New Shades and Like New Valances

Postby HorizonSeeker » Sat Jun 09, 2012 8:01 am

Well, it's been one week since I began my stint here as camp host on the Chattahoochee. I have 25 campsites in my area and 20 are full this morning. Made my morning rounds and handed out weekend agendas to the late arrivals (the local naturalist leds trail hikes and sets up crafts and games for the kids on weekends). The bathrooms are in great shape so no work there until late this afternoon. Maybe I will go hunt a geocache or two. In the meantime I've updated my blog with the progress I've made on the windows. It was a lot of stopping and starting in the beginning, but I now have the new shade up over the slide and I love it. I replaced the old broken day/night shade with a Levlor solar shade that is also room darkening. It knocks out all the bright sunlight (and heat) when my slide is facing the west like it was in Folkston and is once again here. That should help tremendously with cooling in the afternoon. Anyway, pictures are up on my blog so feel free to critique harshly. I can take it.

Very classy looking and I love the color....but then red is my favorite color! how did you get the red to curve so evenly? Or is that the decorators secret? LOL!

Looks good and I love the daybed. I replaced all the day/night shades with those dang cords that kept breaking with cordless cellular shades. I ordered them online and they were made specifically to fit my windows. I loved them and you can get them in room darkening also. Check out www.blindsaver.com.

Sharon, the curves were pretty easy. When I took the valance down I discovered that they were in 2 pieces. The old, outdated blue pattern was stapled onto a thin foam covered board that screwed into the main valance. Just had to take out a blue million screws to get that piece off, then carefully unstapled the ugly fabrice which became my pattern for the new red covering. The buttons were on the old fabric but didn't show up like they do on the red. They just screw into the thing board too. Then it just all goes back together opposite of how I took it apart.

Karen, I bought the Levor shades like on the site you mentioned only I bought them here in town at Lowes and they cut them to length for me. Using my veterans discount made the one shade $89. Only bad side is that they had to be mounted inside the valance and attached after I put the valance back up. Crazy standing on my head to screw them in place but I got it done.
