Steps for Tyler

Postby Redwahine » Fri Oct 12, 2012 2:31 pm

I don't know about other dogs, but Tyler would not go up the pull out metal steps. He kept trying to jump up past them, but it is too high!! I helped him go up step by step, and then the same thing going down. He just didnt seem to see them. I thought to myself why does he have no trouble with the stairs in the house. I guessed that maybe he could not see them...maybe a three dimensional limitation or something. I grabbed a carpet runner and put it on the steps to make them look just like the house stairs. Voila, he goes up and down with not a second thought. :P

Great idea. My dogs did not go up or down the metal steps either, but as soon as I put the carpet covers on them, they go up and down real easily.

Maybe it is because they can see through them. Take some time to train him to wait at the top until you are on the ground. That was real important with my 3 doxies so I didn't land on my head when they rushed out. Good idea with the rug as long as it can't move.

I have the carpet wrap around on my step and that was all it took, even though it's the same color as the step.

Besides the visual being a problem for some dogs I think the slight give and movement of the steps effects others. I know that Herschel never wanted to use the electric steps even with carpeting covering it but he would use the sturdy crates and the large step I purchased after the electric steps died. Besides that the steps really weren't big enough for me to feel comfortable on them either (I have large feet) it was just another reason not to bother getting them fixed. But then I only had one step and you have multiples... :D

What a neat idea.
Nicky does not like/won't use the extra metal step I need to get in and out of RV. Might see if I can get a small piece of outdoor carpet to go over it for him.

Hi all, I use a ramp for my girls. they love it. for Precious (yes her name is Precious and of course she is) she is not the best jumper and has minor back leg issues. so the ramp works great for them. liked the steps also, did you see the ones called the pet loader (could be one word) they look pretty cool. Chris, That was a great idea! Otto is skiddish when it comes to noises and maybe the unsteadiness is true too.

I enjoyed meeting everyone at Potters Creek. Thought I would look in and look who I see!! Now I have met some of you. Was a great time.
