I'll be heading for Mexico next month, too, but to the southeast. As for wifi, stop in a Telcel store and get a wifi stick (Banda ancha) which you can add time to as you need it. There's not really anything you can't find down there that I can think of. Almost takes the fun out of it these days.

Oh, if the "transitos" (traffic cops) stop you anywhere with unlikely charges, most are doing best by not speaking Spanish and playing the dumb turista, but I don't hear many stories of that in the Baja. And, FYI, there's a Facebook page on traveling in Mexico. Search Facebook for "on the road in." Always someone around with an answer to whatever. Buen viaje!
