Sheila, that's a hard question to answer. I love it all. I think the very favorite would be marinated turkey, but unfortunately, we don't have the 2nd refrigerator to do that in the motorhome. neither Steve nor I are fond of cranberry sauce.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I think I look forward to the turkey the most. I don't cook something I don't like so like it all. lol

Ham is not one of my favorite foods. Our insurance agent use to give us one of the spiral honey baked hams. Since he quit giving out hams I haven't cooked one in a few years.

I have never liked cranberry sauce. I quite like turkey on the first day - the odious and endless parade of turkey leftovers, not so much.

Favorite must have is the turkey breast. Least favorite from childhood was the green peas and pearl onions my mother always made. I miss her homemade mincemeat pies the most, as I haven’t had any many years.

I dislike turkey. One year when my ex and I were hosting, we had lasagne and lobster. But that just me because I love most of the sides associated with turkey. I've replaced it with chicken or cornish game hens. I love certain stuffings and immensely dislike others. I still love green bean casserole. And I like the jelled cranberry sauce and some cranberry sauces made with fresh cranberries, but not all. Aren't you glad you asked? Lol

Oh, and I love apple pie, extra cinnamon.

My dad always wanted a mincemeat pie for the holidays. For some reason I decided I didn't like them but I don't remember ever tasting one.

After years of Mel and I preparing a big turkey each year, I find I don't really miss it. I don't dislike it, I just don't crave it. So i no longer fix it, as Chris doesnt like it either! Favorite is always potato dishes, this year scalloped potatoes. My Mom and I had a joke that when one of us quit eati. Potatoes, it was time to call the funeral director. However I've given them up pretty successfully. I love pumpkin pie with real whip cream, but pumpkin cheesecake even better. I miss the spiced crab apples Mom always had a jar of for holidays but can't find them anymore, or the pickled peaches either. Really don't dislike anything. Miss my Moms homemade butter crescent rolls.

I dont like turkey all that much either but I can eat it once a year. I like all the side dishes tho. I take a little turkey and a lot of dressing, taters, gravy and yams. I like the green bean casserole but havent had it for years. I really dislike pumpkin anything. My favorite is hot apple pie and yes, I put some whipping cream on it.

I love turkey (white meat only) with mashed potatoes and lots of thick gravy! I usually make cole slaw with pineapple and mini marshmallows in it. Also either corn or green beans. Oh, and Hawaiian rolls with lots of butter!

I do not like sweet potatoes (love any other kind of potato dishes tho), stuffing, cranberries, or green bean casserole (don't like the onions on top).

For dessert, I like either apple pie warmed up wth cinnamon ice cream, or chocolate silk pie. If I have pumpkin pie, I have to bury it under a pile of whipped cream.

For leftovers I just have turkey and mashed potatoes and gravy and nothing else, for days! :D
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

I like turkey white meat, baked, BBQed or fired, dressing not the cornbread kind and gravy. I never liked cranberry jelly but a friend makes a cranberry relish that has a jello base maybe raspberry, celery, fresh cranberries, lots of pecan halves, and chopped up apple. In fact I just had some! I really don't like that green bean casserole!!! Sweet potatoes are ok without marshmallows.

The only part of the turkey I really like are the thighs, and I have two cooking right now. I don't really care for anything else other than the dressing and cranberry sauce. One thing I do remember from my childhood, however, that I liked was the wine. My parents did not drink a lot, but on Thanksgiving, my dad used to go out and buy a bottle of a particular brand of sauterne wine. It was a sweet wine and probably not the best choice to go with turkey, but it was the only time of the year we had wine. And my mother would get out the good wine glasses and even us kids had a small amount, even when we were pretty young.

And I also hate anything pumpkin! Sometimes this time of year, it seems like everything is pumpkin something. My younger son and my mother liked coconut cream pie, which I also disliked. So, one year, for just the three of us, I bought two pies--one for them and a lemon meringue for me!!

One year, when both my kids were gone, and it was just my mother and me, I made reservations for Thanksgiving dinner at the Dearborn Inn. It is an elegant hotel built in 1931 by Henry Ford on his Ford Motor Company property. (Originally, he had an airport on the site, and this was an airport hotel.) It is early American style and the kind of place you would take your grandmother for a special occasion. It was very expensive, but an incredible buffet with everything from turkey to venison to prime rib, and an incredible dessert table! Did it again for next couple of years. It is still in business, but partly closed due to COVID-19.

Judy -

You sparked a memory for me! As a teenager, for quite a few years our Thanksgiving tradition was my stepfather, my mom and I would first attend the local high school football game. Then we went to the Sheraton Hotel for their holiday buffet followed by whatever Christmas movie was being introduced at the local theater. We had some other years that weren't memorable, but those years sure do stand out.
