wasps hornets and dirt daubers HELP!

Postby HorizonSeeker » Fri Jun 15, 2012 10:13 am

Here's a first for me. I have dirt daubers under my rv. They don't bother me as a rule because they tend to leave people alone. But now I am seeing hornets and wasps. I'm sure they are drawn to the water provided by the a/c drip. How can I get rid of them or make them want to move on?

For the wasps you want to use the long stream spray can. Dirt daubers can cause problems. If this were mine I would get rid of wasps first then climb up under (or get someone) and knock out their nests. It might not hurt to use pressure washer directed up under your rv...I will be interested to hear other's posts as this could be a potential problem for any of us.

I've informed the eager young ranger that I have hornets. Let's let him crawl under to find their hidey hole

Not sure if works with hornets, but helps with wasps. I've already had a wasps nest in the range hood vent exhaust on Magic.

Wasp Trap. If you've spotted a few, try this DIY wasp trap: Simply make a simple syrup solution by boiling equal parts water or sugar together. Then, pour into an empty soda bottle. Place outdoors, near the nest and watch the wasps fall into the trap.

Hornets are vicious. They will chase you a long way. Best not to cross them. I have had wasps build nests in my mirrors. I just try not to disturb them until I'm going down the road and hope I lose them. There are screens that you can put over the furnace outside vents to keep insects out. I read somewhere that you aren't suppose to use the screens but don't remember where. If I ever decide to get my furnace checked out I will put the screens to keep the bugs out.

Put flea collars in places like the back of the fridge to keep them out.

thanks ladies for all the input. I have added a wasp/hornet trap and hope to see all those little buggers in there drowning very soon. Wish I could drive down the road and get rid of them but I am obligated to sit here till Labor Day. Will see how that trap works.
