Traveling Longdogs: Gateway to Colorado and Santa Fe

This was a spectacular part of our trip.....a really exciting ride with lots of beautiful scenery. Motorcyclists love this route and so did we.

Espescially loved the NM pics, lived out there for a short time and found the state to be fascinating! The food is great too, sopapillas, green chili enchiladas... I'm drooling here!

We had the biggest sopapilas in Santa Fe that I have ever seen.....about 5 or 6 inches square.

Great photos! I have only been there once and came in from the southwest and left via the east. Want to go back next summer.

By the way, there is a great COE campground about 30 miles west of Santa Fe called Cochiti Lake. All paved, even with paved sites, and a lot of water and hookup sites. Fantastic view of lake and mountains in distance. Super Verizon service because this is an Indian reservation and they have a tower right there. No grocery stores anywhere nearby, however, so bring what you need. Nice senior 50% federal discount!

Appreciate the info, Judy. We used to stay almost exclusively in KOA's in NM as they were near our favorite spots, but we'd like to branch out some on our next trip, and maybe not have to spend $60 a night for a space.

Thanks Colleen, your post brought back tons of memorys. I've ridden all of those hiways on motorcycle and they're the best riding! My favorite place in the world is just south of Ridgeway 1 mile, a hot springs getaway. I'll make it back there one of these days!

I'll have to tell my son Steve that Sharon. He was supposed to ride this route but had a motorcycle accident the morning he headed out. Darn deer. Anyway, he came with Helen and I instead and still enjoyed the route although I know he would have preferred doing it on a motorcycle.
