Saturday, March 5

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

Saturday, March 5

Postby Othersharon » Sat Mar 05, 2022 10:25 am

Good morning! Supposed to be a warmer weekend with overcast sky and some rain but I’ll take the warmth! I only have a few bits of ice still hanging around where the sun doesn’t hit so maybe the higher temps will help get rid of them. Shirl, so neat that you have lettuce coming up on your balcony garden! I’m seeing some green from my spring bulbs out front of the house. I imagine the temps this weekend will encourage more growth. Judy, hope the bites are feeling better today. Nasty little critters! Picked up my taxes yesterday so that’s done for the year. When I was by Sam’s yesterday the lines for gas was crazy. When I left town I saw the one sign for gas at 3.76 and a couple of hours later it was 4.23! Quite a jump! So not much else happening here, just more of the same as most every other day. If it wasn’t so wet I could start cleaning up the yard but not going to happen for a few weeks yet. My cleanup and to do list keeps getting longer! So that’s about it from me! Hope you all hav a good weekend and stay safe and healthy.

Morning Sharon and All. Clear sunny day. It has been a stressful week for me. Going to spend the day in my quiet little world. Doing a couple household chores or maybe not. Lol. Be safe

Tip for anyone who gets a new electric bike--ride it first without the battery attached to get used to the feel of it. Then ride it with the battery, but not turned on. When you are comfortable with that, then try the electric, but keep it at a very low speed until you are used to that. These bikes are all a lot heavier than you would expect and take some getting used to. They can take off on you without your planning, and then you can lose control and fall.

I mention this because a few years ago I loaned my old electric bike to a camphost lady to see if she wanted one. Her husband and I waited for her to return from riding around the paved loop, but she did not come back. Eventually, she came back walking with a broken wrist! She had to go to emergency and get a cast put on. She had lost control and fallen on the opposite side, so I no longer loan out my bike for trial runs. And when I gave my old bike to my DIL, the teenaged kids wanted to ride it, so I gave them the same advice to get used to the weight without turning on the electric.

Had a rough night with stinging and burning, but this morning the bites felt better. I am sitting in my recliner with a towel under my legs because of all the cortisone ointment on them. Last night I was looking up intensive care facilities, but am not going to bother today. All are same size and the centers are dark with pus in them, but they are not as hot pr painful.

Good Morning, Martha and Beth, what meals are you taking about? Guess I missed something.
Good info on electric bikes Judy. Last week, here, a 65 year old man was killed riding his brand new electric bike for the first time!!!
Does anyone know anything about drinking Bone Broth for weight loss? Velda maybe?
Our supposed rain storm fizzled out yesterday.
I am getting in the habit of texting the grandkids every morning to let them know I am well(alive(. If they don’t hear from me by noon they are supposed to drive here to check on me.

Be careful on your bike Barbie!! You don't want to break anything. I'm glad your bites are better Judy. I haven't heard of Bone Broth for weight loss but it is recommended for dogs as being healthy for them.
My cousin calls me about the same time every morning but now she talks to Pippa first. One day I put the phone down for her to hear and now every time she calls Pippa comes running to talk. It is so funny, now I just pick up the phone and hold it down for her, she listens, barks and licks the phone, then it's my turn. The funny thing is she never runs to the phone any other time it rings. Cousin even called this morning while waiting to board a plane.
It is warm here but of course will turn cold again next week but nice to have the warmth for awhile.
Shirl thinking of you and hoping you feel less stressed soon. {{hugs}}

One big problem with electric bikes is the "boost" feature. If you hit a patch of gravel or loose sand, the rear wheel might sense that you need a boost, causing the rear wheel to go faster. And on gravel or dirt, that can cause you to lose control. Even hitting a small rock can cause you to lose control. Also, in many of the newer bikes, the accelerator is on the part of the handle grip closest to the handle bars, so if you start to fall and your hand slides forward, you can inadvertently cause the bike to accelerate just when you least want that to happen!! (My old bike had the accelerator on a separate lever accessed by my thumb, so no danger of that.)

I am very careful to ride only on paved surfaces that do not have loose stone on them. Shoulders often have all sorts of road trash and gravel on them, so you really have to be careful. Plus, a lot of new riders ride much too fast.

And I ALWAYS wear a helmet. I figure at my age, the last thing I need is brain damage! Have even considered knee pads.

Good Afternoon! It’s 29*, sleeting with thunder and lightning and this is supposed to go on until around midnight. It was 62* yesterday. Don’t tell me that Mother Nature isn’t bi-polar. I said Rabbits on Tuesday….apparently it doesn’t cover the weather, just hope it covers keeping the power on.

I haven’t posted in a long time basically because I’m just lazy and haven’t done much…anything for that matter. Covid is finally slowing down, right now according to the state website site we only have 25 cases in our county. A month ago there were 157.

