The metal flower I put up near the peak of my house. The white board across the top above the window will be painted teal. I hate the look of the awning but it does keep the morning sun out of my bedroom.

Image

The horse painting (print) and the flower box on the deck railing. Also the lattice on the deck railing. Still need to put the rest of that up on the other parts of the railing.

Something has been peeing on my slider and screen. Probably one of the stray cats marking.

The paint samples with spray paint. The darker one on the right is the one I will be using on the trim. Am so glad I finally resolved the paint issue!

Barbie, I was visiting my “adopted” daughter on Christmas Eve to deliver homemade ice cream. We were talking socially distanced in her driveway when I noticed a palm frond from her neighbor’s huge palm tree had fallen into the tree on her property. I stopped in the middle of what I was saying to ask if I could have it. I explained what you had done with yours and that I’d like to make a reindeer too. She wanted to see the pic you posted and asked me to forward it so she could make one. You’ve started a trend!

it's looking really good... have you thought of painting the awning and shutters? might make you like it better

Thanks for the compliments. My house looks so bland with its dull colors so I wanted to brighten it up and make it more cheerful. I love rich colors!

Sheila, I did think about painting the awning but thought that might be too much teal in front. I might look into a different kind of awning for the window that looks better.

Like I said, I stole the reindeer idea but am willing to let others steal it from me  . Am thinking for next year that maybe I could invert the fronds and make Christmas trees out of them. I have the next 12 months to figure that out!

Barb, what of you chose a different lighter color for the awning. I agree the awning doesn't look great, but think it's the color as much as anything. Maybe even match the light color of the house so it blends into background, rather than sticking out like a sore thumb. Could try that until you decide on different option.

That could work. I priced awnings and they are very expensive! So a paint job would be much more affordable. I wish I could just remove it but that window faces straight east and the sun shines on it first thing in the morning. The awning keeps the heat down a bit from the sun in the summer too.
