First Friday of August

Let's start our day with a good morning here.

First Friday of August

Postby Colliemom » Fri Aug 03, 2018 7:55 am

Morning. Cloudy morning here. Had a good downpour yesterday, late afternoon, so pretty damp out there. Going to get pretty warm this weekend again. Phooey.

Getting ready to hit the road though pretty soon, so looking forward to that. Antsy to get going. Friend is camping at State Park nearby, but has to leave as her site is reserved. If no cancellations open, not sure where she is going. Parks are full up around here and even first come, first served are gone or going. Some opening back up for Sunday night here and there, maybe for night or so. Camp driveway is open here, but with upper 80’s predicted, she can’t use here AC here. I’m seriously thinking of heading back to Aloha SP for one night and then head north. We have reservations across the U.P. For 2 weeks. Why sit here in warm house, when have AC in trailer and a nice lakeside site to boot. Guess I better reserve it before it’s gone.

Otherwise just busy here, doing laundry, loading trailer, making few things to eat for trip ahead of time etc. and cleaning the house a bit.

Y’all have a nice day today. Velda, keeping you and Mel in my prayers. Thought about you a lot while forum was down and wondered how things were going as well as others on here too.

We had a storm blow through here last night about 9:00 and I mean blow. I had missed the early news and weather so didn't know we had anything coming. The cats had moved in here with me like I'm suppose to save them. Today is trash pickup and I just barely made it out in time to stand the trash can up. The truck picks up the can and it doesn't get picked up if the can is turned over. I'm glad I got all the mowing done. I had sprayed the weeds at the pond and all that probably got washed off.

Don't know what I'll do today. It seems like there was something I wanted at Walmart but I didn't write it down. Must not have been very important.

Good morning gals! Off for my physical soon here. Sunny and warm again. The house was shaking last night and again now so they must be setting off mortars at Camp Pendalton again.

Nothing else new here. Have a good day! :D

Not much exciting here. Headed to 95, so slightly cooler, but still smoky out, though I saw slightly blue sky overhead for a while yesterday evening. Trying new strategy giving Mel nausea pill before he actually complains and he ended up being able to eat breakfast so Zofran for the win. He also showered so seems at moment like a better day. I had a mishap with my treadmill last night, though not like what you might imagine. I had gone past it to the window to look and was coming back ( it's in an alcove) and just as I stepped past, the cats came tearing through to pass me in the narrow space between front of treadmill and my bed. As I had already shifted my weight forward, I shifted my trailing heel to keep my balance and it ended up my heel and back of ankle scraped against the skirt of the treadmill motor and tore the skin pretty good. By the time I hobbled to the bathroom there was blood dripping and I sure wanted to keep it off carpet. Held pressure for a bit and bandaged it up but it's pretty sore today, so guess I'll stay in and rest it some as caregiving allows. So annoying because it was one of those moments where you knew in a split second pain was coming but couldn't change trajectory to stop it happening.
Hoping weather cools soon as I really want to get Mel out, even if only for walks in neighborhood or a short ride nearby, but between high temps and smoke, that is out for now. That window for him is closing so I'm a little anxious about that. We have a nurse visit today from Palliative nurse who basically does nothng, but I'll humor UCD who are developing the roll.
Have a good weekend everyone.

Velda, I don't know what it is about cats but even if they have a lot of room they seem to clip my leg when they go running past. If I am about to take a step it can almost make me fall. It has been 9 years since one tripped me and I dislocated my shoulder. It is bothering me now more than ever. I guess arthritis is setting up in it. If I move it the wrong way a nerve sends me a shock.

Good afternoon Everybody, I received my new Medicare card today. Thanks to Forum members who mentioned they had received one, I was not surprised. For some reason I totally did not get the memo about new cards. The news must have happened while I was traveling. Very hot in CT the past few days with spectacular thunder storms... big booms!! Enjoy today Peggy

I guess I need to send my sons a text message to look for my social security card. I think it will go to Ohio, but not sure, as I was having mail sent to Napa for a while. Is it really critical that I have this or can I use my old one until January 1??

