Phone GTG with PeggyCT

By the time I got the message she was down the road from me, it was too late to gtg, but we had a nice phone chat.

She was on the way back from Quartzite heading towards the east coast. Hopefully, we will get to meet in person at a later date.
She is really enjoying her travels since leaving CT in October.

Sorry no pics. ;)

Even phone GTG's work. Are you close to I10? I will be heading that way next month. Definitely going to let Vickie and Martha know when I hit LA.

Good morning All. Yes, telephone gtgs are one step away from the real thing. Carolyn, after working all day, exercising, and finally getting to relax on the computer, offered to drive to meet with me. Bless her heart. Once it gets dark, I pull the curtains and settle in for the night, so I didn't want to go out. We had a nice long conversation and I will definitely plan my next trip to include a visit with her. For people traveling on I-10 there is a Welcome Center at Exit 121, Butte LaRose and Carolyn lives in Butte LaRose about five miles down the road. Alas, she had to go to work at 7:00 am, so next time for sure.
I'm working my way home and New Orleans is next. PeggyinCT

If you were at the Butte LaRose rest stop last night Carolb was there too. She sent me a message yesterday but I didn't get it until too late or I could have given her directions to my house. Most people aren't too interested in visiting me because I'm 40 miles south of I-10 but it's nothing for me to go to Lafayette. The Butte LaRose rest stop is nice with a dump station and night time security. It's one of the only rest areas still open on I-10 in Louisiana.

Hi Martha
Sorry I missed Carol at Welcome Center. I came across Texas on I-20 and spent 5 days in Forth Worth. I didn't make any set plans for Louisana because I wasn't sure how fast I would travel. Did get to Eunice for the pre Mardi GRAS festivities on Monday night and the chicken run and parade on Tuesday. Do you have a similar celebration in Abbeville? Peggy

Eunice was probably a good place to see the country celebrations. I don't think there was a parade in Abbeville, I try to miss them. Today I got caught in the traffic jam caused by the crew picking up the parade barricades in Lafayette. That's as close as I got to a parade. lol One of these years I might see about getting an RV spot on the parade route in Lafayette. That's about the only way I would attend one. A lot of the businesses on the parade route close and rent out their parking lots.

Hello! I was wondering why I got a PM from "PeggyCT" that arrived "deleted before sent"--Peggy, yew & I passed each other!??? :( I was at the rest area at--and omg I'm going to misspell it--Afatchalayla??? Please don't say yew were one of those other rigs that was parked there! It was one of those rest areas that is accessible from both directions.... And Carolyn, so sorry I missed yew! I'm jst winging this trip, so have no set plans at all til the last second. Like last night, I'm waiting owt traffic in Hewston, thinking I'll sleep at a trck stop or WM, & I find owt I'm only 20 miles from Red!!! I was thinking of a "meet for coffee" gtg if it worked, and now I'm parked in her driveway 8-) Hmmm, maybe we need an "on the road, anyone owt there" section!!! OH, bt since yew live in CT??? A New England gtg sometime????? :P

Hi Carol
I was at the Welcome Center. Free coffee and nice bathrooms. I'm now near New Orleans and going into the French Quarter today. Will be here for a few days. Will be back in CT first week in March or there abouts. Let me know when you return.

The very best thing about that rest stop (other than it is so close to Carolyn) is that it has one parking area for cars, one for trucks, and a completely separate one for RVs so you are not parked among the semi-trucks running their gennies. Also free coffee, interesting museum, and decent rest rooms. A really great place to stop!

As a reminder to any newbys, you have an option to ask, Mitch or Vickie to place your home base on the members map. ( it is always an option for those comfortable giving up their approximate location). Those traveling through your neck of the woods can them PM you and swap phone numbers and try to gig when possible...... Those traveling on longer trips can always just throw the basics directions to the wind and see who PMs you back.....
