Paypal Scam

Postby retiredhappy » Thu Jul 30, 2020 11:12 am

Just a heads up ladies. I received an email from "Paypal" that my account had been frozen because of some suspicious activity and I needed to CLICK ON THE LINK AND CONFIRM MY INFORMATION. DANGER WILL ROBINSON, DANGER. I went directly to my Paypal account and naturally there was no problem. I forwarded the email to their fraud division. Seems like I got this same email a few years ago. Also received basically same email on one of my credit cards. NEVER CLICK ON A LINK IN AN EMAIL.

Yep, known scam. I get those fake letters both from people pretending to be Amazon and PayPal. Your first hint is the threat of cutoff, when in yiur head that doesn't sound right. Second hint: look at the email address it came from, by hovering over the address in the header. The real addresses are recognizable, while fake ones will start with pay pal or Amazon but then have obviously fake info such as amazon@joebrowns.malaysia.eu. No true amazon address looks like that. Both Amazon and PayPal have address to send this spam to. I click forward then add the address I looked up at amazon and PayPal then send. Be sure to clck include in the forward to include all the tracing info they need on the fake. They do go after people and sites. Always, if in doubt, go to your browser and type in the correct address, sign into your account and check. Never never click links in those strange emails.

I get those about Amazon occasionally and some others as well. Lots of scammers out there. After what happened with my dad, I am very suspicious of things like that.

I have been getting calls from "Social Security" I usually don't answer numbers I don't recognize, but with all the workers and construction here and every one has phones from where they used to live .. Also Walmart deliveries calls from all area codes.

Got a voicemail yesterday,

Enforcement agency is filing a legal warrant against your name and your social security number for fraudulent activity (LOL). Arrest warrant has also been issued on your name for money laundering and the investigating team of our department is investigating you and your family to get more information about your arrest warrant in case file from United States government. You may press one for more information before we download your case into the courthouse. Thank you. Press one now.

yeah like that is going to happen. I dont answer calls unless I know who they are so they left me this voicemail. Geez

Wow, Karen! And I thought you were living a dull life like the rest of us! How do you get time to do all that stuff?

I will admit to washing the bills I get as change from purchases during this Covid-19 pandemic, but that only takes a couple of minutes each day.

I've gotten the PayPal and Amazon and EBay emails in the past. They do look so real, but look close and you'll find errors. I imagine someday they'll perfect one and that's even scarier. But Karen, so far I'm not a felon lolol

Yes, all these reminders are good to post every once and awhile. I get phone calls from Soc Sec every once and awhile telling me my account is frozen and I must do etc, etc, to get my $. I just defeat them. I got a scam envolving Pay Pal when first putting the trailer on Craig’s list. Continue to be wary always! Lyn

I just got a call (which I let go to voice-mail) saying my SSN has been fraudently used. In the last 3 days, I've also gotten numerous emails from Amazon, Walmart & PayPal - most offering a gift by taking a survey (yeah, right!). It seems more & more are getting thru the past few days. Continue to be leary...

One nice thing about having an area code outside of the area where I live is I can safely answer calls from local area codes. They are usually legit. But I never answer ones from my phone's area code unless they are in my contacts. So far, so good. Guess I'll just keep this number forever. :D
