Making room for company

Postby BirdbyBird » Thu Jun 20, 2013 2:17 pm

As I have posted somewhere, after the PA GTG I am heading down to the DC area and hang out until my cousin's reunion on July 6th. On the weekend of June 28-30, My daughter will be in DC visiting museums with a couple other educators as part of the Artist and Residence program that she participated in this past winter. I will pick her up on Sunday the 30th and she will stay with me in the Short Bus at the Cherry Hill RV Park until her husband flies in to join her on the 5th. We will play DC tourists until Lucas arrives then they get their own accommodations and we all get to play tourist together the reunion.

But the Short Bus only has one bed.....

Now I get to appreciate why I like the open floor space.

Here we are with dog crates and the comfortable chair for reading and computer work....across from my bed.

Image

Here is the wood working part. Picked up 3/4 sheet of plywood from Lowes and cut it down to 26 inches by 68 inches....

Image

I rearrange a couple of dog crates....

Image

And using the slim air mattress I found...... :) The Short Bus can now sleep 2 without me having to give up my overhead/cab storage area :)

Image

And until I need it the board can travel behind the crates and the chair while the air mattress folds up and hides in the overhead. (Later I might see if the board can just slide under the mattress on my bed for storage...though it might make lifting the lid to the under bed storage harder....)

I'll be ready to roll by Sunday!

Looks good, although I guess I would wonder if the crates can support that kind of weight

Good job, Tina!
And it's another bed the dogs can jump on and peek out a window.

I don't think I would want to use it over a long periods without additional support but it held me and the crate doors opened without any tension which indicated that there was no torque on the crate boxes.... If need be additional supports could be made at the two ends and that was considered but seemed unnecessary for now. The daughter weighs a good 40 pounds or so less than the GHL  She is used to tent camping with sleeping bags so I think it will be adequate for her. :)

Wonderful. I love the way you just "get 'er done." Can't wait to hear all about the trip.

Good quick solution, Tina.
Now you may have your daughter wanting to go on trips with you more often too.

What a great solution for another sleeper. I can see having some supports that can also fold up and be put away for storage when not in use. Enjoy your trip. Linda

Clever idea, I think it looks comfy! Will your daughter get Stuart or Remi to sleep with her or is that pushing sharing too far  ?
