Removing faucet from shower

Removing faucet from shower

Postby Olive600 » Tue May 21, 2013 7:10 pm

I've attached a pic. This is as far as I've gotten. Does the brass bit where the knob was come off somehow? I don't want to ask the neighbors and haven't found anything online. I want to remove whole thing, but don't know what comes next. Thanks for any help.

there should be a panel to the back side of that wall where you access the backside of the faucet and undo the nuts, then it just comes off. I plan to do that to mine too.

Yep, under the kitchen sink, behind a panel. I need a flashlight and a wrench. This is a job for tomorrow. Thanks, Ava.

Just noticed that I have my first scraped knuckle! Yay! I can fix stuff! Yay! :D

if you get a faucet wrench it will save the wear and tear on the knuckles and the faucet wrench is cheap enough, think
I paid $12 at HD. Probably get them for half that at Harbor Freight.
also called a basin wrench I guess

Yes! Thanks Beth and Mitch and Everyone! I would never take on this project without the support I get from all you wonderful women.
So, wrench is bought. I also found out that I shouldn't be running my A/C all day off the house current. That's a good way to burn out the compressor. So, no more A/C. I'm not sure how that will work for me. The heat might mean a lot of the decoration stuff gets put off until late fall or even winter. I have no idea right now.

Thanks again for everyone's help. I'll keep y'all posted.

Nikki

On Edit: Don't buy wrenches before you try to unscrew the whateveritis with your fingers.

I've been wondering how to replace my shower faucet thing. Could you please take pictures of what it looks like under the panel? Would love to see the whole process.

Judy, the only picture I have is the one I posted in the "Betsy's getting a makeover" thread in "Show Off Your Rigs. It will be a few days maybe longer before I have it put back together so you can see what it looks like before it's torn apart. As best as I remember, here's what I did. I'm not at all sure that it's the way it should be done. Also I'm not sure what any of the parts are called. I just unscrew stuff until something falls off.

1. unscrew the small screw on the bottom side of the faucet. It might be on the body, closer to the tub wall. Unscrew faucet.
2. pop off "H" and "C" covers on handles and remove screws. Take off handles.
3. Go to "back side of wall the faucet is on. Find the panel and unscrew it. Mine was under the kitchen sink.
4. You'll see the hot and cold water lines. It's obvious how they unscrew. Unscrew them and lift them off the connections.
5. Under the lines, I had a nut, a bolt, and a ring. Unscrew the nut and remove the ring. You'll hear the faucet drop into the tub. :D

Once you get the panel off, it's all pretty obvious. You might need a plumbers wrench. I bought one then found that all the connections were easy to loosen with my fingers.
Here's the picture. The holes are where the connections to the faucet base come through the wall. The water lines have been removed and the faucet has fallen into the tub. As I read this I think I didn't need to unscrew the faucet itself. I'm not sure.
