When I leave the house my new little poodle Annie would go BERSERK and jump against the door, clawing away, OR WORSE, go at my plantation shutters if she sees me outside. A couple of days ago, I had a SERIOUS talk (no hitting) with her, accompanied by one of those go-out for a minute / return with a treat and praise cycle. I was astounded that at about the third time, she had gone into the living room to settle in. I still called her back and gave her a treat. But it is amazing.
Even more amazing is the no-bark warning has translated over to other behavior. It's WONDERFUL. Not perfect, but the original behavior has disappeared altogether.
She still is my 9 a.m. alarm clock, with "mom-let's-go-walk" pouncing and licking in my ears. With some correction she is much better at pulling on the leash. She now tends to set her pace along with mine, and when she reaches the end of the leash, she pulls back a bit. A VERY smart girl.
