Intro, new to RVing

Postby pymmint » Mon Sep 03, 2012 2:29 pm

Hi Everyone: I’ve never been rving before, in late 2010 I decided that I’d pack up my family of 2 kees (dogs), 1 cat, & 5 parrots & hit the road in the next couple of yrs, to see this great country; sadly about 6 wks later, I had a house fire & lost most of my family, I still have my 2 boys & now a love bird, I calll him/her Sarge since it is unisex. I’m a little scared of going it alone, we should be leaving by the end of 2013; we’ve taken several close trips to see how things work, so except for finding the water pump, it's not been too bad, I'm pretty good at backing up, preferably in the daylight. ;)

welcome, you've found the right place to get familiar with the process of rv-ing. These gals are great. What kind of rig did you get?
We love pictures so when you get the hang of posting pics would love to see your kees.

Sorry for your losses - that's a lot to absorb at once I'm sure. Welcome to the forum. We have all kinds of RV'ers with all kinds of rigs.

And did you find your water pump switch?

What type of rig do you have? We are always full of questions and love pictures. Sorry to hear of your fire. Maybe when you are out and about you can connect with some of us.

Welcome. Sorry for the sad loss of family. That must have been so very tough.

Going it alone (to me) is probably easier than with someone. I get to do it MY way! In other words, always look for the positive - it's there. I promise. Had my pity moments early on - learned that I really can be better off alone. Now, after all these years, not sure anyone would put up with me (or me them) but will never say never! And there always seems to be friends to stop and see most everywhere I travel. Now that you are here, even more so!

Hi and welcome! I was so sorry to hear of the fire and your losses. I am new to full timing. Am at my very first camp ground on my own with my Mom. I lost my husband in May of this year and this was always my dream, so going to pursue it. This is a great group of ladies and we will be more than happy to help you in any way we can. You should have a switch somewhere for your water pump. Maybe someone with a rig similar to yours will know right where it is.

Another big welcome to the forum. If you have a computer with you, you will never be alone. Just jump on the forum. Tell us where you are or where you're going and I'll bet one of us will be nearby for a quick GTG (get together). So sorry about your family and house. Our ladies have anywhere from small Casitas or Roadtreks to big Class A's. If your rig is bigger you will probably end up towing a small car for sightseeing. If you tow a trailer you will have your get around vehicle. With my 19' Roadtrek I just disconnect the electric and water and use my rig to sightsee. If its hot when I stop somewhere I turn on the generator and the AC for the dogs. As everyone says, we love pictures.

Welcome Pat..how tragic to lose it all in a fire especially your pets. I think you just have to ask the right person to help with the pump. Did it come with a book? We'll look forward to your post and your pictures. These gals are big on pictures and I was a slow learner in getting mine posted but I'm not that savvie with this puter stuff.

Welcome, Pat. I'm having fun trying to figure out what pymmint means. Peppermint Patty? Payment? (Those are familiar!) I'm glad you're here. Since I'm new, too, it's heartening to feel there's someone even newer than I! So water pumps have a switch, eh? humpph, something else I guess... :?

Sorry I haven't replied, pet sitting and dog walking keeps my pretty busy and I don't always get back to catch up. Thanks for the warm welcome and consolation for my family; I still have flash backs of them, I just hope they went quickly and didn’t suffer to much.
I have a 2012 Georgetown 378S Class A, I figured since I was using the money from the insurance I wasn’t going to replace, I needed something that would feel like home. I haven’t taken but one “far” trip, about 1.5 hours away, although with the rush hour traffic, it took about 3 hours. Mostly I go to the campground about 5 miles from home; I was hoping to go to Luray, VA this weekend, but I was asked to care for someone’s little girl on Sat, so I am going back to the near site. I have been able to get away at least once a month since June when I took the RV out for the official first time. I can only get away for Fri afternoon to Sun, since I need back to be with my other “family” on Monday mornings. However, I am expecting to go to Disney World in late January, so this will be our first real trip, besides the one we took when we brought the rv home, we stayed overnight at a Walmart, even though we were only about 3.5 hours from home. That is another whole story/adventure.

If you're planning FL in Jan, please check the gtg (get together) room - there is one going on down there about that time.
