I sure hope they don't close the border before we get back into the states. Would they let us cross or not? We should be home, in Vegas a week from today.

This virus lives on surfaces at least 48 hours, so if your food delivery or package gets sneezed on........I do think more quarantines will happen. Look at Italy. As of tonight, the entire country is going into lockdown! I'm ready and we will simply stay home. It's going to be a rough ride ahead, but gas may be cheap!
Stay safe everyone

Annie, I agree with you and Velda. . Most of what I have posted so far have been recommendations and things to think about, from the CDC, etc, plus observing China and Italy. I don’t think we will get to a massive country wide shutdown like that, as we are a bigger, more spread out country. The biggest population areas are along the astern seaboard, and west coast. The remainder have large population areas scattered about in certain areas of their states, The northern border states, western mountain states, plains states have large areas of scant population with large cities here and there. Like MI has it’s biggest population in the southern part. What I think might happen is a city, a state or part of a state might go into lockdown depending. But we here in this country are so used to having everything we need, when we need it, that we don’t think it could be interrupted . Like I said, stores depend on shipments by carriers, this is includes online shippers like Amazon too. If the virus were to Affect an employee of the trucking or shipping firm, it could either cause a shutdown or shortage of personnel, causing delays. Or even a food or manufacturing plant. I’m kinda surprised that we are still getting strawberries from Mexico, when they have areas with the virus or lettuce, berries and other food stuff from CA. Probably isn’t a problem as yet, So it is wise to just make sure you are prepared. Don’t need enough to stock a bomb shelter, but enough to keep you going for what time is needed.

Another thing that was mentioned is a strain on the internet as employees go into a work from home mode or people turn to social media and other things rather than be around others. All this could slow down the system in your area and worldwide.

As to the stock market. The drop is being fueled by panicky investors and OPEC. The economy itself is fine right now might have a downturn as people hold off on on travel or big purchases etc., and maybe some manufacturing firms having to shut down for awhile, but will get moving again soon enough. We all know the drill with OPEC and their squabbling. Won’t last
long. Been there done that in he ast. On the other side of the coin, good for our pocketbooks at the pump. But look at China. How much stuff we get from there that’s not coming right now. Once they start cranking back up, they will be going gangbusters to catch up to all that stuff, so the global markets will recover.

So all we can do is monitor the situation, take precautions, get prepared and wait.

I usually don't use hand sanitizer but would like to have some in the truck just to wipe down when out and about and those wet wipes felt awfully low...

Shelia, if you can find some rubbing alcohol, at least 60% proof, you can mix it with aloe Vera gel and make your own. There are recipes online.

Or just put some watered-down bleach into an extra spray bottle. And use soap and water on your hands.

Businesses out here are already feeling the effects. Of course the cancellation of the international tennis tournament at the last minute put a lot of people out of work for that time, not to mention all the people who traveled out here from all over to attend it and spent all the money to get here and back. The restaurants are already feeling a hit with cancelled reservations. Coachella and Stagecoach have been rescheduled for October so those workers are left looking for work elsewhere. The snowbirds are leaving early, especially the Canadians. This area depends heavily on the snowbirds and tourists so that is a big loss as well. Could be a tough summer financially for a lot of us out here.

State of CALIFORNIA just banned all gatherings of 250 or more. I have a symphony ticket for later this month....don’t know whst they are going to do.
Lots of meetings are “up in the air”.
Because I am “vulnerable “ with my lung condition, I am listening to lots of advice. I am also using my brain and not panicking. No toilet paper buying!!!!

Oregon also banned gatherings of 250. I was heading up to Salem and Laura and I were going to the RV show. This morning I wondered if it qualified..........yup. Laura texted me that it was cancelled. Oh well So will just stay home as I was just there 2 weeks ago to see her new house.

Took my Motorhome to get dewinterized today. I am all set to go camping soon.

Mostly just staying home out here in the desert. Have you considered the mail you receive? Lots of people handle it.

Just a glimpse into how the response to the virus affects just one slice of the economy....the dog show world. The Vendor Mindy B referred to in the story is also an English Cocker breeder and owner and friend. (PS: her beds/products are indestructible and washable. Expensive but will last forever.)

We all must follow the advice of those we respect. I follow two real scientists that I have followed for several years. If I quote anything on here, it is from those two scientists. You each must do what you think is best for you. I am doing what is best for ME. I am washing my hands and drinking sips of water. Lyn
