Little Gracie is not a happy camper

My poor little Gracie, the drama queen that she is, she got her spay today and is now
home. Poor little thing screams with pain soon as I try to touch her. She is fine really,
italian greyhounds tend to be dramatic screamers with it comes to pain but I just hate
hearing it. Gave her a dose of pain med, (metacam) and in about an hour I'll see if
she wants her dinner. Vet said wait til after 6 and not to be surprised if she turns
her nose up at it. I just hope she heals up with no problems, but I am glad to finally
have gotten her spay, she turned 3 just a couple weeks ago and didn't want to go
through any more heats and she was due for that next month.

I hear Afghan hounds are also drama queens. What will you have to do for her to forgive you?

well, lets see, I've already brought her dinner in bed and hand fed her, water by syringe
squirts, but sooner or later she's gonna have to get up and pee, just can't see any way
I can do that for her

Molly says, "Gracie, GET OVER IT! I had a collar growing into my neck, broken ribs where someone kicked me with heavy boots, and a sick stomach as someone tried to poison me! And I was still running on the streets of Detroit, trying to stay alive! You can get over this little spay deal!"

I know Gracie won't listen to that advice, but maybe it'll give her some hope that the pain will go away! It's amazing how different dogs are when it comes to pain. It's probably a good thing that she keeps herself quiet for a while, until the sutures heal a bit more. Some dogs have to be incarcerated to keep them quiet during healing. Hoping Gracie and her mom have a better day today, and that she finally got herself up to pee!

I know about some dogs "milking" the situation.... My friend Kathy has two mini poodles. Littermates. Soosie has met them. Well, Ginger will be dramatic and Mitzi just gets on with life,.... and they are full sisters! go figure!

So how is the princess today. Is she feeling better? You have to worry some no matter how sure you know its nothing but normal b/c just about the time you think its nothing is the one time it is something...... Hope all is better today and no more moans and worrying....

she is a little better today, moving around some but she moves very carefully, and
I'm actually glad of that cause usually these little IGs love to run and jump. She is
getting special food though cause I want to make sure she doesn't go off feed, she's
one of those type of picky eaters. Pixie wants to be bossy with her and Gracie will
have none of her attitude so gotta keep everyone separated by a watchful eye.
I finally got a good peek at her incision and it looks good, small, not even an inch
long and no licking. Hope she doesn't start but I'm ready with a belly wrap just in
case she starts licking at it. I'm sure a few more days and she'll be moving around
like her old self.

YAY for Gracie! Molly was asking me about her this morning, wondering how she was healing. Glad for the update, and to hear she's moving around now and acting more like herself. It's always scary, no matter how common the surgery, when your 4-footers have to undergo the knife. Hugs for both of you from us.

Thanks for sharing the update. You are right to keep an eye on the incision. Last year when I was working for the vets.....it didn't happen often but a kitty or a dog would get into the sutures.... Our first question was always had it been wrapped or the 'cone" left on.....duh, no...Kitty poo didn't like it. The owners never seemed happy to have to pay the cost of re-suturing ...Hope its all good from here. The difference in personalities always comes through...I love that we can appreciate their differences just like in people.

Winnie says she hopes you are feeling better Gracie. If you could come over she will tell you all about her traumatic trip to the vet yesterday to have her teeth cleaned and you could tell her all about your awful operation.

Ava hope you are doing ok too, it is hard on us moms when our little ones aren't feeling well.

Ava, Maggie, wants me to tell Gracie, she has been there and she knows how she feels. As Abby says, milk it for all it worth, Gracie!!!

Vet, told Maggie not to be jumping etc., but Maggie didn't listen, but she did very well. I didn't though for a few days

Hope all is over with and Gracie is back to usual self, and you don't have to worry anymore.

Peaches and I hope Gracie is back to normal by now.

As to those cones - neither of my last 2 dogs would allow a cone on - in fact, after a vet put one on Moxie, she ran head first into walls to get it off - and he said she probably would be better off licking sutures than killing herself She was known for tearing her claws, painfully. Twice after painful removal of claws and the vets had carefully bandaged the entire paw (and tried unsuccessfully to keep a cone on her) they would bring her to me in the waiting room and watch as she removed the bandages in no time flat (faster than I got the treatments paid for). I tried to put a Christmas scarf on her neck once - and not only did she tell me that was a no go - but when I turned my back, she found it and shredded it - letting me know it would never be around HER neck again. I've always wondered why she was ok with a collar - cuz when I'd remove it to brush her, she'd come running up to me to get it replaced when I picked it up after.

So, Gracie, yep - you can milk this as long as you're really ok - we Mom's are used to it.

well its been a whole week now and she's pretty much back to normal. Finally today she
is carrying her tail like normal too, all week she kept it tucked up between her legs.
But she's mean to momma, she won't me let look, so I have to pick her up and go stand in front of the mirror.
