So sorry, its so hard to do the right thing for our furbabies but they kinda let us know when its time. I lasted two weeks after Buddy before I got Baxter and he's so happy not to be in a cage any more. Sophie is happy to have a friend who worships her.

Sue, it never gets any easier, no matter how many times we have to go thru this. Our pets just don't live long enough, altho she lived a good long life with you! It is all about quality of life rather than quantity.

Heal your heart, and then when the time is right, help out another dog in need. There is one out there somewhere waiting for you.

Karen, I know just what you mean. At the time I was dealing with Sassy's issues and having spent the previous year taking care of Tessa with her kidney failure, I was thinking that maybe it's time to just not have a dog around for awhile end enjoy the freedom. But since Sassy has been gone, I miss having one here especially on my walks. Being alone, they are good company for me. So I am in the hunt for another collie to love. Yes, Sassy did live a long life, but only about 7 of those years were actually with me as she was 5 when I adopted her. All of my past dogs have been adopted around age 5 or so. Was thinking last night that I have sent 4 dogs to Rainbow Bridge in the past 9 years roughly. Am hoping that something comes from that big collie seizure down there in TX but have to wait and see.

Barbie, a friend said to me once, that our beloved pets don't live that long and I told her that's because then we can love more than one in our life times. We can spread our love among many of them.

I just read on line this morning a quote saying that dogs have to walk on all fours in order to carry around their big hearts! So true!
