My heart goes out to you. You need to get a competency hearing to take over as his guardian, either you or your brothers. As for the doctor, the judge can order him examined by a different doctor. The bad part is you probably will need a lawyer. For sure, contact adult protective services in your area. They can help you through the process. A big part of it could be his ability to physically take care of himself = is he leaving the stove on? Is he bathing regularly? Is he keeping the house clean? Is he eating properly? At some point he's going to have to go into some type of assisted living.

Barbi, this is truly awful. I agree with everyone here. So long as you are trying to help your Dad, your brothers will do nothing - because they don't have to, so long as you are doing it.

It sounds to me like you have done everything that you can possibly do. There isn't anything else. I say "go". You really have no choice. If you continue this one-sided struggle you will end up damaging your own health - and still, after you have damaged your health, nothing will have changed.

Best wishes, my thoughts are with you.