Had Bronc and Haddie overnight last night. I’m Candylanded, Old Maid, Memory, and Crazy Eighted out!!! They were so impressed that I still had some peppermint stick ice cream. I know they love it so I bought 3 half gallons that were still in the store after New Years. They still have a gallon to eat.

Started on a new afghan for a benefit this week. Our friend’s granddaughter was born with a heart defect and will need a transplant. So, there is going to be a local benefit for her and her family with a silent auction the beginning of April. I’m going to have to work on it pretty steadily to get it down in time. I donated the identical afghan to a benefit in November and it brought in $250. Hope this one can do as well. Need to find something to binge watch on Netflix to keep me occupied for a couple hours every night.

Judy, I’m with you on daylight savings time. I love it. Have you ever tried tea tree oil on your mosquito bites?
Velda, hope you’re feeling better
Shirl, I’ve started scarifying and soaking canna seeds for planting and have a couple if hearty hibiscus seeds that have sprouted.
Sheila, You have no idea how many times your posts have had me making a cup of hot chocolate at midnight!
Beth, Doesn’t seem possible that you will be heading back to work soon. BTW Walmart ships ginger beer…ask me how I know!
Lynn, I’m glad you have your living arrangements finalized.
Sue, You are always so busy that you make me feel like a sloth.
Karen, Bathrooms look great. Are you just about finished with renovations in your new home?
BJ, Pippa is just adorable.
Tina, You have no idea how happy it makes me to know that you have wheels under your hinder again! So glad you are feeling better.
I’m sure I have forgotten someone but it isn’t intentional

I didn't have trouble getting used to my electric bike when I got it, but I was used to motorcycles and 150 plus cc scooters so that might have helped. But your advice is excellent. I never could get comfortable on a bike, tho, motorized or not so should have known it wasn't for me

Lyn, I thought you responded to one of my posts. I've been trying a few meal plans. First one had excellent reviews and I hated it. Second is better, Freshly. At least they use seasonings. I'll keep getting from them, maybe once a month, while in Utah. That said I'm planning to try a third, BistroMD, when I get there. I'm hoping to like them and order from them also. I need easy and convenient. Martha took my discount for Freshly and is trying.... She hasn't said her opinion yet. Oh, these are all precooked.... Like I said, I need the convenience. This all started for me because I purchased some HEB meals and fell in love. Unfortunately there won't be an HEB anywhere near me. And these have more meal choices. Yes, I'm getting lazier and lazier. And with good groceries an hour away, delivery is well worth it.

Windy here today.

I know lots don't like retractable dog leashes but I believe, like most things, learn how to use them and they can be great. I'm on my high horse because a person on FB posted that her dogs got loose and yet she says the problem is the lady walking dogs was using a retractable leash and couldn't control her dogs. She could control them for whatever length she had the leash locked. Excuse me, even if she couldn't where does the responsibility go from the person who had the dogs not on any leash who were running free and cane after her dogs? I'm flabbergasted. So she's free from responsibility for her loose dogs? I think not.

Pat, you snuck in. So good to see you post.

Good afternoon!

Shirl, hope you are enjoying your well-deserved quiet time. Lyn, my BFF uses bone broth, but that's about all I know. She started as part of a nutritional change to keep from having full blown diabetes. So far so good and I know she did lose weight. My daughter and I have that same texting routine. Yesterday I was up way too early and texted her to see if the elk were still hanging out (they weren't) and startled her. She doesn't expect me to be up that early! :) Velda, continue to gain your strength! Beth, sorry about your sister-in-law. Mine is about to have yet another biopsy of her bladder.

Another beautiful day with dirty snow piles. :) Yesterday's shopping didn't exactly go as planned. I had a return for Joann Fabric, set it on the chair by the door. Part way to town realized I still forgot it! Had 3 stops in the vicinity of Joann so will do that another day. Picked up a few things at WalMart including photos for genealogy book. Son-in-law was away so I was picking up Monica at 5:15, but she got off early. We went to one of Leavenworth's breweries for a beer and warm pretzel - yum! Hit a couple shops, picked up pizza and I took her home. Nice to have some one-on-one time.

Pat snuck in - always enjoy your posts! And then Beth snuck in! :)

Good afternoon. Not much happening around here. I keep taking my Fitbit off to either take a shower or charge it and keep forgetting to put it back on. I just looked at how many steps I had for the week LOL I think I was in a coma. It doesn't really matter to me as I mainly like to see how I slept The steps are just a plus.

