Letter from my nephew who is a police officer...

Postby BarbaraRose » Sun May 31, 2020 1:46 pm

This is from my nephew who is a police officer in the small town of Mankato, MN...

I feel so sick right now from what happened to George Floyd and now what is happening in the Twin Cities. I listened to the radio traffic all day at work and felt sick hearing all of the looting and destruction that is happening up there and the officers that are constantly being injured. It is complete chaos.

I feel so sick thinking about how horribly this incident will affect law enforcement and community relations. That officer messed up real bad and there is no defending him. I noticed today that people weren’t waving at me when they usually do. People are upset and I understand but it also hurts.

Things will get much worse in the twin cities before they get better. They told us today to have our riot gear ready to go in case we get called. I feel so bad for all of the business owners who have just lost their livelihood from the looters and rioters. I’m willing to bet that George Floyd and his family would not want this.

Unfortunately the Important message may get lost because of the riots and looting.

I’m worried about my family with someone who wants to hurt a law enforcement officer. We have been told there have been several threats made and to conceal our squad cars and anything relating us to law enforcement.

I love this profession until these times hit. I wish I had another career option.
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

Thanks for posting his letter. I am sure 99.9 percent of police officers agree with him. I hope that cop in Minneapolis gets convicted for murder and gets sentenced to life in prison. The video is sickening!

Barbie, I live just across the border from the cities in WI. My daughter lives in Chaska, my sister, nieces & nephews live in St. Paul. It is terrible and frightening what is going on in the cities as well as across the U.S. I feel for your Nephew, it is a scary position to be in. I think people have the right to protest, to demonstrate against the wrongs in our country. However, they should be peaceful, not violent, not the looting and the destruction of private property that is going on. People are using the demonstrations for their own agenda. I am sorry for the Police officers, as with any other group of people, there are the good ones and the not so good ones. But in this case some people are lumping them together. We have to pray that people come to their senses soon and order is returned to the U.S. -that the cops that started this whole ordeal get what is coming to them, within the law.
