around $4 per gallon in Kansas, Nebraska, etc, and even paid $3.59 in Colorado at one point. Is over $5 here now, but I did get a couple of fill-ups at $4.89 in CA so it is going down a bit. PLUS, I have the advantage of not having to pay property taxes or for utilities, which I know adds up for most of you who have permanent homes.

And Anne, is about two weeks, I will be at Tillicum Campground near Yachats, OR so how about joining me with your RV? It is right on the ocean and high there for most of this week will be in 60s.

I just checked and Route Fire is getting bigger and I-5 is still closed in both directions: https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2022-08-31/fire-5-freeway-castaic-route-fire

I am home!!! part of me wanted to stay another day but we meaning my daughters decided that I should come on home...
before I go into my saga
What in the world Lyn is Black Lysol toilet bowl cleaner?? :?
and BJ I would agree that any computer built in the 1915 would be considered a miracle  I should have written on the date you wrote on your post but it was in that time frame.... hope you find one that you will enjoy... every once in awhile I think I need to give in and get one this one was used when I got it several years ago...
so Monday I had my niece stop at a store and get me a COVID test as I was simply too tired to get up and get dressed and go to the store that and the thought of driving there was more than I wanted or felt able to do...she brings it back leaves it on the porch and I took the test NEGITIVE!!! that is if I did it correctly so the next day I got a message from my sister in law asking what the test showed I told her and we talked via texting how I felt I told her I was taking cold medicine that I was very tired and didn't feel like going to the dr... so next I get a call from my 3rd dd I answered it with your aunt called you... yep so we talked about how I felt but the urgent care's would all be closed by the time she could come over so I finally decided to go to the clinic choose the nearest on by passing the hospital (that is important) got there and found out that it was no long an urgent care.... so went to the other one wayyyy out of town well not that far couple miles I guess... go up the the window have to have another covid test (could have saved 12 dollars) so waited in car while that test was ran I am sure that I looked terrible as she kept asking if I was ok...and ok with waiting... so go in tell them my symptoms they do the normal my bp is ok but my oxygen was 85 that wasn't good so put me on oxygen and did x-ray decided that my oxygen level was too low and I needed to go to ER how did you get here well drove... oops can't drive we will get the ambulance instead I called a friend and had her come pick me up in the mean time have let my dd know what was going on... I think on the way they called and said that they were on their way would meet me at the ER by the time I got to ER I was almost regretting not taking ambulance but not been in one since I was 16 I think just didn't want to pay for one... so got there more test ct scan that was a new one wanted to rule out blood clot... decided that I needed to stay overnight because they weren't sure why my oxygen wouldn't stay up... finally decided it was bronchitis and the infection just wasn't letting me breath deep enough put me on a z pack and some other antibiotics the gave me a nebulizer treatment think that really helped that was late this afternoon so home on oxygen appt with a dr on the 7 hopefully he will let me off of it so I won't have to figure out how I can go on the cruise with oxygen ... short notice suppose to use a ambusol and mucinex not sure if dd got the right one it's the cold meds we will hope it works
I am tired my friend came through with supper chick pot pie it was so good M. Cullendar needs to use her recipe it was so yummy....
you all have a good night need to gather up my long hose and the condenser I think it's called and reposition it I can get to bedroom where it's at but mom wonders at night I don't want to make a tripping hazard so will move it at night
but perhaps a game