I let a lady try my electric bike yesterday, and she fell and probably broke her wrist, so I feel really bad. She has trouble riding a regular bike for long distances and she and her husband were talking about getting an e-bike. Actually, he was the one who was encouraging her to try it, but she was hesitant and I should have discouraged her for that reason. It is a very heavy bike and with the pedal boost, it can get away from you. She hit a rut and fell. Will find out today if it is really broken.

My new steps have arrived at the Coburg REV/Fleetwood service center, so I am off Sunday to stay in their parking lot campground, and they will install them on Monday morning. Then to LePage Park along the Columbia River, except it is going to be very hot there next Tues-Thursday, like in 100s, so not sure if I want to be there. But it is paid for and has electric, so will just have to live with heat for a few days.

Judy - it is NOT a new social security card but a new Medicare Card that does not show your SS number. Supposed to help with security and ID theft issues by not exposing your SS number.

My project of the day was to recover the seat of an antique vanity bench; finished product looks pretty good.. Thank goodness that went better than trip to Walmart late yesterday. Had to wait almost 20 minutes for someone to come to fabric department to cut the fabric. Plus Two items I wanted were out of stock followed by another 15 minute wait to check out. Only two checkout lanes open in a busy superstore is crazy. Assume I must have had misfortune of being there during shift change or dinner break - sure seemed to be a shortage of workers.

Rain forecast but so far it has been a nice sunny day.

I have about had it with under-staffed grocery stores. Not too long ago, I was at Walmart shopping and my cart was really full - groceries (lots of perishables, like meat and ice cream), a few clothes, cleaning supplies, basically the works. I mean, I had a major pile in my cart.

Most of the checkout lines were really long (and not too many open, at that), then I saw one where a checker would just be finishing up with a customer (who had a really large order), and then I would be next.

So I waited several minutes while the checker (it was a man) finished up, and just as I began unloading my cart onto the belt, he reached underneath the register, put a "Register Closed" sign on the belt right in front of me, and just walked off!! I could barely believe it, and was majorly pissed off.

So, although I had probably spent close to two hours in the store filling my cart, I just walked out of the store and left my cart sitting right where it was. It takes a clerk a lot of $$time$$ to put everything back on the shelves when this happens, not to mention ice cream melting over everything.

I'll do the same thing again. :x My time is worth something too! What is it with young guys and old lady customers like me, anyway? I am mostly ignored by young clerks when I am in a store and need some kind of help.

Something wrong with my money, I guess.

Anyone else have this kind of experience?

Ann, I think young workers are very inconsiderate now days. Some are very nice and take their jobs seriously but many don't. Can be very frustrating!

Got thru my physical. My new doctor is really nice and very thorough so that is great!

I have a new roommate! It is a woman about my age who lives just a mile or so from me with her son and his family, who I found on NextDoor.com. She just came over to look at the place and we seemed to really hit it off. She works as a nanny and a preschool teacher. We have a lot in common and had a great conversation. She loves cats and has a fish so my fish will have company  . She loves to garden and is excited to do some work around my yard which is fine by me! Her rent will pay my lot fee here so that will help out a lot!

Now I really need to get my master bedroom and bath done by the end of August before she moves in. She needs to be approved by the park management here first but I think she will be fine. They do a background check and check references and income.

Once the sun starts to go down and starts cooling off here in a couple hours I will start working on the side yard with the fake grass, etc.

Anne, I don't blame you for walking out. I went to Sam's today and they have remodeled the check out and it's mostly self check counters. There were only about 5 counters with cashiers. I refuse to go through a self check with a basket full of stuff. Most of them have no room to unload things. I use to buy a slice of pizza at Sam's but now they have machines where you have to place your order. I haven't tried to use one so I don't know if they take money or just cards. I refuse to charge $2 to my credit card. I have walked out of Home Depot because they never have anyone to check you out unless you hike to the contractors check out.

I think they are trying to get us all to use the self-checkout lanes. I refuse because I think they should be hiring real people to do that job, not make you do it. And besides, it usually takes longer if you have more than a handful of items.

Good for you, Anne, for walking out. I once worked with a youngish man who called the cell phone company with some problem. They gave him such a runaround that he told them to cancel his contract. They told him he would have to pay a hefty fee because it had not expired, and he said, he knew that and was willing to pay the fee rather than be treated badly by them!! Good for him!!