Good to see Pat posting. Yes Pat I am finished for now on the house renovations. I eventually want to upgrade my kitchen but that will have to wait a while..Ya know I am a girl on a budget LOL

I dont think you gals that are ordering meals have anything to feel "lazy" about. In my older age I try to have things that make my life easier and if you can find a good meal prep company that works for you then I say go for it. I have several friends that have been doing this since the pandemic first started several times a week. Mostly because they are working long shifts and also extra shifts. Most say they wouldnt want it for every meal but it sure help and is handy.

Judy, glad you gave your bike tips. I have seen too many women fall at campgrounds just on regular bikes. I have a couple of camping friends that zip around on their electric bikes and I think they are going too fast.

Lynn, Beth and I are getting Freshly Meals. I have only tried two, Brown Butter Pork & Cauliflower Shells and the Lasagna. I don't know I would order either one again, maybe the pork. I'll let you know after I have tried a few more. I think I'm too use to cajun food.

BJ, that's funny that Pippa wants to talk on the phone. One of my cats comes every time the phone rings. She doesn't want to talk, she knows I will probably be distracted and she can get in my lap. She won't just lay down she keeps rubbing and turning around until I run her off.

Karen, you can come remodel my house. I told the plumber that fixed the freeze leak that I wanted a toilet worked on and my kitchen faucet replaced. I have never heard from them. Monday I am going to have to call another plumber because I think there is another leak in the yard. I need to find someone to replace the ceiling in two rooms and don't know where to start.

I went to the old trailer and picked up a load of stuff to throw away. I have 2 boxes of papers to go through and burn. It was too windy today to burn anything. Went to Walmart on my way home. There seems to be a shortage of cat food. The feed store can't get any and there weren't many bags at Walmart. I'm not out yet but got 2 big bags just in case.

Judy, thanks for the advice on the e-bike. I will for sure try the bike without the battery in it first. I don't need any accidents! I will probably just use the peddle assist feature when needed. I don't need the full on electric power. There are no hills here and I don't plan to go outside the park with it.

Was super busy at work today and one of the girls had to leave at noon so just 2 of us the rest of the day. I am very tired tonight and heading to bed soon! Tomorrow will probably be busy too but just 6 hours instead of 9!

Was very windy here today. I missed most of it while at work but heard about it from my customers and then found a lot of stuff blown around my yard when I got home. Was much cooler today too. I don't think it got out of the 50's all day. I have the heat on in here tonight.

Have a good night!

back to the routine of getting up making breakfast going back and reading scriptures FB time and whatever today I tried to get to the store before the snow came I succeeded I don't think it has started to snow yet!!! my plan was not to go to the store today after all I went yesterday but remembered that I didn't get flour or sugar  so decided that I'd have to go so might as well got to Albertson's as they usually have the grapefruit segments that mom like's (so do I) and I used all my cash needed to get a new supply of it  Smith's charges a fee I refuse to pay it after all Albertson's is still free and there is the ATM as I was headed to the store I saw the BIG flag zip down like it was fast... was curious one why take it down? especially at 2;30 or whatever it was... so took a peak as I went by no one was there and the flag was draped all over the roof of a fan on to the ground.... many businesses there but one knew the name of one so when I got to the parking lot I called the restaurant miss those days when some one answers the phone instead you get this voice telling you what to pick for whatever... finally did a 0 and finally got someone to answer took telling him twice what I saw for him to understand that the BIG flag was on the ground... when I finished and drove past it was gathered up... suspect that the rope broke... got all that I wanted and only two other items not on the list
so good to read your post Pat...
good advice about the bikes Judy .... Larry used to have one
I use my phone a lot for recipes some times I even find them twice... ;) but I do love to read cook books!!!
who knows what I will do I did see a ad somewhere about a app and a recipe saver but then I forgot what it was so haven't done it guess you can save a recipe from where ever you see it to that app and have it instead of saving it never to find it again... I saved a Brioche recipe that sounded so good from the front page of yahoo never to find again...
visited with Kerry today she will be spending the summer in Skagway working for a tour bus company scheduling things... sounds like she is doing well I will have to remember to tell Kerry about the kits as we were talking about it and she wondered what brand ...wonder if they deliver to AK?
mom's slept a lot this evening can't make it easy to sleep through the night... wish she could find something that she might enjoy doing but everything mentioned she doesn't enjoy.... and it was stuff she used to enjoy doing
what pattern of afghan are you doing Pat?
by now I've forgotten what I read... Sharon it's still too early to do yard work... at least here it's still snow covered yards
checked with my friend and she was trying to call her son phone said she dialed him but got me go figure...
at least it wasn't anything serious..
and tonight I posted on the right night last night it ended up on Thurs... I usually when ready to go to bedroom take a last look couldn't figure out why I wasn't on Friday so looked there I am twice on Thursday
I wonder if the bone broth is a meal replacement???
you all have a great day
