A few years ago, while I was caring for my elderly mother before she passed away, I bought a recommended book called "Coping with Your Difficult Older Parent." When I was done with it, I gave it to one of my sons. Figured they would need it with me!

Thanks for the recommendation, Judy! I just ordered it from my local library. Sounds like it could help me with some issues with my dad.

I am a stoic individual but I was in tears at least four times yesterday during Art's move. Today was much better. He made friends with 3 men over lunch so I was not accused of putting him in Stalag 13.

It's a great book. Basically it talks about what is really going on in the mind of an ornery older person, who really may not intend to be so grumpy.

And JoanE, my mother also made good friends in assisted and senior living. She was actually less lonely than she had been at home.

Aw, Joan, the tears show what a tender, caring individual you are. And yes, even strong stoic folks care deeply. So much better than being spiteful & bitter. Your kindness will come back to you when you least expect it. :D {{{{hugs}}}} coming your way. ;)

Here is the website for the Escapees Care Center at Livingston, TX. I plan to stop there and take advantage of their Smart Weigh of the RV and tow. Wheels are weighed separately. Will check out the Care facility while I'm there for future reference.

Liz, I recently joined Escapees. Haven't had much opportunity to check out their website yet but was interested in the Smart Weigh. Had my rig weighed when I first ventured out at my local Waste Mgmt yard.

I have been absent from WRV for awhile and decided to check in today...wow, what interesting thoughts and insights on our futures. We really are a diverse group. I have many thoughts on this but my children would probably welcome me into their homes. In fact, my daughter who is 47 and will never marry plans to retire and move from WA state to the Gulf Shores-Destin area or the Smokies in ten years. She wants me to live with her fulltime if I want or parttime. In ten years, if I'm not having health issues that would burden her I will probably do this. I will not go into or stay in either of their homes if I'm a burden..I happen to live in a nice home, not lavish, but to think I could live my life out right here with a little dog by my side is my choice. I go dancing 2 or 3 times per week plus I work very hard in my yard so hopefully this is what is keeping my bones pretty strong and agile. I have had my new Jayco over a year now and other than a couple of times camping in the parks in my area (we have a corps of engineers lake surrounding us) I haven't ventured out. I will be taking it to Gulf Shores after Christmas for about a month. Life is really doled out one day at a time and aren't we glad we don't know what is ahead??

Hello All,
I rarely have time to do anything but lurk here periodically but I saw this thread a couple of weeks ago. We are pondering what to do, if anything, for a home base when we go out on the road.

We just got back from a trip (via plane & rental car) to Texas. We went to visit friends but also made time to visit the Escapees park in Livingston. Liz, I see you are planning a visit. They do tours on Tuesdays (general tour) and Thursdays (Care Center).

This is not a finely manicured place but I found it to look just fine to my inexperienced eyes. We got there too late to do the tour so we didn't get to see the inside of the Care Center. All the people we talked to were very nice. We joined the Escapees Club while we were there. They have spaces of all kinds from the daily park to deeded lots and everything inbetween. The deeded lots have all different kinds of structures on them and were quite interesting. The area is quite beautiful and reminded me of the East Coast.
