A few things falling apart in my new trailer

These aren't big things, but we are noticing a few things coming apart. One is the kitchen cabinet next to the slide-out. It fell off and it wasn't because we left it open when we closed the slide out. It fell off soon after we brought it home. I had the neighbor come over to put it up and he noticed that it had been repaired already. There are several extra drill holes, mix-matched hardware and some little nail holes. Also the trim next to the slide-out on the opposite side..it's a slim, flimsy piece of siding is coming up. This too looks like it was repaired..because there are a few staple holes near the top..but no staples down the rest of the length of the trim. We aren't about to take a staplegun to it because it goes right up to the slide-out. Wood glue? Also after our first camping trip we noticed that the air vent in the bedroom was coming out of the ceiling! Looks like the screws were put in wrong. We notice that all the cabinets are missing screws in the hinges! So chintsy! Instead of putting in 2 or 3 screws in the hinge like you are suppose to..they have one. This is a brand new unit. So is it normal to bring it home and find all kinds of little things put together half-as*ed? They sure don't make things like they used to.

I just wrote the dealer. Should I contact Cruiser RV who makes the trailer?

I'd say see if the dealer makes things right, if not, then contact the manufacturer. I also recommend documenting EVERYTHING, including what's wrong, date you noticed it, who & when you contacted the dealer & if you talk to someone on the phone, do the same including what you were told. Hopefully the dealer will make things right, but I always say CYA. With this being a brand new unit, there shouldn't be that many things wrong unless someone damaged it while showing it to customers, but that doesn't explain the missing screws. Good luck, let us know any updates.

The cabinet is right next to the slide-out. If you leave that cabinet open and close the slide-out, the slide-out would break it right off. What's interesting is that very same cabinet was slightly ajar in the walk-thru and the guy said, "why's that open?" and shut it. I video'd the walk-thru. lol I personally think someone had left it open and closed the slide-out...then did a quick fix to get it back up. grrr

I'll update after the dealer gets back to me. I will be sure to do careful documentation like you recommend. thank you!

If you bought it through Camping World, good luck. You might want to check out RV.net.

I'd take pictures of everything you notice -- everything. And I wouldn't be modifying anything until you get everything you want fixed.

Apart from the vent it sounds like everything is cosmetic. Easy to deal with, but leaves a bit of a sour taste in your mouth. It happens. Happened to us, and we got over it once we fixed stuff. Wasn't worth it to us to take it back to Camping World after the troubles we had with the hitch set-up. Frankly, we did a better job of repairing it than they could have.

The lower end units do have a lot of shortcuts taken - I know I have more staples than screws in my little trailer. I think you have been given good advice - see what they will do, then fix the rest yourself. I have rebuilt a cabinet, added screws where the staples kept coming out - in addition to the mods I made. I actually saw how the cabinets were built into the trailer when I replaced my A/C. It wasn't a box like you would think of for a typical kitchen or bath, but was built in place, again using staples. My rebuilt cabinet is a lot more solid even if I did build it in place as well.

And if you can put the date on your camera, turn that feature on and take pictures of everything you're finding ... document, document. It's new, and under warranty - get them to take care of everything. EVERYTHING.

Yep, what everyone else said...take photos, write everything down,and call to have the unit set up for an appt. to get things fixed...sounds like you got their "show model" and they need to make this right for you....

Yep, what they all said. Give the dealer a chance to make it right first, but if they don't then contact the manufacturer. I agree with photos and documentation too.

Alright. So far so good. I emailed him and he got right back to me and asked for pics. I sent and he said he is forwarding to the Warranty Department lady and will get back to me monday. Our dealer is 2 hours away. Hopefully this will be rather painless. fingers crossed

I would also have the dealer fix everything, that's uncalled for. I picked up mine yesterday, one of the blinds was badly messed up another had one bent, I told the guy that they needed to be replaced, he didnt see a problem with the first one being replaced because it wasn't useable, but he kinda made a comment about the second one that things will happen down the road, but I told him, yes I agree things happen with wear and tear, but they shouldn't be messed up when you are purchasing new. Luckily there was another one and he took the blinds out of that one so I wouldn't have to go back. The place is an hour drive, I can't see burning the gas for blinds, but I shouldn't accept broke either.

If you have any problems with the dealer, call and then email the factory customer service center. My dealer refused to fix some things because they were "my fault." Like I had overloaded a drawer, etc. and some things were "typical wear."

The factory customer service center fixed everything right the first time with no trying to blame me for stuff, and even fixed some things I didn't know were broken, so I am a big believer in them. It was four hours from home and six from my son, but a place that I drive past once or twice a year, so worth stopping at.

If you can't make the trip to the factory, at least they can help you deal with the dealers.

Factory is 4 hours away I think. The dealer is 2. Sucks that you get to pay even MORE MONEY for gas and possibly a hotel in order to take a brand new unit in to get "fixed" when none of it is your fault and you've only had a few weeks. Did they get your fixes all done in one day or did you have to drive back later? Adding up how much I might have to spend on gas and/or hotel is getting me re-annoyed. lol I'm so glad that you got all your stuff fixed, Judy! But it's still disheartening to make such a large purchase and find all these little things that need fixed. Oh my dinette table is VERY wobbly too. If you lean your arm on it, it totally shifts. All the cabinets seem to need tightened.

2 screws on one side, one on the other. Different thread and color on the screws, little nail holes yet no nails.

I also have notice some funny scratches on the outside where the pull out is. Something looks to be rubbing funny to have made it because I know they weren't there when we first got it. We've only pulled it out at the most 8 times.

Also, these problems are things you can see...what about things that may be wrong that you can't see....JMHO
I would definitely contact the factory too. If your slide is already a problem with so little use....would a 'fix' be the best way to go or would a new unit be a better 'fix'.... again, just my opinion.....
