RVing with Rottweilers

Any ladies RVing with Rottweilers? If yes, are we going to have issues or be black listed due to breed? Thank you

If staying in private cg's you'll always have to check if they have breed or size restrictions. Rotties will be on the breed restriction list IF they have them. And many cg's have size limits. Where I'm at now doesn't allow over 18 #'s. I couldn't have stayed here with my last two dogs who were on the road with me. You won't see the same thing at most public cg's.

Thanks Beth, Funny one of my nicknames was Bethers and Bethy & some 4 letter words as well. Ha Ha Hope not to stay in too many private CG's. Our 1st. trip may be up to Williams or Flagstaff. Both those websites say no dog restrictions. Our Rotts are always on leash in public & both are very people friendly but our 10 month old pup is not welcoming to strange dogs. I have read that some irresponsible campers let their dogs wander? That is a concern as we are well aware that a Rott will most likey get the blame in an altercation. It's frustrating.

I've seen many let their dogs lose. I only do so when necessary. My dog won't be friendly in many cases to another dog if she's leashed. So if they are unleashed, and I don't think dangerous, I unleash Peaches. BUT she's a small breed and won't have the stigma you'll have. When I had my larger dog I was very, very careful to watch situations so that I wouldn't have problems. It's unfortunate that there are pet owners out there who cause problems and others get blamed! Same for pet owners who don't pick up after their pets, etc. The rest of us have to live with the consequences of that.

Yes, as Beth shared there are campgrounds with restrictions. Most of those are private. There are also cg's with limits on weights and or limits on number of dogs. On breed restrictions the owners will then usually apologize and tell you their insurance company makes them.

Yes, watch out for unleashed and unmannered dogs in any of the parks. There are owners that think their dogs are perfect and can't read dog body language. There are other owners that are just negligent and/or ignorant. Some of them don't watch their children either.

We on the other hand don't prejudge the furry children until they actually take bites out of our ankles or steal our ice cream cones. And those traits have nothing to do with breed.

wow at that size Shadow wouldn't be allowed and I really don't think of him being a big dog!

Butch my Mini Schnauzer is 20#. I guess I will have to check on this when staying in cg's. I don't think of him as being a big dog either. Maybe the poor little guy will have to go on a crash diet before camping...lol

I could say that normally Maggie is 18 lbs but at the moment she is retaining fluid.

Eighteen pounds is stupid. Baxter is 18 to 20 and Sophie is 28 to 30. I used to travel with two Labs and never had a problem but then people are more afraid of Rotties. All the Rotts I've ever met were real sweeties. I HATE it when people don't keep their dogs leashed. I don't care how sweet your dog is if a strange dog comes charging up to your dogs, there may be a problem.

There may be a problem....especially when our dog/s feels the need to protect us.....which most of ours, no matter the size, will try to do.

Smaller dogs definitely have benefits. We got our 1st Rott in 1987 before the general public knew the breed. People would comment I had a strange looking Dobie or that my Dobie was fat. I didn't know anything about the breed back then either but I instantly fell in love with their cute heart shaped butt. 26 yrs. later I still smile at that butt. Been very involved with the breed, training, therapy dog work, foster/rescue and dabbled in schutzhund for awhile but I soon found out that sport was not a hobby but a very time consuming passion. I still admire the sport and miss the comraderie of the club in CA. The only thing I don't do is breed.

Rescue Rottie 6 yr old Sage earned her CGC and our goal is to have pup Tug earn his CGC next year He can do most of the obedience now, loves all people but the fact he isn't friendly with strange dogs will be an obstacle. He is a product of living in rural AZ. Doesn't get to interact with many dogs off leash in a controlled environment then in public they are on leash. If we see 2 cars on our street per day we think someone is having a party! Ha Ha

There is a cold wind blowing in Prescott with possible rain later. Temp will be below freezing tonite and we are wondering if we will see snow on top of Granite Mountain tomorrow AM. May need to rethink our 1st RV trip at the end of the month and head south instead of north. It's getting cold quick.

When I got Peaches she weighed 16 1/2. A year ago she was 17.5 or .6 and the vet said she was "perfect". I could actually get kicked out here now - as took her to the vet last week and she weighed in at 18.1.

I, too, think 18 is a ridiculous # - but then I also see no need to restrict based on weight - or breed, even. I do believe in the parks who have you sign something about ANY nuisance dog (or people for that matter) will be required to leave - with no refunds, etc. Make people be accountable for themselves and their animals.

When they give the poundage, it can give you some lea way unless there are complaints because most folks really aren't good at guessing a dogs weight. It does let them eliminate the big boys and girls quickly though.
